Great park to visit on a road trip with kids (or without). Play structures and a paved trail that's just under a mile to stretch out your legs and get the blood flow back. Only down side is the amount of animal poop...lots of goose poop. Still a beautiful park with clean bathrooms.

We love to walk or ride around the lake... Bring the dog and a picnic. Hike the hills above or find a geocache!

The OG flagship park for Medford. Gone is the huge wooden play structure we grew up on where battle…read morewounds were earned from hitting your head running up and down the labyrinth of stairs and hiding spots. Gone are the onslaught of splinters, burns from the hot metal slides and being attacked by the countless wasps hiding in the nooks, crannies and roof peaks. Even back then, this was the park to go to! Fast forward to a recent refresh, the playground is still sprawling and super diverse, something for everyone! Wood has been replaced by plastic and metal but the laughter of kids as they run wild is still here. The only downside is maybe the lack of parking, but on hot summer days you'll find the ice cream truck posted up in the lot closest to the playground. What I really love about this park is that's it's more than just a playground. The greenway cuts through it making bike riding an awesome option. Keeping in that theme, there's a BMX style dirt track with whoops, table tops and fat banks and burms. A comprehensive skateboard park, tennis courts, a huge open grassy area, covered seating for parties and a large dog park round out this sprawling Medford classic.

My 4-year-old was sad that she couldn't play bear; hopefully the bear house will be replaced. If you choose to give a thumbs-up or not, I hope you found my review helpful!

Pluto's Cave - Mount Shasta behind the Pluto's Cave sign

DIRECTIONS: Don't rely on your GPS to guide you here. I plugged Pluto's Cave into Google Maps and…read moreit led us down all these eerie gravel roads (there were private properties along the way but we couldn't figure out if they were residential or commercial; didn't see any humans). It was uncomfortable. In the end, it led us to the wrong side of the cave. You are better off looking at Google Maps and just following it manually. It clearly shows where the road to the trailhead is. You take A12 and then you'll see a small sign for Pluto's Cave where you turn onto 43N30. That'll take you to the trailhead. If you want something to plug into the GPS, use Juniper Flat OHV Area which is less than a mile away. Once you make that turn from A12, you'll see an official sign for Pluto's Cave. The parking area wasn't really much but there was only one other car so we managed to squeeze in. OTHER TIPS: ~Bring at least two sources of light. One back-up is generally recommended so you have something else in case your primary source of light dies. In my experience here, I'd recommend bringing a headlamp (mine was garbage so try to get a good one) as well as a flashlight. The thing is, there are some areas in the cave where you have to climb boulders and the terrain isn't flat. Your headlamp isn't lighting up the area where you are stepping unless you look down. Then it won't light up the area in front of you. Ideally, you'd want to use the headlamp to illuminate the space in front of you and point the flashlight at your feet. This may be a major DUH to regular cave explorers but this was my first cave. At the start of the cave area, you actually have some light where the ceiling has collapsed. It almost looks like a small cave but you want to keep moving forward as the cave continues. Eventually though, you reach an area with boulders that you climb to look around the bend. After that, it's DARKNESS. Not sure how far the cave actually continues....eek. I didn't want to risk it with poor/minimal lighting so I didn't go any further. ~Good shoes, obviously. ~Be aware that there are bats in here. Leave them alone. They shouldn't bother you. Don't bother them. This is their home. Also, they carry diseases. ~The trail from the trailhead to the cave is short but not well marked. Beware of rattlesnakes, per the sign. Overall, this is a pretty cool experience but spooky as heck. At least for me. There is a lot of graffiti on the walls which doesn't help. I went with my boyfriend and we didn't see any other people until we were headed back and already out of the cave. If I were to go back, I'd prefer to do it with a larger group.

I would not consider putting Pluto's cave on your bucket list, but if you are in the area it is a…read morecool place to check out. It is not really a place you want to take the kids, more like a place for people with no children that want to experience a spooky experience. The caves are definitely filled with human negative energy. We did not stay long, we just checked them out from a distance, but did not go actually in to the deeper section. This is more like for a group of 3 or more.

Klamath National Forest - One mile lake sunset - marble mountains

I've been to three different wilderness area within the Klamath, and each has their own advantages and disadvantages. Marble mountains wilderness: The marble mountains are really nice. I hiked the monument lake trail this past summer, and it is one of my favorites. Despite it being 4th of July weekend, we only encountered one other person on the trail, and often times had entire lakes to our self. We went to Monument lake, one mile lake, and cuddihy lakes. Monument was by far the best, cuddihy was nice, but one mile wasn't worth visiting in my opinion. The water is warm and there's a ton of stuff growing at the bottom of the lake. Fishing is nice at all three lakes. There is a lot of wildlife at the marble mountains as well. I saw elk, deer, chipmunks, a black bear on the access road, and plenty of insects Trinity alps: Came here in fall of 2025 for a short one night backpacking trip on the canyon creeks trail. The trails here were pretty crowded, but it had great views and amazing camping sites. If you hike this specific trail, I'd recommend camping below the lake instead of on it, as it is very cold, windy, and rocky near the lake. Unfortunately, didn't catch any fish here. Russian wilderness: Went here this past Labor Day weekend, and it was my favorites! We did the duck lake trail for two nights, which isn't too hard of hike. It was moderately crowded, but it wasn't like you couldn't find a campsite. Not as much wildlife here, although that may be season dependent. We also took the trail up to horseshoe lake, which is a worthwhile hike, horseshoe had the best fishing by far, I caught at least a dozen fish. Also, horseshoe wasn't as corded as the lower duck lakes, which was nice. The Klamath is a great place to camp/backpack in NorCal!

The dense woods is truly magnificent with skyhigh trees, rivers, gorges and creeks. When traveling, keep in mind cell phone doesn't work in most parts. Verizon has best reception then T-mobile. Boost, Metro and any other won't work at all. Carry enough food and gas cause services are limited unless you are on the 101 or 5. Safe travelings. IG: cigarcpa
