This Vet should not be practicing medicine. He doesn't even deserve a 1-star rating! My experience…read moreat this clinic was extremely upsetting. I left feeling that my pet didn't receive the compassion or empathy I expect from a veterinary professional, and that the communication I received came across as rude and dismissive in an already stressful situation. What concerned me most was his lack of accountability when the care he provided didn't align with what my pet needed, and the situation ultimately got worse rather than better. After reading other reviews, I realized my experience wasn't unique, which confirmed my decision to seek care elsewhere. I encourage other pet owners to consider alternative clinics so their animals can receive the level of care and compassion they deserve.

I do not recommend Erik Haukaas or the Bay Area Animal Hospital…read more I had an extremely disappointing experience at this veterinary clinic. Not only did my pets not receive their necessary rabies shots, a legally required vaccination for their safety and the safety of others but the entire appointment was mishandled and rushed. On top of that, the vet was rude and dismissive, which wasn't the first time I experienced this. Previously, when I brought in one of my cats for neutering, he acted the same way, and at the time I was too intimidated to speak up. It's unacceptable to treat clients this way, especially when it involves the health and safety of animals. I was t planning on retiring after this experience anyways but the icing on the cake were the reviews I saw on Google! People are saying he abuses animals and there have been instances where he didn't take the proper course of care for animals and it ended with them dying. I will not be returning and I definitely don't recommend this place to anyone if you want to have a respectful and animal loving veterinarian.

My partner and I have been clients of North Country Veterinary Clinic since we rescued our first…read morefur-daughter a little more than two years ago. We continued with them when we rescued our second fur-daughter almost a year after the first. On a Sunday evening our youngest did not come out for supper and when we found her she had defecated on the floor, could not stand, had a temperature of 95.8, and the tips of her ears were cold. We immediately called North Country's Emergency line and left a voicemail with all the information asking for help when they did not answer the first time. After nearly ten unanswered calls we called the Willow Animal Hospital in Ashland. After repeating all the information and telling Dr. Meyer we could not reach our veterinarian he said, "We are trying not to take new clients, you should keep trying your local vet." I had to beg and reassure him that we would not be coming back after tonight to try and become new clients. It was an emergency situation and our baby needed help. When we arrived, he did not put down his cellphone or stand from his desk. Instead, he said he was finishing dealing with another emergency. When we finally get into the exam room and unwrap her blanket, she now had blood and lose stool coming from her rectum. Rather than immediately assessing her he sat down to fill out paperwork. Even though there was nothing recent that she had gotten into that could have brought this on he continued that they send out toxicology test and it wouldn't be worth it by the time they got them back. He did not exam the stool we brought with us from the floor, or the mixture in her blanket. He did not test blood or conduct x-rays. He said he could put her on fluids to help it out of her system, but they are not a 24-hour clinic so she would be alone if she stayed. We decided to take her home after he had her on fluids. When she went into the back her circulation was so poor, they could not find a single vein that would take. We went back and being determined to save her tried to give her fluids via syringe, which she was too weak to take. It was then that he didn't even put our baby to sleep before he euthanized her. When my partner was paying the bill, he said "Its good you are paying for this now, rather than waiting." When we came home, I conducted after life cares on our baby to remove all the blood, glued her eyes shut so she would be at peace, wrapped her in her favorite blanket with her favorite stuffed toy, and left a message about cremation services with North Country. When they opened the next morning, we still had not received a call about our voicemail on the emergency phone line. Her name was Chanel not Channel (as our vet calls her). She lived on the streets of Texas and raised a litter from a larger breed on the streets until they were brought to a kill shelter with a 32% survival rate. Her pups were ripped from her to be adopted out while she was put in line to be euthanized before she was saved by Holster Rescue and made her way here to us. She was a 4.5-year-old Chihuahua mix and she should not be sitting on my shelf in a box. I would not send my worst enemy to either of these veterinarians. Dr. Meyer was callous in every way imaginable and North Country was not there when we needed them most.

I brought my large breed dog in with an ear infection and the way he treated me, you would think I was running doggy fight club. Told me what a shitty pet owner I am. Because my dog had an infection. Totally common with her large floppy eared breed. But he told me that's bologna. His word. I am not a person who usually takes this from anyone but I was shell shocked at his behavior. I will never bring my animals back to this jerk. Also my dog is very scared at the vet so I brought a friend to help, another point he made about what a bad owner I am.

I called last week as soon as the irritation started. They could only get me in today. I treated it as well as I could with over the counter medication. It is inflamed and is hurting him. I explained this to the nurse. The vet/owner came in no conversation said hold his head he grabbed my dogs tail forcefully and pulled it. My dog whined, yelped and growled while I held his head. The vet jumped back and said well I'm done here. I said what do you mean? He preceded to tell me how untrained my dog is and when I tried to say that he was in pain. He cut me off and said he is untrained and 99% of dogs would let him examine, shave and scrape the wound. He said if I didn't like it I could leave!! I was at a loss for words. I tried to say he is a super nice dog, well behaved and friendly. He's in pain. The vet disagreed said he's our property so it's our fault he isn't trained properly. He said I could drop him off and they would sedate him. But that's it. He said I don't have time for this. He was so unprofessional, I couldn't believe it. He continued on until my teenage daughter and I were in tears. My daughter wanted to leave. The vet said you want antibiotics or not? I said I need something. My dog is sick. I brought him in for help. He said I'll get you antibiotics or you can leave. My daughter was so upset she went to the car. I paid $111 for antibiotics and to be treated terribly but truly if I could have left and got antibiotics elsewhere, I would have. I have heard horror stories about this vet. I have friends that are personal friends with this man. Raved about him. So I put caution to the wind giving him a chance. Never again. I will tell everyone that will listen not to take their pets to this man.

I told them it was about a year and half since her last rabies vax. We had gotten her from a human society near our home. They called them and since they were closed was unable to confirm that she was current on her vaccine status. The vet refused to see her unless we let them vaccinate her again. My argument was that her body was already fighting an infection and giving her a dose of vaccine unnecessarily was only going to compromise her immune system further. He didn't care and refused to see her. So basically the only thing important to them is vaccines. The health of the dog wasn't any concern to them. We left without my dog being seen. Luckily I have a backround of natural healing. We went to a health store got what I needed and proceeded to care for her myself. I do not recommend them and will never ask for their help again.
