However, when we went to pick our dogs up yesterday we found that blue ribbon had blocked the driveway to the kennel meaning we could no longer drive up there and load the dogs in the car safely. Instead, we had to drag their cages across a parking lot that has a busy freeway just a few yards away. The Blue ribbon employee told me emphatically "I won't help you load your dogs". This despite the fact that my wife and I are both obviously handicapped and I had my arm in a sling. When we finally got the dogs loaded, they were frightened and I was shaking from the stress. This was totally mishandled on their part and the employee that did it should not have a job there. I don't trust Blue ribbon with my dogs anymore, if they employ people like this and don't discipline them then they'll also abuse my dogs. I love my dogs too much to put them in this kind of a place and I hope you do too.

We heard about R&R and decided to give it a try for boarding. The company was flexible with drop-off times (due to a typical Duluth snowstorm), saving us a huge headache. At pick-up, Sarah, a trainer, was able to tell us how our two dogs did, and even what their personalities were like in the kennel. This is HUGE for us because we have tried so many kennels where the workers forget our dogs' names or have very minimal interactions with them. When we were leaving, our dog with separation anxiety (who normally runs right out of boarding facilities), rubbed up against Sarah to say "bye". The focus is on improving the owner's relationship and skills rather than saying its the dog who has an issue. Utilizes positive reinforcement through both good treats and verbal cues (I really had to work on being more exciting so I became a high value reward). I learned a lot and continue to recommend Diane and Jim to anybody who has a new dog in their household. Some tricks are taught as a game so you and your dog are excited to do them. I still regularly play the 'come touch' game with my bc and she thinks it's the best. I think it's great because I never have to be nervous that she wont come when called we're at the dog park or on a hike. It is a bit remote, so be sure you are willing to commit to the drive before registering. I can vouch that it's worth the drive!

I always worry with dog sitters and leaving her at home or someone else's home that she could get out and get lost or get hurt, but I know she is safe at Canal Bark and is in good hands!! I called last week as soon as the irritation started. They could only get me in today. I treated it as well as I could with over the counter medication. It is inflamed and is hurting him. I explained this to the nurse. The vet/owner came in no conversation said hold his head he grabbed my dogs tail forcefully and pulled it. My dog whined, yelped and growled while I held his head. The vet jumped back and said well I'm done here. I said what do you mean? He preceded to tell me how untrained my dog is and when I tried to say that he was in pain. He cut me off and said he is untrained and 99% of dogs would let him examine, shave and scrape the wound. He said if I didn't like it I could leave!! I was at a loss for words. I tried to say he is a super nice dog, well behaved and friendly. He's in pain. The vet disagreed said he's our property so it's our fault he isn't trained properly. He said I could drop him off and they would sedate him. But that's it. He said I don't have time for this. He was so unprofessional, I couldn't believe it. He continued on until my teenage daughter and I were in tears. My daughter wanted to leave. The vet said you want antibiotics or not? I said I need something. My dog is sick. I brought him in for help. He said I'll get you antibiotics or you can leave. My daughter was so upset she went to the car. I paid $111 for antibiotics and to be treated terribly but truly if I could have left and got antibiotics elsewhere, I would have. I have heard horror stories about this vet. I have friends that are personal friends with this man. Raved about him. So I put caution to the wind giving him a chance. Never again. I will tell everyone that will listen not to take their pets to this man.
