    I ordered a headset for free shipping from this store on March 12 and received a text from Chris the next day, which was on a Monday. Cool. He said he had the headset ready for pick up, and I asked him to please deliver it instead because my work schedule conflicts with their store hours. He responded that it would take me a few days for me to receive the item, which was fine by me. Thursday rolls around, I didn't hear anything from the store, no email notification, text, or anything about the shipment. And my order status on their website has been on "processing" since I initially ordered the headset. So I called the store on Thursday afternoon and left them a voice mail asking for the status of the shipment. Then, a few minutes later, I got a call back from Chris, and he responded that he would mail the headset that day. Remember, on Monday, He had told me that I would receive my item in a few days. Whatever. I asked him if he could send me an email with the shipping info, and he said he would. Late, the same evening, I checked on the status of my order, and it still showed that the order was processing. No email. Next evening, same thing. In the meanwhile, they had already charged my card and the payment had fully cleared on Tuesday. I am not a fan of being told one thing, then they do another, or in this case, nothing at all, no follow through on what they said they would do. It's been a week, and my order is still "processing", and my payment had cleared 5 days ago. I chose this store because I wanted to support a local store, but moving forward, I cannot recommend this store based on my experience.

We recently needed troubleshooting for our home theater system and my husband made numerous attempts to reach someone at Empire for assistance. Calls were not returned and when he did manage to speak with someone about a service appointment, all he could get was "maybe we can stop by on Friday". Not exactly what we expected given the money we initially spent. Needless to say, no one showed up on Friday. We ended up finding another company that not only returned our calls, they sent a tech out a few days later who quickly resolved our issue. Then he went through our system and pointed out some optimizations that, honestly, should have been made during the installation. When you invest in Control4, any updates/changes have to be made through a dealer, so it's extra annoying when the dealer you purchased through no longer wants your business. We look forward to working with our NEW dealer to install additional home automation and home theater components.

    Not sure about the "No job too small" claim…read more We had a great initial experience with them when they upgraded our Wi-Fi gear and ran Cat6 Ethernet wiring through our house. Nice work, professional, great customer service. Then... not so much. I called them a couple of years later, following post-storm home renovations (thanks, Gulf Coast weather), to get Wi-Fi working again and re-run Ethernet cables. Over the next couple of weeks, when I'd call to follow up, Kimberley would tell me that "the GM is working on the proposal," but never got return calls. Ghosted. Finally hired an independent IT guy to make the fixes, as well as for some followup reconfigurations on the Wi-Fi gear.

My…read moreusual electrical company, Blue Electrical Contractors, was super busy so I decided to try Nextdoor based on their Yelp reviews. I had them take down an old outdoor ceiling fan from my back porch and install two new ceiling lights: one in the same spot as the ceiling fan and the other over the seating area to provide more light (see photo). The job cost $572 which I thought was a little bit high, but I wanted the work done. Two big issues with the job: First of all, the technician didn't install the round ceiling light insulation discs in each fixture (see photo) which is to my understanding required to meet Underwriters Laboratory requirements. (The insulation is used to reflect heat from incandescent bulbs.) He also cracked one of the plastic conduit hangers so that it was actually broke. I found the insulation thrown in the garbage and had to dig them back out and have the technician come back to put them in and replace the broken hanger. Also, wasn't really keen on the fact that he used plastic hangers vs. metal to hang the conduit. Another issue was that I wanted a multi-outlet switch in my garage changed out to a standard outlet; see photo. Nextdoor quoted me $187 to change it out. Caido, from Blue Electrical Contractors stopped by and I had him look at it. It was only a cover; Caido unscrewed one screw and the regular outlet was underneath. I could have done it had I known this. It took Caid 5 seconds to take the multi-outlet cover off and he didn't charge me a thing. Okay. This is ridiculous! $187??!! This shows me the technician from Nextdoor Electric didn't even know what he was quoting. I was speaking to Caido from Blue Electric about Nextdoor and how I will never use them again, but can't understand their great reviews. Caido was telling me that Nextdoor's reviews could be fake and/or purchased. I really am questioning these reviews. I will never have them do any work for me again. Go with Blue Electric the next time you need electrical work; I have used them for years.
