Traveled on 1/7/17 during a snowstorm from Boston to Hartford. There was a 30-minute "stop" in Worcester. The driver left with a female passenger for a "lunch break". WTH? I only took this over Concord Coach as it fit my schedule better. Next time I'm going to plan better to avoid taking this bus at all costs. The bus was clean and comfortable. There were numerous stops, unlike Concord. I booked on-line. There is a 20 or 25 dollar penalty to switch your ticket, even if you'd just booked it. Now, THAT is customer service! read more

Doesnt deserve 1 star! Rude clerk, ignored a black gentleman waiting patiently while he was on a personal phone call. I could hear he was on a personal call and the black gentleman waving for me to go ahead of him. I asked the guy to get off off the phone as customers needed his help. Instead of apologizing he gets pissed. Claims he is the only station in Maine, a franchise. Rude, ignorant and doesnt deserve to represent Greyhound. Take Concord! They are great and have super customer service. FYI there are 5 stations in Maine in the Portland area, two on Congress St. so, do not be surprised when someone asks a question about an arriving bus. read more

Narrow seats, shitty slow wifi full of ads, but worst of all the drivers take long unnecessary breaks which make you miss your connection. If you have a connecting bus, count on Greyhound to make you miss it. Every single time I'be been routed through New York Port Authority, I've missed my connecting bus. Once might be an accident, twice might be a coincidence, but three or more times is a trend. I've slept on the concrete floor of Port Authority too many times. Won't somebody please give them the competition to put them out of business? read more

I am currently on a bus from Boston to Portland, ME. The bus smells like deadfish, so I am taking a two hour and ten minute ride with the entire bus smelling like dead and rotting fish. Additionally, someone started smoking, probably in the bathroom. There was an argument between two people. I think it was because the guy wouldn't use headphones to listen to music. Perhaps the bus driver should include this in his opening announcements. I would also suggest an air freshener of some kind. I know we didn't pay a lot for these tickets, but try to have consideration for customers. read more

A seriously unethical and dishonest company - avoid if at all possible! Just for starters, this place won't even answer their phone. Try calling: (207) 772-6587. I was there and saw the guy routinely ignore the phone. But here is my terrible experience: I was traveling during a storm. Naturally I wondered if the bus might be delayed or cancelled. Greyhound can't do anything about the weather. But I DO expect them to know where the bus is and whether it will be coming, and an approximate time when. Instead, the man working here claimed he had "no way" to find out where the bus was. Another passenger and I waited 3 hours but it never came, nor did we ever find out what the status was. The next day, I called and heard the bus had been "2 hours late". When I said I had waited 3 hours, the guy said, "You did?!?" I also asked the man at the station where I was traveling to what time the bus got in, if ever. "Right on time." I think Greyhound would have to pay if the bus simply didn't ever run, so instead they claim it was there, even though it wasn't. If it were merely delayed, I'd be ok with that. But it's the changing stories that shows something fishy is going on. Dishonest, incompetent people don't deserve anybody's business. Take one of the other bus companies. This company is obviously unethical and should not be in business for long. When they are gone, they will have only themselves to blame. read more

I was sorry to see the bad reviews. Although the bus was smelly it was not the issue of the bus but of the people traveling on the bus. Once the bus got rolling and the air kicked in it got much better. I must say it is not perfect but for the price it is. I use a little wifi and yes it is slow but this is a good time for me to catch up on reading and disconnecting for a while. Refreshing actually. The stations were good, clean. Would be nice to have more seating there. read more

i can't believe more people have not come here to talk about how unpleasant Greyhound is. their prices are absurdly high, they are always poorly organized (especially around the holidays), their buses take longer to get places than any other bus line, and this location is pretty dumpy. i'm not complaining about the staff or drivers... they are often lukewarm and sometimes even unpleasant, but not the point of my review. Greyhound as a company, tho, is just horrible. additionally, their corporate-run customer service is a disaster. if you have a problem (which you will at some point if you travel Greyhound more than once) try to resolve it at the station because you will *never* get a worthwhile response from the phone number they give you and the email sends the same, generic form letter no matter your problem. so find another way to travel. Concord bus lines just down the road is cheaper, faster, and far more pleasant. if you're going further south than Boston, take a Chinatown or Mega bus. read more

I consider myself a pretty understanding person, but being over two hours late to your stop is ridiculous. As I was waiting for the bus, another passenger was telling me that Greyhound is understaffed in Boston so they are finding drivers from out of state to fill the needed spots. I get that's a difficult task, especially if the company is understaffed. But if you are going to get a driver, at least try to find one who knows the route, or will take the time to learn it before offering to do it. If I wanted to drive in circles, yes, about seven of them now, I would have gone on a merry-go-round. On top of this dizzy and delayed disaster, my trip is being delayed even further as the driver decided he needed a smoke break. If you're on schedule, taking a break is fine by me. It doesn't take long to have a quick smoke... but it's already two hours late! Bus smells like cigarettes now and my headache from spinning in circles is just getting worse. read more

The customer service counter employs a rude gentleman in the morning. There is a dog with him that I assume is a service dog given this man's behavior. He was condescending to myself, my adult daughter, and two college age men in the 45 minutes we waited for her bus. Two times he told us her bags were going to be $35 and $25 extra dollars on top of the bus ticket. When we explained that we had read all of the details regarding bags online when the ticket was purchased, he claimed that he was personally going to wave those fees. A little extra pocket money? Who knows. My suggestion to anyone using Greyhound out of Portland, Maine would be to read all of the small print on your ticket purchase. The dog was not threatening to me because I like dogs, and he was small. But anyone who is afraid of being greeted at the door by a barking dog would be upset. Altogether a very unwelcoming experience. I would suggest trying the other bus service or train before using the Portland Greyhound station. read more

Had a very bad experience riding Greyhound during the Pandemic .Everyone was squished on to the bus like sardines yet the first two rows were blocked off so noone sits near the driver .The driver's safety is very important however he had a glass box surrounding him completely .It would have been more safe for everyone to spread out a bit but they sold every seat avl. while blocking off first two rows closest to driver who was surrounded by a glass box!!!!Customers were told mandatory mask policy but it was not enforced .One gentleman came on and off the bus several times maskless.No ventilation.I am very reasonable and understanding but I will not be riding greyhound again .I told them I just could not take the trip back with them because the trip there was so bad and they will not refund me.The man inside of the Portland,Maine location was very nice .The bus driver made a very rude comment referring to a woman who was waiting for the bus , as a "heavy load " to one of his colleagues and he laughed, it felt very discriminatory and I was glad the woman did not hear it.This is unacceptable and the professionalism of Greyhound is the real joke. read more

I am writing to let you know how much I appreciate the outstanding customer service that your staff provided last week. After getting the run around from several extremely poor and unhelpful Greyhound employees at the main customer service number and at the Hartford station and being on hold for more than an hour I came across Mac, at the Portland Station. I cannot say enough, Mac was very attentive and helpful, he was very knowledgeable and genuinely interested in helping me and my Son. Mac's customer service went beyond the call of duty. He was thoughtful, always courteous and accommodating. This was so much appreciated. read more

I recently used Greyhound Bus Lines for an excursion from Portland, ME to New York City and I was happy that I did not let the previous poor reviews deter me from this decision. The Greyhound Bus line offered a cost effective option to get me to and from my location. Even though my nostrils were not burning with the smell of bleach as I entered the bus, it was far from being dirty. The staff was kind, the seats were an adequate size, and the fellow bus passengers were respectful. The only qualm I have for this bus line is the wifi connectivity, but for the price I feel that I can compromise with a few shortcomings. As a twenty-something on a spur of the moment weekend trip, I am pleased with the service Greyhound provided and I would not hesitate to book future trips with this company. read more

recently i read a review that was not complimentary to this station....i have been through this station many times and not matter which agent is at the counter (even the man that was mentioned with the small dog) every time a person arrives they are greeted with courtesy ....sometimes a person shows very little respect for the rules to travel with Greyhound and it is explained to them carefully....but they choose not to listen and react to get a special consideration by being loud and obnoxious...usually it is well handled....this station is very clean (always)....and courteous to those that are also respectful...i like this station read more

Prices high, never on time, website not user friendly, stations dirty, service pretty bad, customer service non existent and busses old -air conditioning broken on latest trip which I had to take because it was the only choice. I had an early morning trip from Portland to Boston and the man behind the counter was both friendly and very helpful. I noticed he made sure to give each customer all the necessary help and information they needed. My bag happened to be overweight and so he let me take some items out and re-weigh it. I was very pleased with him as well as with the bus driver, who was also very personable and helpful. This was a good experience! read more

As a college student who does not live within a commutable distance of campus, I have had nothing but a good experience when riding with Greyhound. The evening bus headed north out of Boston does tend to be late, however considering it is departing Boston in the afternoon rush hour I can't put any blame on them. I always buy the tickets online getting the web fare which is significantly cheaper. Once I arrive I just check in at the desk, and I'm on my way. read more
