So I'm a yoga virgin and last night I had my cherry popped with hot yoga at DDY. Not sure if that was the smartest choice having NEVER done any type of yoga before, but hey, I'm always up for an adventure! I really had no idea what to expect, and it was definitely a unique experience. Pros: *Only $5 if you go to new instructor class times like I did - you can sign up online ahead of time or just register and pay once you get there (arrive early because class was pretty crowded) *Seemed like a wide variety of class times and styles of yoga *You get to use one of their mats for free if it's your first visit (after that I think they charge $2-$3 to rent) *It's definitely an incredible workout, and my entire body was literally drenched with sweat (not exaggerating) after the class was done. *The instructor was understanding and helped me try to modify some poses because I'm so inflexible *Clean studio and changing area *Awesome cold lavender washcloth at end of class - that felt so refreshing - not sure if this is standard at all studios or not Cons: *Being completely new, I felt a little lost without knowing what each pose meant so I had to watch those next to me and try to mimic what they did. A little embarrassing, but I guess you're expected to know these things before coming? *It was incredibly hot - with hot yoga that should be like "no, duh!" but the instructor didn't really pause for any collective water breaks (again, maybe that's frowned upon), but I had to drink my entire jug of water by the time class was over and felt like I was interrupting the flow a bit by doing so. I guess I just wasn't expecting not to be encouraged to hydrate in that kind of environment. *If I were to do it again, for the first time I'd definitely recommend a 30 minute or 15 minute class as an intro, as 1 hour in the heat was quite intense. Not sure if yoga is for me, but it definitely helped release some tension and was a nice change of pace from my normal exercise routine. read more

Absolutely the best! This place literally changed my life! When work gets tough, yoga! When there's relationship trouble, yoga! The community here is so unbelievably uplifting, that you'll find yourself returning over and over again! I started coming here during Covid, my company was going through a major change, and life was feeling a little overwhelming. I walked in the door, and first, just wanted to be better. The positive encouragement was nice and uplifting, but the more I started coming back, the more the message sunk in and really started to have an effect, not just on my mat, but in my daily life, too. I found my mood improving, no task was impossible, and yes, I can do hard things! I was so inspired that I took the plunge earlier this year, completed teacher training, and have started teaching here because I want to share this message with the world! What an amazing community! read more

Hot yoga ... If you like hot yoga, this is your place! I came here with a neighbor and I love yoga, but didn't realize this was hot yoga (my fault). So I probably won't return, but the instructor was great and the class was full so make sure to book your space if you want to go! read more

Great yoga studio! I was not the biggest fan of yoga a while ago. I had my first class here and I loved it! The studio is very intimate and clean. There is a nice aroma when you walk into the building. You have an immediate sense of relaxation when you walk in the building. Instructor was amazing. The instructor worked very well with beginners like me. I will definitely be going back! They have an amazing deal too $30 for 30 days read more

I love this studio, they have aerial and hot yoga. All of the instructors are incredible and offer their own unique style to their classes. There are various types of classes offered if you're looking for different challenges or something new to try. They even offer virtual classes with COVID. They were very adaptable when COVID originally shut everything down and they saved my life with not being able to go to the gym and workout. They offer a new student discount, $30 for 30 days so I definitely recommend trying them out! read more

Most friendly studio and community by far! You are encouraged to take each class to your own level because it's your practice. The cold lavender towel at the end of the class is simply divine! read more

This is the best yoga studio EVER! Lots of great teachers, class times that make sense for all ages, fitness levels, professions, and those with generally busy schedules. They also have multiple different class types so you can change it up. Almost no reason to skip a day with early morning, mid day, and evening classes, as well as fast, hot, slow, aerial, hiit, power, etc etc etc. You come for the yoga; you stay for the community, and this place has it. As a newbie I felt instantly welcomed and look forward to coming back. If traveling through or new to the area make sure you put this on your list! Baptiste yoga combines my favorite parts of Vinyasa and Bikram in that its great for cardio, strengthening, and stretching! It has already started to transform my body in just a few classes and am feeling healthier and happier! Oh boy did I luck out moving in the neighborhood and stumbling across this place! The studio is more up beat and can be wildly different than more meditative focused yoga studios so keep an open mind if it's your first time! read more

This was bar far the BEST yoga class I've ever taken. Earl set a steady, but intense, pace. He was interactive, and kept the class engaged. Usually when I take hot yoga classes the instructors shy away from helping me with posture (I assume because I sweat so much), but not Earl! He helped with my arm and hip placements to help me really feel the poses. This assistance allowed me to stick poses that I normally don't even try!! I felt stronger and more flexible than ever. PLUS they provide cold, lavender scented towels at the end to help relax you and bring your body temp down - classy touch!!! I'm in town for work or I'd buy a full membership. Either way - I'll be back for sure! read more

I have been going to DDY for over a year and have loved the experience. The staff is great and the atmosphere is fantastic. It is funny reading the other ratings as one suggest that it is to social and the other that the staff does not offer suggestions how to modify your poses, I could not disagree more. I have had a number of injuries and the staff always is willing to listen to my medical issues and make adjustments in my poses. As far as being to social and loud I would look into a different time slot because there are certainly times when it is very peaceful and easy to focus. Granted I was a newbie when I started, but I love everything that DDY has to offer! read more

I'm new to the area and have been trying to find a hot yoga place like my one back home. This is the closest I've found, but there are a few things that irk me, and I just can't decide whether to purchase a membership or not. I did the new member $30 for 30 days a few months ago. Pros: *Staff is super friendly and help you make modifications for more difficult poses *Teachers offered in-class corrections to your pose *Has power vinyasa which seems difficult to find around here *Has tons of class times from morning, noon, and evening *Nice cubby area *Has water fountain inside the practice room *Good gear selection Cons: *Room is soooo tiny. There is tape on the floor to suggest where to put your mat to allow maximum capacity. I always end up hitting a neighbor during class. *There aren't mirrors in the room. I like using mirrors to make adjustment to my poses. *Most classes don't have music. *The clientele is so chatty before class starts. I always like to have 15 minutes of quiet time before any class to center myself and prepare for practice. That's impossible here, with people continually having loud conversations until class starts. People sometimes cheer after the transition out of a difficult pose. People have also talked during savasana, and they clap at the end of class. This noisiness completely ruins the centering, anxiety-reduction effects of doing yoga, and this is the main reason why I am debating whether to purchase a membership. *There isn't a ton of parking. *There could be a more diverse selection of classes. read more

I love Dancing Dogs Yoga studio, the instructors are very soothing! It's a great practice. I am a full time college student and I don't go to school nearby. I would've liked to be able to purchase a short amount of class time (1 month or so). They don't have many options to work with. I understand they have a Business to run, but it's just really inconvenient. I was not paying $22 per class. Or however much for a longer period that I wouldn't even be able to optimize. read more

I have been doing hot yoga for 4 years and tried this studio several times. I did a 30 day special when I was new and have bought a few 5 card passes. Pros: Very good workout, Lavender Cool Towels, Always smells nice, have a shower, good parking. Cons: Tight Space, No variety, Expensive unless you are a member, instruction is minimal, modifications are usually for advanced yoga and not beginners, something about the atmosphere is unwelcoming. Overall the instructors are nice but I would call it a offish overall attitude. I hurt my shoulder one day and it was sore the next day. I discussed it with an instructor for a little bit, and got in the shower which has a 5 minute suggested limit. Try to put on clothes after an hour of hot yoga and a shower without strong exhaust in 5 minutes, I timed it and it was 8 minutes. Some girl who called herself an "Ambassador" stopped me and said, "I have not been able to get into the shower since you have been coming to class, the shower's intention is not that of a gym. It is just to rinse off". I used the rest of my passes and went down to shower at the Gym. I felt shamed. The girl could have gone before me if she needed to. Overall Dancing Dogs is Rushing you. If you enjoy being rushed through yoga and after, it is the place for you. They are not a "Yoga is for everyone" studio which in my opinion is not the yogi way. read more

Hot. Very hot. Be warned. There is sweat everywhere by the end. Also - there's no music played (a Baptiste thing). I've been to a bunch of classes here with various instructors. I don't think I'm a Baptiste yoga devotee. The instructors constantly say or yell things like "don't let the story creep into your head, REMEMBER YOUR INTENTION, push yourself to do more than that!!" Pretty much every class I have gone to, my intention has been to make it through the class. Nothing more than that. I find it frustrating to constantly be told that I need to be pushing myself harder. There are some days that I just don't have it in me. Also, teachers rarely mention pose variations for those with body issues. In fact, I hurt my back once when the instructor insisted I go up into wheel vs. bridge. And I have never heard an instructor at this studio say it's okay to go into child pose if needed. All in all, it's a little too intense for a yoga studio. And it seems a bit cultish. There do seem to be lots of people who love this place. If you're looking for Irving Park singles, head here! read more
