You have to try Belgium waffles while in Belgium, obviously. Servers were friendly but forgot about a few of our dishes. We waited forever until everyone got their food. We sat outside during a rainy day but the restaurant itself seemed classic with a wooden rustic vibe.

The rabbit meat was surprisingly tender and the stew/sauce added some nice flavor. For those who haven't had rabbit before, it takes kind of like chicken to be honest, just with smaller bones. I think the price was okay considering the quality and type of dish. The fresh grapefruit juice (€5.80) was very good too. The staff are very friendly, helpful, and attentive. I was seated right away and the service speed was pretty quick. They have a decently sized indoor space as well as outdoor patio seating. The environment has a traditional Belgian restaurant/pub kind of vibe. Overall, Le Bistro has high quality traditional Belgian food in a pleasant setting and I would definitely recommend it if you are in the area near Porte de Hal / Marollen.

But they do their best to seat as many people as possible. I got in fairly quickly because i was alone. The food was fantastic. I had the Carbonade a la Biere, and it was so great! Like a beef stew and very tasty. Also had some good Belgian beer. Service was attentive and very fast. The restaurant is lively and exciting - not really a quiet romantic dinner. But a lot of fun!

If you want to try Belgian food with reasonable prices then this was one good option in Brussels…read more I arrived early for Friday night dinner and the restaurant was just over half full with lots of available seating. While the register states No Cards one of the servers told the table next to mine not worry when they didn't have enough euros. Only a drink menu was provided and the dishes being served that day were handwritten on moveable boards or posted on the wall. I had on my list a couple to try but finally went with the Belgian carbonades à la biere which was beef stew with mashed potatoes in a dark gravy made with beer. The plate was quite generous and much appreciated since I devoured it. I enjoyed the creaminess of the potatoes swirled with gravy but the meat could've been a tad bit more tender. Service was good. I think everyone on the floor stopped by my table for one reason or the other. Ambiance was casual and looked like many people were taking their time over their meals. When finished you need head to the register to settle the tab. I paid in cash. Worth a return visit.

For Brussels, the guys from Veranda recommended this. Driving through an open market and all types of traffic. I finally got to the neighborhood and walked across the square to the place. Anderlecht is an interesting suburb outside of Brussels. It's a bit gritty and bustling, somewhat like the Mission is in San Francisco. The space is divided into two rooms, one with a bar and one where the kitchen is. I sat near the kitchen to see all the action. Looking at the menu, it's full of classics. Got the steak au poivre with the recommended fries. Holy cow the food is good. Perfectly cooked steak, beautifully silky/peppery sauce and outstanding fries. I cleaned the plate and wished i had the appetite of another. I wish i could import the place to SF. The crew that work here are super friendly, and with my poor French we were able to still chat and have a good mix of conversations. Even though i was eating late, a slew of large parties came in after and the place got really bustling. Even though the rooms are classic bistro, i was surprised by a very modern upstairs. Certainly a very cool place all around. If youre in Brussels and want some classic bistro fare, make your way to Anderlecht and hit this place up.

The entire menu is in French and the staff here don't speak much English so it's a bit tough to order. We just went with steak and mushroom sauce. The horse-steak which was their specialty so we had to order one. Horse tastes a lot like beef, slightly more gamey but just as good.

They had a kid's menu which featured one of my son's favorites, spaghetti Bolognese and of the 4 versions of this dish he ate over the course of this trip he and I both agreed this was the best. What can I say? My kid is a creature of habit. They also had apple juice and this made him happy as well. I seriously thought about getting a croque monsieur as I absolutely love them, but it was our last day in Belgium and I had yet to experience the famous Flemish beef stew so that is what I ordered. It was a large serving of beef in a delicious beer based au jus served with a side of fries. I really enjoyed it. Some pieces of beef were more tender than others, but isn't that how it always goes with a stew? My husband had their house mussels and he said the sauce was so good. Again, the portion was large and he really enjoyed his mussels in Brussels. Overall, it was a solid pick that satisfied our need to try signature Belgian dishes and our son's desire to stick with food he is familiar with. Prices were reasonable enough and portions were large. Every left happy and full.
