Modern facility, kind and caring staff. Dr. Kassan is great. He explained what he planned to do and kept me updated as he numbed my mouth and filled my cavity. There are few ways to convey this without sounding dirty . My mom started going to him and was so happy that I decided to switch from my other dentist. I'm glad I did as Dr. Kassan is much closer to my house and really is a great dentist. My mother needs a lot of dental work and Dr. Kassan laid out her options with a payment plan and no pressure. I've been going to Dr. Kassan for at least 6 years. I have never waited in the waiting room more than 60 seconds, even when 15 minutes early. I really don't understand why they have magazines there, when you don't wait. Once when the filling wasn't exactly perfect (because you can never get the bite right when your mouth is numb), they got me in immediately to adjust the filling, with again, no waiting. read more

I had a bad experience with this office. I currently use Metlife as my insurance provider. Dr. Kassan's pratice accepts this insurance. I had my crown cemented to my tooth. After receiving service, I paid what I thought was my cost share and a week later got an additional bill for $120. (My balanced cost share not covered by insurance.) I asked twice for my co-pay before/after service and was told the same amount. When I asked the office if they "accept" Metlife, they replied, "Yes." It was a play on words, after questioning further I found out they are an "authorized provider" not a network provider. I was out of network, and am subject to pricing outside of the network. In other words, when a healthcare provider is authorized, they may or may not agree to "accept assignment" -- that is, accept the maximum allowable charge as payment in full for services. If they don't agree, then they are considered non-participating providers. They may elect to accept assignment on a claim-by-claim basis. I was not aware I had to ask that question, "Are you a Network provider?" not "do you accept Metlife?" I asked to speak to the dentist, I received a callback one month later. Dr. Kassan lectured me for 20 minutes stating that everyone on staff is trained and knows to tell callers whether or not they are a network provider for their insurance. He maintained the position that I knew they were only "authorized" providers because they told me before rendering service. I told him I did not know better to ask the question. What is most upsetting is my choice to decide whether or not I should use their office. There are plenty of In-Network dentists in my area. Dr. Kassan said, "I should consider myself lucky he didn't charge me for the local anesthetic that he administered." Wow! Seriously? Not sympathetic at all - he shown a smug and arrogant attitude. Take a lesson from me and ask the deeper level questions. It can save you frustration and $$$. There are many providers out there and you can avoid an experience like mine and dentists like him. read more

I am not good with remembering names so I asked his name as I left he acted very rude and did not allow to ask any questions . He did gum surgery on me. Dr. Gregg Kassan is an excellent dentist. I have been going to him for years. He has done exceptional work on my teeth. He is very professional and is highly skilled in the dentistry field. He is the most gentle dentist I have ever had and exercises the upmost care to make you comfortable and pain free. His office staff is very nice and professional as well. It is a very clean up to date office. He has the best dental hygienists I have ever had named Liza. My entire family has gone to him and with them growing up and trying other dentists, they still say they have never had a more pleasant experience than at Dr Kassan's practice and wished they lived closer so they could use him. Sadly, this practice seems to have faded off over the years though I should have seen the red flags from when this dentist's face would "light up" over the dental benefits I have. Went here last year to fill a large cavity. I let him know that due to a busy schedule, I would have a difficult time coming during his work hours and would eventually find time to come in for a crown. Eventually, time passed and I received a nasty note in the mail. It was a letter from Dr. Kassan demanding full payment for his services, including the amount that concisted of my co-payment which I had left him. Shocked and dismayed as to why my insurance provider had not paid him, I called, only to find out that he had indeed been paid and was actually demanding I pay the o-payment twice. The insurance provider was shocked at this dental practice's lack of professionalism. I called to follow up with them and was told that "at least we got your attention to make the next appointment." I told them that was the wrong way to do business and henceforth have found a far more professional and courteous practice that actually treats its customers with respect. After reading some of these other reviews I see I am not the only way to have noticed this practice begin to deteriorate as far back as the spring of 2015. I hope for his sake he can right his ship before he alienates his entire customer base as many others in the Montclair community have also been taken aback by the low quality service this practice now offers. read more

I just wanted to add, in addition to my review submitted for my son's 11/7/13 visit. Dr Kassan's office even called to check in on my son over the holiday weekend. His procedure was for an extraction so since it was more invasive than a typical filling, they wanted to check to be sure he was ok and hadn't gotten worse. What more could you ask for in a dental office. We just moved to the area, and based on other reviews I decided to take my 7 year old daughter to see Dr. Kassan to get a night mouth guard made for her teeth grinding. She had previously worn night guards due to grinding, but we lost her current guard during our move. Anyway the staff was quick to get us in for an appointment, we were on time, and then waited for 20 minutes in the exam room for Dr. Kassan to come in. He was talking and doing some paperwork right around the corner the whole time we were waiting. Not a good sign. But then he came in and seemed a bit abrupt when my daughter asked questions etc. I just assumed he was having a bad day. But then he proceeded to explain to me why he felt she no longer needed a guard etc., but that she did have 2 teeth that needed sealants. I should have trusted my Mommy instinct and walked away at that point, but no, I decided to bring her back for a second visit to get the teeth sealed. We returned for the second visit a week later to the same service as before. Office staff was friendly and techs were nice, but the doctor lacked basic bedside manner with my curious and nervous 7 year old. Once again we were on time and put in the room to wait 10-15 minutes for Dr. Kassan to come in. During this time, my daughter was growing more and more nervous about the procedure ( looking at all the pokey instruments on the tray etc.) She was voicing her concerns to me, all the while Dr. Kassan was once again doing some sort of paperwork right around the corner! I know he heard her concerns, but he still came in past the appointment time! This is where his bedside manner took a HUGE turn for the worse! He was obviously annoyed by her questions, answering abruptly things like "I've done hundreds of these sealants on kids! What I am doing is not going to hurt!" Then he started shoving stuff in her mouth etc., even though she was still very upset. During the procedure she pushed his hand away, and he yelled at her to "open up!" because she still had the thing that holds their mouth open inside. He was very visibly shaken and losing his cool. I would have pulled her out right then, but he was in the middle of the sealant and I was trying to keep her calm. As the dental technician walked us to the front she hugged my daughter and said "I'm sorry it got so stressful in there." Once again the technicians are nice, too bad they work for a jerk! This was the 1st dental procedure she had EVER had done and THANKS TO DR. KASSAN she's now horrified of going to a dentist! UGH After 4 years of wonderful pediatric dentists, I fear this experience has ruined her trust. She left the office asking me why the dentist was so angry. I would NOT recommend this arrogant dentist for any child or adult for that matter. His bedside manner was atrocious! read more

Dr. Kassan has been our family dentist for the past 2 1/2 years since we moved back to Northern Virginia. He was recommended to me by a friend who has been going to him for years. I love how his office staff is able to accomodate all 8 of us without a problem -- and they do everything with a smile! My 5 year-old counted down the days for almost two weeks before her most recent cleaning. I have 2 main problems with Dr. Kassan that I would like to share with others before they make a decision to become patients of his. 1. He made a dental mistake on our child that has cost our child his 4 front teeth. Although I was terribly irritated by the second problem, this one is surely the more important one. We brought our 1 year old into his practice with concerns about discoloration on his top row of teeth. Dr. Kassan agreed to see him and give him a quick exam. Upon seeing our son's discoloration, Dr. Kassan communicated to us his belief the discoloration was a result of antibiotic use as an infant. He told us it would not affect his adult teeth, and there was nothing to worry about. He also said explicitly NOT TO SEEK ANOTHER OPINION from a pediatric dentist unless we had cosmetic concerns. We certainly did NOT have cosmetic concerns and didn't want to expose him to anything unnecessary. Over the following 2-3 months, his teeth appeared to get darker. It was hard to see into his mouth, but it did appear to be getting worse. Finally 3 months later, despite his recommendations, we decided it would probably be best to visit a pediatric dentist. The pediatric dentist was able to spot the DECAY as soon as he opened his mouth. Simple but severe decay. He would need to have all 4 teeth removed. I brought him back in for the procedure there and was in tears as they removed the teeth. When I told her how angry I was feeling at our dentist for having missed it, she simply said that I wasn't wrong. It would've been easy enough to have referred us out for another opinion, and it was, after all, only decay. We now have choices to make over whether or not to place implants and are in the process of seeking out a speech evaluation. 2. He is very strict about missed appointments. To a flaw. I understand how doctors' offices need to be able to run their operations smoothly, and good attendance by patients is a necessary part of that, but there are times when these policies should be loosely adhered to. Dr. Kassan charged my family $150 right before Christmas because of a missed appointment and would not excuse it even after I called to explain the circumstances (which had to do with another emergency medical appointment for my child). He also just charged me a $50 broken appointment fee for an appointment I walked out of. I tried again to explain the circumstances and again was told he would not excuse it. I was also told he had a policy (which he doesn't seem to tell his patients about) that states if a patient is late (which I was by 6 minutes), he has the right not to see them. And I feel he has the right to make whatever policies he wants to as long as he clearly communicates them. I have never been to an office who doesn't run by the standard 15 minute late rule, and I certainly would never bother making an appointment somewhere if I knew they did. My family and I have been patients of his for at least 5 years, and we have missed a few appointments. However, the missed appointments were due to emergency or sickness, were canceled more than 24 hours out, or truly were because we just plain forget (MAYBE 1 or 2 were a result of the latter over the 5+ year span). He keeps a running tally of all missed appointments and considers any missed appointment within 24 hours, regardless of circumstance (illness or emergency or whatever), a result of the patient's negligence. I am a very considerate patient, but I am not perfect. So I paid and now have chosen another dentist. read more

I have been a patient (& my family) at Dr Kassan office for several years now. I was very happy &we did not mind when the time came for us to schedule for the 6 months check up. I always was able to talk with someone so nice & friendly to schedule my families checkups. I have several family members so I know it can be a time consuming to fit us all in. The girl I would to talk to was always so nice & helpful in finding the perfect time for our busy lifestyle. When we went to the checkup we were greeted by friendly staff who ask about how things are & would even remember something from the last time I was there & ask about it. It felt like they were friends not dentist staff. We never had to wait long to be seen and sometimes 2 at a time instead of 1by1 which was nice. The (older lady) assistant who cleaned all our teeth the last few years was always so kind & nice & very detailed. She also remembered my family & details and would always ask how's things going. She made my trip to the dentist more relaxing & even enjoyable. Every time I would see her for my checkup she always did the same exact steps every time. She always had her routine down to the tee. My family never needed serious dental work that required us to see Dr Kassans much except when he would check our X-rays after the assistant did our cleaning. He never said much when he came in & was in &out. Not mean but never friendly. We would schedule our check ups in the afternoon so sometimes I thought maybe he's tired or had a long day. I know my kids are respectful& friendly so he can't be upset to be seeing my kids for a checkup. But we spend most the time with the assistant so it wasn't a big deal. I just would ignore that he was unfriendly. I had problems starting abt 9months ago maybe. I noticed at the checkup a year ago that most of the girls I normally seen wasn't working there anymore. The assistant who cleans my teeth was still there which I loved that & the girl at the front that always helps me with all my insurance&helps my kids feel safe and not nervous was still there. That made me still happy to go there. I thought that was strange the other girls worked there a long time &suddenly many were gone. I saw some new people but they were nice & then next check up for my kids just a week later I saw another new staff member this one wasn't nice and was rude to my kids. My kids were upset after &asked not to go back to the mean girl and to have the other girl instead. The last check up I called 3 months ago to schedule&still was happy to talk to the nice girl who always was very helpful with my 2nd new insurance so I would get the biggest benefit from the insurance. I also told her my concern about my kids not wanting to go back. She apologize because the other staff did not work there anymore but offered for my kids to try with a different girl than last time but this was another new girl too so I would be taking a chance again to upset them. Instead of taking a chance to upset my kids and scaring them from the dentist, I scheduled only my check up. Something came up for me on my schedule and I was not able to go to the original check up I scheduled. I called 2 weeks or more before the July check up to tell them I would not be able to come. I asked to change it for a different time. The girl was a different girl than I like to talk to & she gave me a rude attitude since I needed to change&told me I would have wait for a call the next day because she couldn't change the day of my check up & she needed to ask the manager about changing it because of notes on my file. She would not tell me the notes or why I can't change the day. The next day I called &the same girl I always talk to answered. I told her I was waiting on a call about it so I wasn't sure if she would be able to help me &she said she was the only other person who works in the scheduling and front desk but the girl I talked to did not leave a message that I called &my check up was still on the original day &time even though I said I could not go. She quickly changed my checkup day with no problem & I told her what happened she didn't understand why the other staff could not change it she said it was a simple task & she apologized again. My BIG PROBLEM happened the other day. I go for my checkup&now the girl at the front isn't working there anymore. This new girl is so rude & acts like she is better than others when I ask about the other girl she laughs&rolls her eyes. She knows less than the other girl & acted like I bothered her. THEN when I go back I don't get to see the assistant I see every single time. I was unhappy & they told me she is only PT now. Dr Kassans is losing good staff too much & he never cares. I will not go again. I went for my assistant & nice front desk girl. NOT for the rude dr. He lost very good staff&now my family&I'm sure many patients will notice too & stop going. It's too bad because he needed the nice staff to distract his rudeness. read more

Both my wife and I were commended to Greg Kassan in Montclair for dental work. The person referring us was a professional at a health clinic and we trusted his opinion. We both had dental work done by this dentist. I just had exays and a cleaning and my wife had several procedures to include repair to an implant. We were looking for a dentist who could perform this wide range of dental work and we finally found him! We were both enamored with his courtesy and professionalism and he had a very friendly, down to earth, manner about him which made it easy for both of us to ask questions, get great clarification and explanations and really get what I would call-above and beyond service! My wife had particular challenges with a broken impant screw that we have been unable to replace for almost three years and working with different dentists. This dentist somehow found the correct screw even though we did not know the manufacturer and came to find out that there are so many variations that it would be nearly impossible to fine. But, instead of recommending we replace the entire implant (like the other dentists did), he found the screw and completed the job! Way to go Doc!! Both my wife and I highly recommend this dentist to anyone looking for a trusting, professional and understanding dentist. And the fact that he accepts many forms of insurance is "icing on the cake."
