Specifically, this courthouse in Marshall, TX has become perhaps the most preferred place to file big patent lawsuits in the entire country. More than $200 million in verdicts have been entered in the last three weeks alone. As a result, some of the top technology trial lawyers in the country fly in constantly to wage war here. If you are in the area, and you like that kind of thing, it would be worth calling to see if opening statements or closing arguments are about to happen in one of these huge cases. The courthouse itself has been renovated, and it is nice, but note that you can't bring your cellphone in with you, so leave that in the car. Plus, the wood benches look better than they feel, and people actually bring cushions in with them to sit on. Finally, the left side has better views of the media screen, and the screen tends to be used a lot in these cases.

The district clerk in Athens does not accept appointments. We were able to walk in and be done in 15 minutes. The place I had the photo taken cropped it too close. But they took a replacement for only $5!!! It was almost $13 at the Ups store and I think Dallas passport offices were charging $22. The woman in the office was supper friendly and helpful. The inside of the building is neat because of all the black and white marble.

I love how the courthouse yard & street was all decorated with lights & stuff, they did a great job on that. Many local churches & businesses had different booths set up. I helped with the Eastern Hills Church Of Christ booth (smores & an inflatable slide nearby), & cleaning up afterwards. There were also speakers playing various Christmas tunes, but not too loud that you couldn't have a conversation. It was a little hard finding restrooms, though (perhaps in some various buildings & shops in the area?). I parked over by Railway Cafe & Come & Take It, some may have parked closer, near the Annex. It was a great location for a city-wide Christmas party, or any other city-wide get-together.

You like them big words? Yeah you do you dirty little nerds!!! The main lobby interior also really gives them "you're in a courthouse" vibe!!! However, some of the courtrooms don't have that classic feel because they've been updated. I love that dark wood and foreboding aura that old school courtrooms give off. That vibe let's you know some heavy shit goes down in here. That justice is being handed out!!! There is only street parking around the courthouse but there is a parking garage 2 blocks away from the courthouse in Regions Tower. Security can be a pain as they always make you take off your belt to go through the metal detector, even if your a freaking lawyer. Just a pain in the ass really. All in all I don't mind appearing here because it's a cool building and when you pull up you know you are about to walk into a courthouse.

This old building has been recently remodeled. It's a small footprint building, so there was not tons of square space to renovate, but they did a good job on what was there. The tile and walls were in great shape. The individual rooms had been updated, including the jury room, with a nice sink and cupboard. The grand old courtroom looked refurbished when I peeked in. My attorney friend says it had been abandoned for a long time and used for storage, so it is now back to the way it looked many years ago. They even updated the county clerk's record vault. the vault doors were repainted and they look great. Everyone working here was really nice. They helped me out with my needs and got me in and out in a jiff. I wish all courthouse experiences were this good.

A multimillion dollar grant was secured and more than a million dollars in local donations made up the difference to "Do it Right!" The historic courthouse has a rich history, researched by an enthusiastic committee to do something great for their home town and county. April 2, 1862, a company of 100 men gathered at this location to go fight with the 18th Texas Infantry, C.S.A. in the Civil War. Their mission was to keep the Union Army from taking northeast Texas. The Yankees were defeated by these men in the Red River Campaign. Another group of Union soldiers were sent from Little Rock to enter Texas from the northeast. Again the 18th prevailed, and Union forces never occupied northeast Texas.
