It's a bold statement to say I just ate the best cinnamon roll in North Carolina, but honestly... I…read morethink I did. Louie and Honey's Kitchen is flat-out amazing. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is cool and welcoming, with plenty of comfortable seating both indoors and out. The staff was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. And the baked goods? There were so many incredible-looking options that I already know we'll have to come back and work our way through the menu. But that cinnamon roll stole the show. It was warm, soft, and perfectly chewy, with just the right amount of icing. Sweet enough to be delicious without being overly sweet. We'll absolutely be making this a regular stop every time we pass through Winston-Salem. If you're anywhere nearby, do yourself a favor and stop in. And get the cinnamon roll.

I ordered the traditional cinnamon roll and a sea salt chocolate chip cookie. The cinnamon roll had really good flavor, especially the frosting and dough, and I thought the cinnamon-to-roll ratio was perfect. It was served slightly warm, but I did find the roll to be a little dry. The cookie, however, was easily my favorite. The combination of chocolate chips and sea salt was so good that I would honestly go back for a dozen cookies before getting another cinnamon roll. The customer service was pretty standard and not particularly personable, but the food was the main reason I stopped in. Overall, I enjoyed trying the spot, and that cookie definitely gave me a reason to come back.

Do you love pop-up shops, locally made products, once-a-month special events, WOMEN,…read moreboutique-thrift items, recyclable goods, sustainable cleaning supplies, jewelry, BEER, letter-press cards and oh so much more?! Then let me know you, the Durham Patchwork mini-market is about to be your new best friend! I "secretly" took my boyfriend to Fullsteam on the first Saturday of the month so we could "grab a beer." Little did he know that there was a full-blow POP-UP shop within! My eyes got wide and he realized he'd been tricked, but man oh man was it worth it [and he got a beer out of it!]. This little market is any girls dream! While you sip on a brew you can wonder between vendors [the majority female entrepreneurs and artisans] and have conversations while they tell you about their products, which they are all very passionate about. The vendors change from month to month, but the covered [non air conditioned] space in Fullsteam is filled to the tippy top. This is a perfect spot to pick up presents for friends, yourself or stock up on Christmas supplies! You can support many local business in one stop AND in a chill but popping environment. Check out their facebook page [www.facebook.com/TheDurhamPatchworkMiniMarket] for the latest vendor news and updates. And now you know where to find me every FIRST Saturday from 12:00-4:00pm.

There were a variety of craft vendors that were local artists. I would rather buy a local artist print, mug, ring, etc than go to a mall. I wish there was more 'walking' room though, it was very packed (which is a good thing).

I enjoyed a lovely Saturday morning exploring aisles of vintage items. Vendors were pleasant and…read morepersonable. The only thing I didn't appreciate was the high price for a lot of extremely used items. For example, there were items that were clearly boy gently used, but priced as if they were new!! Additionally, the building itself added nicely to the vintage mood as could be expected from the owner of Amelie's. Each vendor had a unique and distinct theme of merchandise so there was a purposeful variety, which gives two thumbs up to Amy H. for thinking ahead about customers' needs and bringing this concept to Charlotte; this type of gathering is more common in bigger cities, so it is refreshing to see it here. Items ranged from old Americana, Atomic '50s house-wares and lighting, clothing, art, to Chinoiserie furniture, and more. The event had such a huge turn-out that the ample on-site parking did not suffice, leading to some minor issues in the parking lot. Rest assured that this site does have ample parking, but this event received attendance that exceeded expectations, which is a good thing. Perhaps for future events the vendors could park in the rear, as I noticed that they had parked near the entrance. They should really have unloaded near the door, and then moved the vehicles to the very rear, as what happened was a bit inconsiderate to the patrons. But this was the only real problem with the event's organization, which is amazing for a first effort in the Queen city and very professional. I'm looking forward to more of these events. Maybe I'll camp outside overnight for the next one.
