We moved to Greenville in 1976 and it was just about that time that Fowler's started carrying sunglasses and it was also just about that time that I got my driver's license for the first time. Ever since then, Fowler's has been the place to go for sunglasses. So much so, that I never even noticed if they sold comics or pocket knives too. There are hundreds of choices and price ranges. My son, who just recently got his driver's license for the first time, came here and spent around $150 in birthday money getting some Ray-Bans (one pair) while I was able to buy three for $25 of no-name polarized, different style sunglasses. Yes, three pair for $25. We both left the building with the sun blocked from our eyes, and I thought mine looked every bit as cool as his. Something for everyone and a home town institution for around 60 years. Oh yeah, they still have a pharmacy too.

We were right on Lauren's Road, so I thought I'd stop in again, as I saw large Ray-Ban signs on the building. It seemed that I remembered Fowler's having good prices back in the day, but this time, they were actually more expensive than the Ray-Ban site. Ray-Ban had specials on their most popular sunglasses on their site for Labor Day. Fowler's had a discount case, but I didn't see any specials on their better supplies. They definitely have the great products, and they know their products, so if you're looking for convenience, Fowler's will be a good place to shop.

The office is new and we'll maintained. Overall, I had a good experience there. At previous eye doctors I have been to, I have felt pressured mid exam to get more thorough eye imaging tests done. Here they give you a form about some optional tests and whether you want your eyes dilated right when you come in. I enjoyed this low pressure approach. I also appreciated that it had clear pricing options listed on the form. There was also low pressure about purchasing contacts or glasses from them. I could easily leave with a copy of my prescription. I did not check their glasses this time, but their contact lenses prices were reasonable.

This is a specialty, large-diameter, rigid gas permeable contact lens that rests only on the white part of your eye, the sclera. Designed to vault over the entire corne­al surface and rest on the sclera, the scleral lenses can morph an irregular cornea into a smooth optical surface to correct vision problems caused by keratoconus and other forms of corneal irregularity. The space between the cornea and the back of the scleral lens acts as a fluid reservoir, continuously bathing the cornea. This can provide for a more comfortable fitting. So it was important for me to find a specialist who could properly fit this type of lens. Thankfully, Dr. Joe is just the person to do this! He was able to correct my vision significantly so that I am near 20/20 corrected vision using scleral lenses in both eyes. It is a bit of trial and error to get the right fit, so it takes a few appointments and patience to get there. The practice was really good with the scheduling for the 4 or so appointments it took to get the fit. Each lense is specially made, so they must be ordered and shipped and then fitted. I was very pleased with the service and care provided by Hopkins Eye Center and highly recommend them.
