Awful, awful experience. Confusing process, then they make you wait in lines only to tell you theres a delay...then another...then another, until its been 2 hrs since you were supposed to leave for what should be a 2 hr ride. Cramped seating and I know its not in their control but small seats do not help when people cannot respect personal space, which was my experience. Also the smell on the bus was terrible, the bathroom reeked and perforated throughout the bus. Also in the middle of the ride someone went to the bathroom and smoked a cigarrette....A CIGARETTE....making the whole bus smell like cigarrettes with little to no ventilation. The only positives of this trip was that it was air conditoned and the bus driver did seem nice. But im sorry it is not worth it this was awful. Save yourself and do not take greyhound. read more

Greyhound Bus left me stranded in Newark. The bus left almost 10 minutes early without even opening door or announcing anything, leaving me and other ticketed passengers waiting at the bus stop and stranded overnight in Newark. We didn't even know it was my bus since it was marked "St Louis, Missouri" and I was headed to South Jersey. Terrible customer service from driver, at station, and on the phone. They refused to issue a refund or replace the ticket. Never use Greyhound. Worst customer service ever. Greyhound Lines sucks! read more

This is terrible bus line. They offer big spaces and Wifi.When I got on the bus the space was very minimal and their was no wifi service.The seats in the bus were ripped.On top of that I called costumer service to give a review on how terrible their service was and the man on costumer service hung up on me.This is a terrible Source of bus transportation on do not recommend this to anyone. read more

Greyhound Newark Penn to Boston: Oct 13, 2014 - Horrible experience with the Operator. Newark to NYC, and then from NYC to Boston (Bus No. 86054 departure from Newark at 3.50 pm). The company must know who is this driver (Ms. Demus, who drove from Philadelphia to New York on this day). Do NOT take Greyhound please!! Employees of the kind I met today, must not be employed, and must be reprimanded for their total lack of professionalism (politely said, their rude and arrogant behavior). Hi Alex P. (The Grey Hound Manager listed at the end of these reviews)!, Get this message to your decision-makers, and have this driver removed from operating the bus. I see no good reviews for Newark stop. I wonder who is really reading this to make improvements to the service. I dropped off my college senior with a confirmed seat and a ticket in her hand. I saw the driver not letting her on the Bus. I asked for the reason-- the Female African-American driver (why I mentioned the race and gender? Perhaps to identify the driver further, if the name given to me by the ticket agent at the Newark window, is inaccurate, and therefore I do not wish to discredit any other person named Ms. Demus associated with Greyhound, just in case) gave me a reason that my daughter had an attitude. Whereas I saw my daughter crying, because this woman held the door by her feet, and would not let her on the bus, even though she was there along with other passengers, and her luggage was already loaded by the Greyhound staff. This driver went back to the ticket counter, had her luggage taken off the bus by the staff, and did not listen to me at all. Two NJ transit cops seeing this whole incident tried to stop her, and yet she shut the door and took off. Now, I was stuck there with no other option but to get my daughter to NYC somehow, because this bus makes a stop in NYC, on its way to Boston. The cops took information from us, being very helpful in trying to get the matter resolved. However, with this experience, I will not suggest anyone taking Greyhound, at least not from Newark-NYC area from where a large college bound passengers travel. With whole lotta stress of traveling by Bus/public transit, and the no-fun ride on a busy I-95 corridor, the last thing you want traveling back-and-forth from home to your University, is to get mistreated by someone who is illiterate (and have no desire to be some body, anytime in his/her life), and does not empathize with you, the passenger/customer, who should be their first priority. The cops were astonished to observe her behavior as well, as they watched the incidence and yet could not stop her to at least speak with her for what went in her head. They did their fact finding themselves with the ticket agent, and came back with nothing against me nor my daughter, and simply left watching the whole episode. What I learned from this incidence though, according to the NJ Transit cops, a driver can refuse to let any passenger on the bus (no questions asked). I do not know how true it is... It seems to be the case, as this woman was so confident and adamant about her decision. She totally ignored my calm demeanor, when I tried to request and reason with her explaining that she has her confirmed seat, and the ticket in her hand, plus the rush to catch the bus may have presented an anxiety to get on the bus, so as not to miss it. If it took her a few seconds extra to get her photo ID, there was no reason for the driver to be impatient or rude. The whole incident took a good 7-8 minutes. I was terribly disappointed seeing that my kid has used Greyhound for almost 4 years, but never had met a driver like this one. If you have similar experience(s), do not let it go. You are the customer, and if you follow the rules, no one should have the right to jerk you around. You know the power of you, and the social media such as Yelp, Trip Advisor sites to get the message out. I am in the process to collect more data, and file a formal complaint, as this incidence is also been reported to the NJ transit Police. Let's face it, the reputation of this company couldn't get any lower so when I was told the antique item I purchased on eBay was being shipped by Greyhound my expectations were in check, as in low, even still I can say I was surprised out how much lower I should actually take down my expectations. Its hard to actually put your expectation in the number scale into the negatives. So like the rating here on yelp is 0 to 5 stars....they never considered a company like Greyhound, we need to go down at least to a negative 2. The 2 is the two times I called Greyhound giving them my name to check on my package being told they had no record, the negative of course is that they were charging me 5 dollars a day for storage while denying possession of my item. I now owe Greyhound $20 because my package was shipped by an inept shipper I engaged b eBay who with their equally negative intellect felt that Greyhound (as in cheap) would be the best option for shipping my purchase. I would pay Greyhound 100 times my storage fee to shut down their lame shipping business all together. The CEO of this company should be fired. read more

The two stars I'm giving is solely due to the fact I did get to my destination and back home safely. Also the workers at both terminals were friendly and helpful. My bus was supposed to leave Newark at 825pm and it arrived an hour late with no explanation. We arrived to Norfolk VA over two hours late so my ride was just sitting and waiting all that time. I had my baby with me and the ride is long enough without adding all that extra time. One of the things that bothered me the most was the bus we got on. It had no Greyhound sign and it was just a plain white bus and was old. I didn't know if it was our bus or not. I was upset about this because I know the new buses are more comfortable and a bit cleaner. I don't know if Greyhound contracts another bus company to do some trips for them. I had the big old white bus going to Norfolk and to my displeasure it was waiting for me to go back to Newark. Like I said I did get to both destinations safely so that's more important. read more

My experience was in California, but from reading the reviews, I think that Greyhound is similar in most states. I was going up to San Francisco from the Central Coast of California with my partner, and I figured that between driving (expensive parking in SF!), taking Amtrak (train, but with two thruway bus connections), and taking Greyhound, the last option was reasonably priced and direct. I ordered two tickets online ($120 return, using the advance purchase discount). We left about 20 minutes late, which was irritating especially since we had rushed to get to the station on time, but I decided I could live with it. We made the many scheduled stops, which was fine, except that we got less than 20 minutes at one stop where we were supposed to have 40 (I'll assume because the bus was running late). Each time we got off to use a station bathroom (I didn't risk the one on the bus), it was like being in a horror movie. Push your way through a cage door, go upstairs. Dark, filthy bathroom with strange people walking back and forth, and broken, filthy sink. Then getting back on the bus, along with several people who appeared to be inmates (I say so because not only did they look scary, but there were two prison guards nearby watching). We tried not to leave anything on the bus during the stops, for fear it would get stolen (so much for trying to save a seat). I have been in many gritty cities, and do not have snobbish attitudes about public transit normally, but this was entirely different. We ended up getting to San Francisco about on time, surprisingly, although only after one of the most nauseating bus rides I've ever experienced (constant hard braking, and then there was Highway 17 near Santa Cruz...). On the way back, we arrived at the San Francisco bus terminal, and they said we did not have a valid return ticket for my partner. I realized that I'd lost the receipt portion, although the ticket (with confirmation number to show that I'd bought the ticket, with a credit card I had with me) portion was there. Rather than check my ID, credit card, and reservation, they made me by another ticket (with a discount, granted - how nice to offer that on a ticket I'd already paid for). So I bought it (another $35), and we were on our way back. They said that I could show everything to a manager at the station at home, and ask for a refund there. Of course, after another nauseating ride (over 7 hours for a trip that takes 4 hours driving - even the train plus two bus connections takes just a bit longer at 8 hours, which would have been more pleasant), we got back home and the station was closed. I e-mailed Greyhound and got no response. I went to the station several days later, and had no luck getting a refund, or even an apology (the closest was that bus drivers and station attendants don't have time to check ID or reservations - even though all the information was there, and it definitely took longer for me to buy another ticket from them). I will definitely not be riding Greyhound again. Amtrak, despite frequent delays and less-than-direct routes with thruway buses (Amtrak California), is a much better option (not much more expensive, and actually cheaper if you can get your hands on a coupon). Much safer and more comfortable too - I especially recommend the Pacific Surfliner if you're in California. read more

I took this service to new york to get a transfer, Bus line #530 was supposed to arrive at 5:25 pm,I asked but they gave me poor indications,almost 20 mins later they led me to another bus around 5:45 pm, bus #93 or 933 (I just recall exactly #9 on it,but the date was "June 11th Thursday 2010 at around 5:45 pm );Nevertheless,the driver in this line was really Cocky,unfriendly and unhelpful,not just with me but with others too,greyhound just hire Nasty drivers as I can tell,...never use this service! read more
