We walked in and were greeted by a wonderful display of baked goods for our choosing. I immediately knew what I was getting after seeing the case of empire biscuits or what they called Belgian biscuits. My mom went for a gingerbread man cookie and the boyfriend went for a fruit slice with lemon frosting. My biscuit was delicious as empire biscuits almost always are, but my mom wasn't a fan of her rather hard gingerbread man cookie. She said it was really hard to bite in to it was so hard, and didn't eat much of it. I tried the fruit slice, and it was interesting. The boyfriend mentioned it's much better with vanilla frosting, the lemon frosting didn't do much for it. There were loads of things to purchase, including whole cakes and savoury goods. Also, some weird 24 bakery machine, which I was curious about but didn't try out. I'd be in trouble if that machine was anywhere near where I live. Thankfully it's here, in St. Andrews. I might be tempted to stop here again if in the area, but if there's another local bakery, I would definitely check them out to see how they differ.

However, perhaps that is because, although the products are pretty much the same as the others, the staff seem to be less friendly and despite trying avidly to interact and create some form of community spirit, they do not seem interested, and often seem rather bored and lack lustre. However, the quality of their cakes and pastries and breads more than makes up for it, and their fudge doughnuts can only be eaten to be believed. They have a lovely window display during festive holidays so worth visiting maybe then.

Liberally sprinkled with castor sugar --- and ... a hint of salt which I have always enjoyed in a shortbread. Some people don't use it - which I find lacking. This was TRUE, 100% uncomplicated shortbread, the way shortbread should taste. Definitely worth a visit! (Nice customer service as well).

It's such a huge missed opportunity because if ever a Starbucks should be cool it's this one. In the heart of the quaintest college high street. It should look and feel like the set of friends. Instead it's so sad. But I should say, the staff are lovely. And I'm sorry for them. Come on Starbucks !!! Get your act together !!! Get sofas in here. Books. Magazines. Good lighting. It's not hard. If the weather is suitable enough, I recommend taking your drink to have down by the harbour or the cathedral or even on the quad by St Salvator's Chapel. This is St Andrews, darling, and this is Starbucks. One might hope it would be a nicer Starbucks, and, to be fair, they have made improvements over the last few years to the interior. It's one of the smallest starbucks I've been inside, but it's always buzzing with people. The way they've remodelled the seating has made it more suitable for a student town with more bar-style seating (great for sitting at with your laptop) rather than just tables (which always made the place WAY to crowded). Despite valiant efforts for quality independent coffee shops, nothing has lasted, so why not stop at Starbucks or another chain if you're in town?
