I received a notice about this estate event and it prompted me to inform people about what happened…read moreto me at State St. Jewelers. In June 2023 the diamond fell out of my engagement ring. I took it into State Street Jewelers along with my other heirloom antique family ring. I was having trouble with the antique ring staying stones up because the their weight of the stones and the atrophy of my finger. They showed me various ways of correcting the problem with their best suggestion being the setting that opens like a claim shell with an instrument that opens the setting in half. I was told I needed one new diamond in the antique ring because one was chipped in addition to the new setting to keep the ring from rolling under to the palm of my hand. I also elected to upgrade my wedding band from a band with diamonds going 3/4 of the way around to a full eternity ring with larger diamonds. With the larger diamonds, it was too much to continue to wear all three rings on on one finger so I opted to have my engagement stone placed in an earring setting and bought an addition stone that was the closest stone to match. We pay a lot of money for the new setting, the replacement stone for one that I was told was damaged, a new eternity band with more diamonds, an additional diamond to match my engagement diamond and then to have both of those made into earrings. After all was done and delivered I was happy with the looks. The earring were fine and the eternity ring was fine, Unfortunately, after only wearing the antique ring for a short period of time the clam shell setting popped open for no reason. When it popped open my ring fell off. Fortunately it fell in the car and I was able to locate it. I took it in and they adjusted it. Then it happened again. I took it in again. All of these incidents happened in a short period of time after receiving the ring. I felt that the setting was defective but State Street insisted on doing minor adjustments and returning it to me. In October we moved from Greensboro to Maryland. After arriving the same problem continued to persist with the clam shell popping open with no cause or reason. I contacted State Street and let them no about the issue. I was told that I would have to return to Greensboro to have anything done to fix the ring because they would need to have my finger. I am not driving 7 hours to have them fix a ring that I was having problems with before we left. I continued to wear it a short time after arriving in Maryland until the frequently in which it opened on it's own made it too risky and I have not worn my ring for a year. I am very disappointed that with the amount of money we spent and the problems I had right after receiving the ring. Their only solution was for me to return personally to Greensboro. The setting was clearly defective and should have been replaced after the second time it popped open. All the money we paid to State Street jeweler and I am going to have to pay for a new band here in Maryland. A band that was clearly defective from the start. So think twice about doing business with State Street unless you are absolutely sure you will never be leaving Greensboro. I got a defective band and now the cost of replacing that is going to be on me. To say I am disappointed and unhappy is putting it mildly.

I proposed to my now fiancee this past Saturday and she said yes. The engagement ring came from…read moreSchiffman's at Friendly Center. My mom, who worked in the wholesale jewelry industry for her entire career, helped me immensely in building the ring. She handed down her engagement diamond to me and my fiancee. So, not only did the diamond come with a lot of love and meaning (it's priceless to us), it was a practical decision as well. Schiffman's supplied the new mounting and also the wedding ring. My mom initially went to Windsor Jewelers in Winston-Salem, but ultimately chose to work with and purchase from Schiffman's. Schiffman's has been in Greensboro since 1893. They have two locations in Greensboro (downtown and Friendly Center) and a location in Winston. My mom worked with Rich Lindor to create the rings and had them shipped, overnight, to me in Georgia. You could say I was feeling somewhat anxious to receive the package the next day. When I opened the boxes, I couldn't believe my eyes. The rings were absolutely stunning. I got nervous just looking at them. Mom did good. My fiancee and I had gone ring shopping in Atlanta (Solomon Brothers was my pick) and my fiancee picked out a ring she liked. It was Sylvie brand, white gold I believe, with a round-cut diamond, and pave on the band optional. It was simple, timeless, and elegant. I sent pictures to my mom, the expert, and she found a design that exceeded both my and my fiancee's expectations. It looks even better than the ring my fiancee had picked out. The brand is called Precision Set and the rings look amazing. The engagement stone is a round brilliant cut (I think round is the most popular shape these days). The ring is platinum. Platinum is more expensive than white gold. It looks like white gold, but it's more pure, durable, and low maintenance. There's a melee pave set on the shank in a three-row arrangement (three rows of pave, round and full cut, on either side of the basket) with a four-prong setting. To us, the ring is perfect in every way -- the look (especially the sparkle), the fit, everything about it. We couldn't be happier with the result. As for the wedding ring, it matches the engagement ring exactly, except the three-row pave covers the entirety of the band. Rich called me after the rings were delivered to make sure I received the rings and everything was to my satisfaction (it was). I spoke to Rich at length about the rings and he did a great job of explaining everything and answering all the questions I had. He was professional, knowledgeable, and polite. I enjoyed talking to him. He also sent me an appraisal, prepared by Schiffman's in-house certified gemologist appraiser (American Gem Society) Edward Durbin, for insurance purposes. Again, in the end, we couldn't be happier with the rings from Schiffman's. Thank you, Rich. Tip: Schiffman's will clean any piece of jewelry for you, whether you purchased the piece from them or not, for free. Just bring it by the store and ask.

I can't say enough good things about Jewelry Appraisals of NC!!!!…read more I called to ask if I needed an appointment and although she said I did she fit me in that day. She asked what I needed appraised and what I was looking to get out of the appointment. I was very clear with her on the phone that I was looking to authenticate a piece I bought online and that I would not be getting paperwork. Which means the appraisal is free. They only charge if you want paperwork to insure the item. I was a little hesitant because everywhere else wanted to charge just to look at the piece. But I went in and Karen was amazing! She looked at the piece thoroughly with several pieces of equipment and went to ask her other appraiser to double check her thoughts. She didn't even ask me what I paid for the item until after she gave me all her findings and thoughts. So I know she wasn't just telling me what I wanted to hear. (A little background... I brought in an antique camphor glass necklace. The value of it is in its age and detail not so much the material. It is really valued more as a piece of art then a piece of jewelry. Because if you scrapped it the materials would be worth very little). She was spot on what I paid for it. So I was relieved that I didn't over pay. Especially understanding that a piece like I had the value is a bit subjective. And even though Karen knew she wasn't going to make a penny she took all the time in the world to answer every last question I had very thoroughly. She even took the time to give a look at my vintage engagement ring and talk about that. She gave me estimates to fix some things and was not pushy at all. And the price to fix the items was pennies . Furthermore, had I wanted a written appraisal their prices are very low compared to other jewelry stores. And here is the thing folks. They are APPRAISERS. This is what they do!!! Not a side hustle for a jewelry store, this is what they dedicate there knowledge to!!! I will forever be taking all my pieces to Karen and Jewelry Appraisers of NC for appraisals and repairs and I suggest you all do the same!!!!!

My wife and I were married when I was young, and still up and coming. Back then, I explained to her…read morethe quality of Moissanite and how she could have a much bigger, high quality stone if she let me go that way. She agreed (she is a champ). But 20 years later, and two years into retirement...she told me she wanted a diamond, and how could I argue. So on our last vacation, we stopped by a few jewelry stores in the mountains and she got her diamond. But we bought the ring at one place, and then found the band used in another. They were different sizes, so I took this new "collection" to Ring Master to see if they could make one ring out of them, in a single size. I tell ya, I am retired military, not retired Elon Musk. Haha, that means my family live very comfortably, but we don't have money just to throw away. When I walked into this place, I saw that they have a little bar set up with black label liquor for their customers. The old Sailor in me thought "uh oh...this is gonna cost me!" While I waited, I started thinking of how I was going to B.S. my way out of it, when I heard their pricing. But then Jeremy came out. This guy took his time with me. He established his credibility, and then took me through every detail of what had to be done. Then I thought "D__n, I like this guy and he seems very competent. I wish I didn't already know he was about to show me how they afford to have a free bar in this joint." After all of that, we got to it. I looked him in the eye, he looked me in the eye and we talked numbers. That was the biggest surprise of the day. He's not cheap, mind you (quality never is), but he was surprisingly reasonable. My internal value calculator said to me "self, you handsome devil, you will get quality work here and he just gave you a number that you can swing pretty comfortably." So I left him my wife's new rings, and also my Grandfather's pinkie ring and my old Navy ring that I wear daily (I had just lost 65 pounds, so my own rings needed resizing as well). I picked them all up yesterday and...yeah man...my instincts about this guy were right. All the rings were flawless! Hell, I never even knew that mine were supposed to shine, but man...not only did they fit again but the white gold on one and sterling of the other downright sparkled! The Navy ring even has a section where there is black paint outlining the silver anchors on the side and he went in and touched that up to make my 30 year old ring look brand new! The diamonds on my wife's band were rearranged to match up with the diamonds on her ring and...man oh man was she thrilled at the results of Jeremy's work! Then, when I was leaving, they told me to bring them back any time for free cleaning! I was just looking for a resizing and soldering together on my wife's separately purchased rings. I GOT three rings resized, repaired and detailed to perfection...for a number that did not kill me. Could I have just gotten resizing "cheaper." Probably. But I also could have told my wife "no" after she sported the Moissanite the young punk version of me bought her, for 20 years. Why do things if you aren't going to do them right? These guys do it right. HIGHLY recommended.

Great shop, nice jewelry + a bonus mini museum of found sunken treasures. They sell both men's and women's jewelry with a nice collection of watches and varying price points.
