What is notable about this job is that we have a home that was built in 1918 so our house does not have straight lines to work by. He made it look as though we did...that is a hard task. He has also demoed and installed a new tile floor in our powder bath, also not level, and it turned out flawless. The powder bath also needed new glass installed and and additional piece of wood trim...the tricky part was he needed to make it blend into the existing trim that is 100 years old...he did it and it looks beautiful.

I sent photos and Matt said the cost would be $85 per hour for labor plus materials. He estimated it could take up to 4 hours for the job, which we thought was excessive, but agreed to hire him due to the great reviews. He thought alltogether it could run from $350-$400. Being a business owner myself, I assumed he was quoting on the high end but would actually charge me for what he said - labor and materials. The job done by his one man crew was excellent. I must say the quality was great which is why I am giving three stars. However, the guy was at our house for just under three hours. I got a bill for $400. We priced the materials at less than $40. When I asked for a breakdown of the bill, he said it was three hours of time at the home, plus an additional hour to go pick up the materials, which comes to $340 and then exactly $60 for materials. I understand the upcharge on materials since they potentially did not have a 2 x 4 and some plywood on hand (though I find that hard to believe) and had to go get them. But then to upcharge and add an additional hour just so he could charge us on the high end of his quote is poor business practice. I verified this with other companies. He should have explained ahead of time that there would be an automatic one hour charge to pick up materials. I would not use this company again simply because of their poor business practices.

They spent at least 1 1/2 hours setting up by getting the measurements exact setting up the area before they cut anything. After completing the cut they did a great job cleaning up the dust. They even put the cooktop in to make sure everything was right! Couldn't be happier! When the installer tore up the old flooring, he discovered that the OSB subfloor had water damage and needed to be replaced. The flooring company provided three referrals for the subfloor repair and we picked Degnan Construction. I called Degnan Construction and spoke to Seth. I explained the situation and Seth came by that same day with Colten to look at the damage. He and Colten took their time, even though this was going to be a small job, checking everything over and discussing how they would do the repair. Seth explained everything in detail to us. That same evening I received a detailed quote from Seth. Since it was a small job, the work would be done at an hourly rate and cost-plus for the materials. Just two days later Colten returned to perform the repair work. The first thing Colten did was lay down dropcloths from our front door to the bottom of our stairs. Then he covered our stairs with plastic carpet protector. Lastly, Colten hung a plastic sheet over the bathroom doorway as the door had been removed earlier by the flooring installer. This level of respect for our property was very impressive! In just over three hours, Colten had completed the work and cleaned everything up. The flooring installer returned the next day and was complimentary of Colten's repair work. We are very happy with the service we received and the repair that was done. Seth even emailed us to see how things were going, while he was on vacation! I highly recommend Degnan Construction. We will be considering them for some siding work later this year.
