This was an annual checkup appointment. My doctor retired so I had the pleasure of meeting Dr…read more Margi Johnson. She has a great bed side manner. She was genuinely interested in my overall health and went above and beyond to take care of all my needs. It's hard to switch doctors but she made me feel comfortable and I'm glad she's part of this practice. This medical group has always been great about calling me back and getting me in the office ASAP when I'm sick. They have late evening appointments which work great with my schedule. I highly recommend them for anyone who's looking for a general physician in the Northeast!

I would not recommend Dr. Margi Johnson as your primary physician if you suffer from panic attacks…read more I was admitted into the emergency room on 11/3/16 I was prescribed anti anxiety meds and diagnosed with anxiety. I was told to follow up w my primary doctor which I did not have at the time. I scheduled an appointment w Dr. Johnson provided her the ER paperwork n RX bottle she refused to assist me with my panic attacks. She was brief w my medical history and showed lack of concern. I scheduled an appointment with a Psych two weeks later. During that period I suffered massive panic attacks and was completely miserable. The office would not help me and referred me back to the ER. Now I am stuck with a $200 ER bill for a diagnosis that could have been treated by Dr. Johnson and the office. I am disappointed and now in debt with an emergency room I was admitted to twice for the same problem. Thanks Dr. Margi Johnson.

As a new patient I made a consult appointment as my primary doctor retired…read more The website was easy to navigate and the location was perfect. On my appointment date with medical history and current labs n hand, I found the staff very thorough and Doctor Stein exceptional. I was allotted all the time I needed to fill in my history as well as his review of my paperwork presented. Very impressive! I definitely made an important decision to have this office and doctor include me under their care.

I've been a patient of this practice since I was born, but Dr. Stein is the third doctor to own it…read moresince I've been going there. The practice started with Dr. Greenwald, and then went to Dr. Alan Shakt before Dr. Stein bought it when Dr. Shakt retired. Dr. Stein has owned the practice for a good couple of years now, so I know him pretty well. This practice is located on Morrell Avenue just off of Frankford, in the medical building next to the shopping center with Mr. Chicken It's on the left if you're coming from Frankford Ave. Conveniently, there's also a place to get blood tests done in the same building, just a different suite. Dr. Stein is a family practitioner who graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) about 11 years ago or so, so he's still pretty young. He's extremely nice, and he spends quality time with each patient, with his attention fixed firmly upon the patient during the office visit. He doesn't rush you in and out like a lot of doctors, and he listens carefully as you describe your symptoms. He's very careful about giving antibiotics only when needed, and he is extremely well-informed about the latest medical issues. He's very helpful with diet information, and he's particularly good and readjusting my spine if my back hurts (I'm young, I know, but I have back issues sometimes). I also trust his referrals to specialists because he knows his stuff. He's also got a cool PDA type of thing that he uses to enter prescriptions electronically, and *poof* they zoom through the air and print out at the front desk. That way, the pharmacist can read the prescription. He's also really available when the office isn't open, for emergencies, and he has coverage when he's not available. So, even though he's a solo practitioner, he's very accessible. His staff is also really, really nice. I've known some of them since I was really little, and the others have been there for a long time. It's a good sign when there is little staff turnover at a business, I think. I just have two tiny complaints. The first is that I sometimes find it difficult to get through on the phone when I call to make an appointment. It seems like it's always either busy or I get the answering service even though the office is open. My second complaint is that I always have to wait a while when I come in for an appointment. It's not unusual for me to get called back 30 minutes after my appointment time. I suspect that it's because Dr. Stein does spend so much time with each patient, but sometimes I'm in a hurry and it's annoying. My parents go here, too, and my mom once complained (firmly) to Dr. Stein about it, and it was like she kicked a puppy. He's far to nice to yell at. Honestly, though, these two complaints are extremely minor because I am happy to have a doctor whom I can trust and who I know cares about me. On a final note, I'll leave you with a story. I moved to Connecticut for two years for grad school, and, my first week there, I got the most awful stomach bug I've ever had. I threw up nonstop for hours, and I didn't have a doctor up there because I'd just moved, so I called Dr. Stein. I told him what I was experiencing, and he wasted no time in calling a prescription to the nearest pharmacy for a medicine that would make me stop puking. And it worked. That's a doctor who cares because he made no money from me on that call. It's not like he could charge my insurance for an office visit. He's the best doctor.

The second person when I called back was a bit more friendly but she also put me on hold when I told her that I was sick and I needed an appointment on it it again was over 5 minutes when I finally gave up and realized that I didn't want to be going to a place that would put me on hold for so long when they never even dealt with me before because you would think that they would treat new people better. So I don't know what kind of healthcare they give but patient care at this cilty which is represented in the first case by the people who answer the phones, was horrendous and shameful. The place is really convenient within walking distance in Penn Medicine has a good reputation but the way they've managed this place and set it up so that your first Contact is with incompetent people who make you wait interminably is just unacceptable. I have no reason to believe that when I arrived at that place the treatment would be any better An update. I got a call from someone after I left this review. She informed me that I had called a central call location for downtown Philly. But it's a number that was given and it was the same number that I was given when they she gave me the right number to call. So their system doesn't even check to see where somebody is trying to make an appointment which makes this even worse. She persuaded me to give it one more try I did. And I asked how long would it be until I can make an appointment with the doctor. I was told it would be the end of June so at least 5 weeks. Wow
