By the end of the 2 hour call, the new lawyer then gave me another estimate to finish the project that was way higher than the initial quote but I feel obligated to continue with them because of the 2 hour ($600+) sunk cost. What was more unacceptable was that the lawyer's response was not timely. Sometimes she didn't respond for 4 or 5 days after multiple follow up emails. And she claimed that she didn't receive the final signed document from the opposing lawyer due to email server issue (which I received through regular consumer Gmail account). I am not sure if she is telling the truth. If she is, I wouldn't want to work with a firm that has unstable email servers that may miss important legal emails.

Julie Caputo handled a family member's case for about 6 months. The case is still ongoing so I…read morecan't discuss specifics. Julie is best suited for cases that are likely to settle in mediation or arbitration. You can tell by looking at her web site which clearly states they prefer Collaboration, Mediation, and Arbitration and I quote: ..."We reserve the use of litigation - the use of the courts to make decisions for the family - as a last resort for our clients..." I suggest you heed this, it's a warning. Julie sucks in court. She was not prepared, was not organized, and during one short hearing when Julie spoke, my family member counted 33 "umms and ahhhs" as he shrunk in his chair. Bad place to realize you are not represented by an experienced litigator that lights up when it's their turn to speak, becomes a presence, a force to be reckoned with. Julie is none of that. Julie will steer you to get along, don't rattle the cage, to give in, and she does not like the courtroom. We warned Julie we had a very high conflict case that was unlikely to settle. When opposing party pulled stunts, Julie's frustration was always directed at her client, my family member. She gets mad and literally yells at and belittles clients to their face--clients that are already traumatized by the high conflict nature of the relationship they are extricating themself from. It all came crashing down during a phone call between my family member and Julie. After yelling at him and slamming down the phone, she missed the handset cradle--she continued yelling in her office (to her son Nicholas who works for her), thinking she had hung up. "I HATE THIS CASE - XX must be stupid, doesn't care about money" --on and on (can't go into case specifics)-- for 4-5 minutes as family member listened to what Julie and Nicholas *really* thought about him and the case, until she figured out the phone had not hung up. Whoops. I gave one star because Julie does have redeeming qualities. She's just not good in court, nor is she able to handle truly high conflict cases with empathy and grace. To Julie's credit, she writes good letters, but forgets to use spellcheck, or hover over underlines--lots of typos. She also introduced us to 191 restrictions in parenting plans which prior counsel did not know about or mention. She is probably very good at collaboration, mediation and arbitration but we don't know, our case was never headed that way. We have new counsel, a brilliant experienced litigator that comes to court 100% prepared, large and in charge. He is totally unfazed by the high conflict antics of opposing party, to the contrary, he exhibits empathy, and watches for his place to jump in to make it stop. On the last round of motion flurry, while we are still processing what just happened, he is half way to the next goalpost. Incredible. I have retained over 4 attorneys in the past, and I feel that my opinion of Mr. Mutchler holds some credibility. I currently have 2 other attorneys on retainer right now. Raymond is not the type of attorney that makes you feel like he is "Nickle and Diming you". His method of billing for his services is reasonable. And within reason, he will be supportive and helpful with communication here and there and it won't be guaranteed to be on the invoice. But typical lawyer fees should be expected, his time is valuable. However, for example, a friend of mine currently has an attorney that if you email him and ask a question regarding a letter that was already paid for, my friend will get billed for that question. Literally one question regarding a document that he paid for could not be asked without receiving an additional invoice. Another example is one attorney I have had in the past was very poor with communication, but extremely competent in the court room. A very powerful attorney to have in your corner, but sometimes you have to send him more than one email with a question because he wouldn't always reply, ever, not just in a timely fashion. That is not Raymond, he is very attentive with communication. Another attorney I had would repeat themselves a lot while billing me for every second of the conversation. It was very annoying because when you are paying an attorney by the minute for a verbal conversation, the last thing you want is for the conversation to go around in circles. He would also forget that he had already told me about something and repeat it to me. That is not Raymond. While he may have a short pause to contemplate something you asked him, he is generally efficient with getting his advice to you without running out the timer. Raymond is also nice, I have had attorneys that are nice too, but try to rush you off the phone or have a tone in their voice like they don't like talking to you. Not Raymond. He gives off genuine vibes despite it being work for him, you feel like a friend is talking to you. Knowledge wise, Raymond has taken the time to review a lease and find faults with it that was inherited by the acquisition of a duplex and it was drafted by a prominent, successful property management group. He identified that the lease was following outdated laws and verbiage with a buy-out clause that was not as clear as it should ideally be. Raymond also gave me advice for a lease I needed for my rental property that at the end of the day, saved me money and avoided paying him a lot for it. That was something that he did which keeps me coming back to him for my investment properties. He is in it for the well being of his clients, not just the money. Raymond Mutchler is knowledgeable, personable and reasonable. And he follows the concept that has long term benefits from taking care of his clients, instead of some professionals that focus on the short term benefits of getting as much money as possible from a client but will likely cause them to not be a repeat customer. Unlike one attorney I interviewed that offered to charge me $1,300 to file a LLC application that takes 30 minutes. Just filing, not writing!
