I would like to give a good review on Dana in the front office. She is sweet and wants to help you. I'm glad she is there.

I have lived in Greer since 2003. It's very quiet, peaceful and relatively secure. The grounds are well kept. It's great for kids, especially around holiday's - Santa comes,… Read more

Okay. My credentials first - I'm a licensed foster parent in the County of Los Angeles (inactive)…read morein a foster home (inactive), the adoptive parent of a child currently placed at Oak Grove under an IEP by LAUSD since October of 2018. Prior to that, my child was in a residential placement at Casa Pacifica in Camarillo until insurance decided a long-term residential placement was more appropriate. My choices were these guys or facilities in Utah, Texas or Florida. And I had to talk to admissions at Oak Grove before they would accept my kid for their program - glad they did! I despise medicating mental health issues as the primary modality. I was very clear on admission that any changes would have to be discussed and approved before they would go forward, and to date - nothing has been done at all as far as making changes. My kid has the new diagnosis for the DSM-V, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD), which does not respond to medication. It has features in common with ADHD, bipolar, schizophrenia, etc. but is NOT any of those. Tends to be comorbid with autism, but not in my kid's case. My kid has been in therapy since he was 5. He is currently 13. He was placed with us at 3.5 years of age, and did not emotionally mature past that age - until now. We are finally seeing some progress and emotional maturity coming online - but I hate every part of the process. Kid has been in residential treatment for nine months. That's what it takes. Our hope is that he will be able to transition into a NPS by the end of the year, but we have no illusions. This does not prevent regression, adult drug abuse, adult mental illness, any of that. Coming to grips with the reality of a mentally compromised child takes maturity on the part of the parents. Anything less and you will be smacked in the face when the illness shows up again outside the facility - and it will. Most of the facilities that treat these kids have grief counseling as a primary push for the parents, and this is why. Yes, I am in constant contact with staff - they like it, I do too and my kid does better for it. I have hundreds of hours of parenting training, I've gotten hundreds more since the kid arrived. This is a good choice under an IEP, and if you need help getting a placement like this one and don't know how to ask for it, tap me. I'll be happy to help. It's a terrible education to have, but worst if nobody else benefits from it.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed not just as guests, but as people in need of a safe, supportive space to breathe and regroup. The team at Jacob's House extended kindness that felt so genuine--it was as though they wrapped our family in a warm hug during a very heavy time. The home itself is peaceful and thoughtfully maintained, with every detail clearly designed to bring a sense of calm to families like ours. But beyond the physical comforts, what meant the most was the human kindness. The staff checked in on us, offered encouraging words, and created a space where we didn't feel so alone in our grief and uncertainty. It's rare to find a place that truly lives out its mission, but Jacob's House does just that. Their presence made a heartbreaking chapter in our lives just a little bit lighter, and we will always carry gratitude for the compassion they showed us. If you or a loved one are ever in need of a place to stay during a medical emergency in Temecula, know that Jacob's House is a sanctuary--one filled with heart, understanding, and hope.
