Ah Holtwhites, thank you for existing in what some might call a rather uninspiring neighbourhood…read more(food wise that is). Going to Holtwhites is an experience in itself, the exceedingly lovely staff, the beautiful looking stock and layout. It really is the jewel in the Enfield crown for me and I love showing it off to guests who come and visit thinking that Enfield is just one big shopping centre. 'Here, have some pain du campagne and pate in a lovely jute bag' I might say... I like to walk down there on a free day or weekend and just see what's going on in there. Normally some lovely conversation about how nice last week's goats cheese was or which bread to team with the tapenade (which is tasty btw). So, Holtwhites, when are you going to open matching big lovely coffee shops that I can hang out in every weekend and spend all my hard earned cash in? Soon? I hope so...

Well since it is December and I really fancied something festive for lunch, I gave this a shot. It was great and at only 1.99 was a bargain! Highly recommended. This is the only traditional bakery in Enfield town centre and is well stocked with a variety of freshly baked breads, sandwiches and even hot and cold drinks. Worth a trip for the sandwiches alone!

Oh I'm so easily pleased…read more I had to pop into the nearby Sainsbury's for some emergency spuds - I wanted to do some roasties and we had run out of spuds, it was a potato drama! The distinctive sugary smell wafted across to me in the cold November air before I'd even clocked the large, neon Krispy Kreme sign on the other side of the car park. I decided this meant I should stuff my face with donuts. We didn't take the drive-thru option as we weren't 100% sure what we wanted, so we took a wander inside. They've set it up like a '50s American diner, one of the girls serving had made an effort to look a little retro herself although the others clearly hadn't so I think that was her own choice rather than a set rule. Good on ya girl! It was somewhat cold and sterile inside and I have to agree with SJ that the car park outside seemed a little rough, however we weren't planning on staying and the staff were friendly and efficient so we left, VERY happy with 4 donuts of our choice and 2 complimentary donuts. The complimentary donuts were WARM and soooo tasty! My only regret was not buying a cup of tea to eat them with. You kind of know what you're getting with a Krispy Kreme, yes they're a bit overpriced and yes they are 1,000% sugar and oh so bad for you but DAMN they're good! I could eat a box of a dozen on my own and still have room for more...but maybe that's just me...

I've never seen so many potential drug deals in one parking lot in my life. It seems to be hang out central for everyone with cars with tinted windows, slick blue lights on the license plates, and the bass pumped to ear splitting levels. The police are always driving through, and for a change, they are not there for the doughnuts I assure you. And yet, for late at night sugar fixes, what more can you ask for, really?! The service is excellent here, and the drive through is usually pretty fast and friendly. Sure, the doughnuts are overpriced, and you spend a great deal of the time fearing for your life...but where else can you get doughtnuts this good in England so late at night? Nowhere, I assure you. Just be sure to lock the doors and wear your bullet proof vest. Still, I think the local color makes it even more interesting.
