For starters, the windows and posters have seen their days that one might think that it is out of business, but it is in fact not and quite the opposite - tons of space inside! They have a variety of instruments and supplies, including a cleaning swab which I was looking for. And the plus is that they also offer music lessons in private rooms - even same day! I had an initial same-day oboe lesson with Phil, and we had great conversation. However, I have to admit that I didn't learn too much, and that we spent most of the time talking. The person working at the front was pretty chill, but paying for lessons wasn't very clear from the beginning - recommend being more specific with those. Their website is via Tumblr (?) which is a surprise. Lessons were $40 / session, and they recommend one session per week (but how long is a session?). Overall, I wish that there was more clarity on this side from time to payment the moment that we signed up. Parking was fairly easy to find on the street or in the lot in the back. However, do note that parking on the street is via metered parking and not free most hours. Return? Potentially for some music books!

I bought a vintage wurlitzer electric piano for $7k with the promise that it would be restored. I…read morewas told it would look great, sound great, and play great. The restoration took 6 months longer than it was supposed to. When it was delivered, it did look fabulous, but it was the worst playing piano I've ever touched. Some notes didn't even sound. He came over to fix it, but after making adjustments, failed to get the piano playable. He told me that was the best he could do and couldn't improve the piano any further. So now I have a $7k piano that can't be played or sold. After a few months of occasionally playing the piano, a new problem has manifested. Some of the reeds are going flat. I've been on a waiting list to get it set up by a wurlitzer specialist and I finally got an appointment. He played the piano and says he can fix it but the reason that some of the reeds are going flat is because they are worn out and need to be replaced. If they were worn out, why weren't they fixed when I paid CVKs $7k dollars to FIX THE PIANO? So now I'm paying another keyboard repairman $1.5k to fix work that CVKs failed to fix. I'm sick over the $8.5k I've spent on this piano and the $7k I gave to CVKs. They strung me along for a year on a money pit and wouldn't stand behind their work. I took a chance on a beautiful piano and put my trust in the wrong business.

And what that means is... he is patient, personable, listens carefully, wants to know what you want from your guitar, discusses options with you, makes suggestions. He does what YOU want to do. And he doesn't rush stuff. He carefully tags it and he's honest with you about how long the work will take and he gives you options if you want it faster. And if something goes wonky later on after you get your guitar back and play it a while, or you have some additional preference after you pick up your guitar, he invites you to bring it back. Maybe you want something adjusted a little bit differently. Maybe the neck settles a little bit after set up even though he gave it a couple days to settle before he turned it over to you. Who knows. It's your pleasure. And his delight to help you. And when you pop back in, he'll take a look at your guitar and, if you can wait a few minutes, he'll tweak it or zap it and hand it right back to you faster than you could get an In-N-Out Burger drive-thru. I wish I had more guitars to bring to him. And that wouldn't be for repairs, although I would love him to do repairs, but that would be for upgrades and custom work and enhancements. The door was locked but they were open so I waited for the associate to open the door. He asked if I had an appointment and I said no I was walking by and want to see what they have. He asked me while standing in the doorway if I was going to buy something. I was confused and have never been asked that before i've even walked in a store. I said I'm not sure yet but maybe, I'm going to look to see what you have. He said if you aren't buying then we are only open if you have an appointment. Such a strange interaction to an otherwise pleasant day, I can't imagine how much rent is for this space but if a customer on a busy part of Ventura is interested in your inventory, maybe let the associate know he should let them shop.

I went in, got hot black coffee & a Blueberry Muffin. Before realizing it, it was 11 am. So I mozied'on'over to NORMAN's. Jack is a total nerd in the best possible way. It's clear he absolutely loves guitars and has very…read morehigh standards for his work. He has worked on three of my guitars recently and he has done a great job on all of them. The first one I gave him was a Fender Jazzmaster, and if you know offset guitars, you know they can be finicky. Since getting it back from him, guitar has never felt more solid. He solved problems that I've had other luthiers try to solve for years, and he got it right on the first try. I would say guitar wiring seems to be his specialty. He also worked on a couple of acoustic guitars for me and they are much more enjoyable to play now, and I feel confident I can rely on all these guitars for any gigs or tours I'll take them on.
