It's essentially a big open room. There is lots of bench seating available. Two vending machines and charging areas for electronics. Multiple stall restrooms for women and men and parking to the rear for those of you being picked up by relatives. It's really easy to check in and wait by the door where you're leaving from and way less complicated than say leaving from NYC. There are really only two doors being used for boarding and deboarding the bus so you don't have to worry about last minute terminal changes. I've never been here during normal business hours so I can't attest to the snack area I've seen on site.

I've gone through this station several times. I feel it is cheap to catch the bus whenever I head to Philadelphia or New Jersey. The people here are not as friendly and service can be horrible. I was actually crazy enough to ride with all 4 of my kids by myself! It was not a pleasant ride. I prefer the mega bus just because the space capacity on the bus is limited compared to a double decker bus that the megabus provides. I do like that the greyhound has rewards and point system in which u can earn discount and cheaper bus fares. I also have to be cautious because I can get stuck with sketchy people that I don't trust sitting next to. But to get from state and across the country it can be cheaper than an airfare. It is with taking if necessary. But it's also good to be cautious. Not pleasant for families or with children. The area here is also really sketchy at night. Especially when they have some stores nearby like the nearby pawn shop that has steel reinforcements, so that they won't get burglarized worries me a bit. If it is necessary to save $$ then I say go for it.. It saves me gas and toll costs.

The location and orientation lends it to serve the eastern portion of downtown Norfolk. Accessing the station isn't difficult by foot, however, crossing a busy Saint Paul's boulevard will require you to employ your eyes and ears in a major way. The intersection of St. Paul's and East Plume Street isn't typical in layout as you have to avoid being hit by cars, buses (nearby bus transfer station) and yes, the Tide itself. I don't mean to make it sound like suicide alley or anything but clearly there's a bit of concern by the city as well to justify the security guard in place assisting pedestrians in navigating the area safely. There's a new court building rising up adjacent to the station and when you combine that with inattentive people glued to their smartphones it spells a recipe for potential disaster. I have visited these courts many a times but those stories are reserved for an entirely different social networking site altogether, namely Wordpress! Lol! But before I leave this paragraph I do want to clarify that I've been to COURT many times here...not the jail! Alright, so now that I've got that tidbit out of the way...lets see...what else? City Hall is at this station as well and I will usually park at Harbor Park and ride the train in to handle my affairs with the city. The less driving I have to do the better and I'm hoping that eventually the system will expand to a point where I can leave the swagger wagon parked like I used to when I lived in Washington DC. Be aware of your environment from all of the activity in the area and the freshly bailed inmate and you'll be fine. LOL! I'm just kidding! I'm just kidding! Er, I think....?

I had booked our trip to Wilmington DE with Greyhound a few weeks in advance. My scheduled departure time was November 4 at 11:55 am from the Hampton Road bus stop. While in route I got a email stating the bus was late and would not arrive until 12:20, that was ok not too bad. Our scheduled arrival was for 6:20pm. Once we reached the Hampton Road station it was not even open, so we had to wait outside until the bus was to show up. Finally, when the bus arrived the driver stated his shift was over and a new driver was supposed to be taking over. There was no driver at the station, so the driver had to call his office to find out where was the driver and they were not even aware that driver wasn't there. We are there just waiting while they try to find out what's going on. It's almost 1pm now and still no driver. Finally, they discover the driver was a no show and they had to find a replacement driver. We were informed it would take a few hours for a new driver. Luckily, I was able to book a trip with Amtrak but had to use money I really did not have. (side note that trip was delayed also but I did get to my destination, but we were late). I learned that they had to call in a driver who was in Raleigh NC and my original bus did not leave until 8pm. Unfortunately, I had to use my return trip to get back home and guess what that bus was 2 hours late. I have been trying to call Greyhound for any type of compensation or refund and when I talk to anyone, they say it has to go through the website account through emails. I have sent emails and all they say is I can't get any refunds. Never again will I use this company.

This is a long review. Scroll down to last paragraph for the TLDR version…read more I live on the edge of Virginia Beach and traveled from Norfolk to NYC, round trip. The fare now is $45 one way, $90 round trip. Upon entering the bus, it smelled mildly of urine, despite me sitting up front and of weed from another passenger who had gotten on. The bus was older and the shocks had cleared given up the ghost years ago. Because this is a Chinese line, this company caters to Chinese speakers or people looking for a cheap and reliable way to get back and forth. Customer service and cleanliness are not high on the company's priority list. There is a bathroom on the bus and it may or may not be clean or have toilet paper. I recommend you either bring you own supplies or use the bathroom in the depot before leaving. Get here 30 minutes early as you'll want to make sure you're on the bus first to get a seat or if you're traveling with someone and want to sit in the seats your assigned. Otherwise, the company does not enforce the rules. And riders are either ignorant or just don't care. It's a free for all with seats and this type of clientale is neither understanding, considerate or stable. Don't expect the company or other passangers to be accommodating; but the good news is no one will bother you if you leave them alone. Friendly reminder: print out the tickets before hand. There is a $1 charge if the depot has to print for you. There are chargers and usually free WiFi but don't rely to on the latter every time. Every bus is different. The seats are small and the arm handles arent adjustable. Be prepared to be uncomfortable if you are larger (either tall or heavy set). Bring the neck pillow, you'll want it for a decent night's sleep if traveling at night. This is a barebones ride but thankfully the driver will outpace the GPS, usually. My trip from Norfork to NYC arrived an hour early. I took the midnight trip leaving at 12:35am; we stopped once in Maryland to pick up a passenger and we still arrived an hour early, at 6:25am. No traffic and the driver sped. (The New York stop is 59 Canal Street, nearest metro is F Line). The trip back to Norfolk from NYC was similar. I took a mid afternoon bus and even stopping once for a 15 minute bathroom/food break, we made it in under 7 hours. (I also traveled on early Saturday morning, returning Sunday afternoon. Keep in mind, if you take a midnight trip, the bus will not stop for food, only pick ups. Day trips there is 1 stop for food/restroom usually at a gas station. There may be passenger stops). Should you use this service, set expectations extremely low. I would also try not eating or drinking in excess to avoid having to use the restrooms on the bus. Bring light snacks if necessary. There are also some snacks available for a nominal purchase in both depos. If you're sensitive to smells, motion sickness or need structure and reliability, do not book this company. This service is best for those who are flexible, value economy and can fend for themselves, ie be an asshole if necessary. As for traveling with children, it can be done and many people do. I have no recommendations either way. Only you know what your child can handle AND what you as their parent can deal with yourself. I sat by kids both times and they were well behaved. But I like kids and have children myself. I do think you should consider hygiene and prepare in advance in terms of hand washing, food, entertainment and bathroom breaks. Very young children may be ok. The bathroom is incredibly small, I would not count on changing a diaper there (but I've seen moms and dads do the miraculously when pushed to the brink of despair. However you would have enough space to do it if you had both seats to yourself on one side of the aisle). 2 stars solid. One for being cheap, the other for being expedient. Lost one star for not enforcing order on the bus, one star for being unreliably clean and the last one for unreliable customer service/services offered on the bus. There are other lines that are $10-20 cheaper and I would recommend those lines to unseasoned travelers or travelers needed and expecting higher accommodations.

This was an adventure for sure. First of all, on the basis of price, it is hard to beat $35 from…read moreNYC to Norfolk for a daytime run. Secondly, make sure your expectations are reasonable; then you should be ok. I would do it all over again because it was so fast and cheap. The skinny...the 9:30 bus to Norfolk left at 9:20. Yes, it left ten minutes early, and fortunately, I had arrived twenty minutes early. This meant that the first fifteen minutes of our trip consisted of the driver crawling around the side streets of Chinatown while some unlucky passengers caught up to the bus and were allowed to board. It was only fair. We made one stop for ten minutes the entire seven hours, and that was somewhere in New Jersey. Nearly everyone seemed to know the routine and disembarked to use a clean bathroom. I was seated near the front of the bus, and was unsure whether the bus bathroom was closed or it was just that passengers were highly discouraged from using it during the journey. (I heard both versions during the trip.) I chose to "hold it." Yes, it was an older bus and not the cleanest one I have ever been on, but it rapidly took me from A to B, and that is all that really mattered to me. We arrived in Norfolk ahead of schedule at 4:20 PM, and it was all good. I would not hesitate to go with New Everyday in the future.

My Last Experience June28…read moreWow!! Newport News Bus Transportations where is the communication! I'm completely utterly disgusted and upset with the piss poor service and unknowingly unknowledgeable staff! Throw the whole service away and start from scratch! For starters the heat outside today is on one!!! It was very hot! Now when logging on to Google Maps GPS I'm given a departure time. Where and how are people to know that the bus just isn't coming?! It's a week day in between the hours of 9a -5p where is the bus? I look up at the number listed on the bus sign and figured okay this is the number to call to see what's going on. After being transferred 4 times I was told to leave a voice message in hopes that someone will get back with me. We need to do better!! It's such an unpleasant feeling when someone in authority can help but does nothing. After standing in the heat for almost 2hours here comes a bus. When getting on the bus I begin sharing my concerns and the driver cuts me off and says man it's only me and Mike today, we'll get to the stop when we get there! Woah woah woah! Where am I?! Did this gentleman just very rudely cut me off? Again where am I? I blacked out for a moment. Blacking back in now I'm sitting down on the bus. My tank top and shorts are soaked and my money is spent. Now I'm sure the driver didn't mean to offend me but that's exactly what he did. Mind you throughout the rest of the ride the driver was making some very risky driving patterns. I took a few pictures while other vehicles are landing on their brakes and horns. This shall be my last bus ride in Newport News, Virginia. Unprofessional, unknowledgeable, and distasteful staff with an unapologetic, piss poor of a phone operating service system. Terrible experience today! Terrible! After approaching the Newport News bus station center I go to the teller window and speak with Miss Ashley. Miss Ashley look as if she was doing her chemistry homework; I had to get her attention twice. After getting Miss Ashley's attention I asked her for a phone number to call and complain as well as her supervisors email. Miss Ashley informed me that she was unable to give me anything leading to her supervisors information without her supervisors permission. I find this to be a huge problem. So from having such a horrible experience with the actual bus driver to having a even worse unpleasant experience with the bus stations staff. I've come to realization that this Newport News bus station center is very piss poor it is nothing higher than a one out of five stars simply because they do provide the transportation, just not when they say or when you need it! Inside the station center: Heated facility. There is a self service mach here that operates 24/7; as well as a desk that functions Monday - Friday (I believe between 9am-5pm) but don't hold me to the times. There are both a male and female restrooms here which is pretty cool being that the size of this building isn't large at all. There happens to be two drink vending machines and on snack machine!

The driver was nice enough, though, and we arrived quicker than I thought. The second bus from NYC smelled better, and the seats were better.... but it was still somehow a rotten experience. We stopped somewhere in Jersey, because they apparently don't do that ahead of time, which took roughly half an hour that was unplanned and we were not informed about. Throughout the drive, the driver was on his cell phone yelling very, very, very loudly in Chinese. Finally, I would be remiss to not mention the heat on the bus was SO hot. Coming from cold New York, where people dress accordingly, I was ill prepared for mid-summer heat in Florida provided by Rockledge bus. Our group ended up taking off as many layers as we could, and it was still too darn hot and the air unfortunately didn't work. People who get motion sick, especially with heat, this would be your worst nightmare. The service was cheap. I think we paid roughly $100 for RT tickets for two, but I'll spring for a better service provider next time.
