We've seen the billboard on Hwy 421 in Wilkes County advertising H.G. Greene Store, but today was the first time we've actually visited. The store sits at a crossroads and it looks like it's been here quite a while. When we entered a few locals were at the check out counter passing the time, discussing the news and welfare of other locals, it seemed. They all turned in our direction and greeted us before continuing to chat with each other. The store carried some fresh produce, snacks, canned goods, spices, household items of various sorts, Case knives, boots, jeans, outdoor wear, including Carhartt and other popular outfitting brands. Oh, and lottery tickets and ice cream. The employees were very nice to us. There were numerous choices of Mayfair ice cream to choose from, and Roy and I each got a cup of ice cream. A scoop of black cherry and a scoop of butter pecan. They invited us to come back any time, and I think we will. read more
