They finished the outside, which looks beautiful, but then apparently did not have the money to finish the inside. So the courthouse sits with a chain link fence around its perimeter, with boarded windows, but otherwise a majestic monument to justice. Whether or not anyone can use it, it still looks nice, and they do a great job lighting it up at Christmas. Hopefully one day they will get the funds to finish the job. Until then, the very boxy and ugly current county courthouse to the west does all the state court business. P.S. I've been there more recently (as recently as Jan. 2007) and it looks like the work continues. The parking lot is fenced and more work is being done on the perimeter. Still cannot tell what if anything is being done INSIDE the building, though.

The casual observer wandering by this courthouse in the sleepy downtown of Marshall would never…read moresuspect that it is home to some of the biggest legal battles in the country. Specifically, this courthouse in Marshall, TX has become perhaps the most preferred place to file big patent lawsuits in the entire country. More than $200 million in verdicts have been entered in the last three weeks alone. As a result, some of the top technology trial lawyers in the country fly in constantly to wage war here. If you are in the area, and you like that kind of thing, it would be worth calling to see if opening statements or closing arguments are about to happen in one of these huge cases. The courthouse itself has been renovated, and it is nice, but note that you can't bring your cellphone in with you, so leave that in the car. Plus, the wood benches look better than they feel, and people actually bring cushions in with them to sit on. Finally, the left side has better views of the media screen, and the screen tends to be used a lot in these cases.

You like them big words? Yeah you do you dirty little nerds!!! The main lobby interior also really gives them "you're in a courthouse" vibe!!! However, some of the courtrooms don't have that classic feel because they've been updated. I love that dark wood and foreboding aura that old school courtrooms give off. That vibe let's you know some heavy shit goes down in here. That justice is being handed out!!! There is only street parking around the courthouse but there is a parking garage 2 blocks away from the courthouse in Regions Tower. Security can be a pain as they always make you take off your belt to go through the metal detector, even if your a freaking lawyer. Just a pain in the ass really. All in all I don't mind appearing here because it's a cool building and when you pull up you know you are about to walk into a courthouse.

Even though I lost a good minute because their weird government issued thermometer (it looks like a camera for a mug shot) said I was too warm from outside. This is the courthouse where one goes when ticketed by the Shreveport City police for misdemeanor…read moreinfractions of the law or violation of city ordinances. It is a 2 story affair with 2 elevators and stairs to the 2nd floor. On the main floor is the City Marshal's office as well as the Civil and Criminal Clerk of Court's offices. I am in this courthouse on a regular basis dealing with mainly criminal defense work. The court rooms are well appointed and even though modern provide the necessary feel of gravitas to let you know you are in fact in a courtroom and not in some sanitized box that could be anything. There are 5 courtrooms in all with the large courtroom (#1) being on the main floor with the other 4 courtrooms and Judge's Chambers being on the second floor. Well maintained and overall nice courthouse.
