Nice place! - I had a few books to get rid of and didn't want to just toss them out (they were too nice for that), so I decided to do a little online search for a nearby used bookstore. I was pleased to find GreenBooks just a couple of miles from my home so ventured over there to check it out. What a pleasant surprise - I buy and read quite a lot (old, retired guy), so was eager to explore the shop. For a relatively small store, they have an incredible number of books packed in there. They have a nice variety covering a wide spectrum of subjects from fiction thru all kinds of non-fiction - recent best sellers, law, romance, history, DIY, auto repair, gardening, golf, etc. There is probably something there for everyone. The woman (manager / owner?) who waited on me was very helpful and the store's resident cat is a lovely, friendly girl. Though I'm not much of a browser, which generally takes me to online dealers to buy mine, this is a place made for browsing and probably a fun place for readers to spend a couple of hours. read more

Great little used bookstore, packed to the brim. I'm not sure which of the two individuals I usually see there, the man or the woman, is the owner or if they're married or siblings or something, but they are both knowledgeable. This owner bought Hook's Books years ago and moved over here to this MUCH cleaner and better location. $1 for all books big or small, hardback or paperback. That's pretty damn cool. One thing I've experienced when going to some used bookstores is the latent judgment on everything I buy; an example would be the older lady who previously owned Hook's would say, every time I bought something sci-fi or fantasy related, "Oh, you're the one who buys that weird stuff," to which my fantasy response is "well I could easily just get this online and then you'll get nothing, is that what you want?" Not so here. The guy yesterday looked at one of my books, a Star Trek: Voyager novel (it's an addiction, okay? I'm not proud of it) and engaged me in a discussion about Star Trek (as a fan!) Cool! I am amending this review as I received a lovely comment response from Grace, the owner. I had previously mentioned the occasional difficulty with alphabetical order in the store and she admitted that while the store is in "rough" alphabetical order, they are always willing to help. I must say that I have seldom ASKED for help due to an odd possessiveness that I have over book-shopping - but I think that will change, as I believe them to be competent and extremely helpful people. I would also like to say that in reading Grace's responses to other posters, I have an extra appreciation for them given their stated goal: to promote reading in our local community. I am an English teacher and nothing could bring me greater satisfaction than to see a business which holds literacy not only as a vague ideal but as a stated one and something of a mission statement. I just moved to the area a little over 9 months ago and have been desperately searching for a decent used book store, and I cant even begin to explain my happiness that I've finally found one as amazing as this place. First off, EVERY DAMN BOOK IS A DOLLAR. Secondly, they have a majestic kitty that hangs out that let's you play with her. And thirdly, the guy who helped me, I think he said his name was Christian, was FANTASTIC. He gave me so many recommendations and helped me pick out a crap ton of books (literally I bought 20 books) Plus, they give you a free book for every 10 you buy so I got 22 books for $20 plus some tax.. so yeah. needless to say I was extremely happy and will be going back quite often. read more

I love this store. They have some amazing books here, and for very cheap! Every time I leave this place, I leave with a stack of books. They have even bought some old books of mine that I no longer wanted, so it's a win-win situation. The staff here has always been super polite and helpful, they make it easier to navigate the ocean of books they have. If you're a fan of reading or books in general, green books is a must stop location for you. Highly recommended. read more

If you are looking to get cheap books it's good but if your looking for any good books for your teenagers or kids don't bother going! For any of the teen novels, kid novels, or western novels you must bring in books to trade them and pay for the books you would like! This is because people are buying to many of the books and donating them to schools so the kids can read them. I know so bad right like we should really buy books for children to read. If you want to support what there doing be my guest but personally I believe It is a waist of time to go there and try to get books that they will later tell you that you can't even buy. read more

Gentleman that runs the store is very knowledgeable. Be prepared to take a little time to look as books are somewhat alphabetical.

I'm totally blown away by the look, feel, and quality of this bookstore. I stopped into Hook's Books a few years ago and it was just okay. Their non-fiction section was nothing special and I didn't find any books. When I stopped in at GreenBooks I was expecting more of the same. Instead, I found a well organized store with great selection and insane prices. My friend found two books on trains that he picked up for his collection. I found some technical engineering books (hooray!) along with California history and biographies. We pulled 18 books from their shelves and then we chuckled when the girl at the counter informed us that 1 was free. The only bad note about the store is its location out in Apple Valley. The closing of Book Oasis makes this the only store in the area and it's hard to justify a long haul from Los Angeles for just one store. read more

Love this bookstore, they have a big selection of books. I found lots of James Patterson books and even some cookbooks. You get a punch card and your 10th book is free! The staff is very helpful and friendly, including Piper the cute cat. read more

Wandered in here for the first time yesterday and my desert life is now complete! We were greeted by a friendly woman who explained the set up of the shop to us and let us explore. All of the books were a $1 and I found some old favorites plus a few new books too. They even have a punch card reward program! I will be back! read more

Recently went back into GreenBooks, I have been shopping there since they have opened by the Meat store. There was a man that was behind the counter that day. I was browsing the books and I could hear him telling everyone the books had gone up to $2.00, I thought ok, everything goes up. I made my selections and took them to the counter, he said to me my books would be 3.00, I was taken back. I asked where it was posted, he claimed there was a sign by the books, I never saw any sign, I would have never picked up 8 books. I returned a couple, and I was going to continue with the purchase. I remembered I had these little green cards with punches on them. I took them out, he said they do not do those now. Ok, he did take one of my cards but told me I have to come back to redeem the other ones. I said I have 10 punches on the 2 remaining cards, no would not take them that day. Why should I continue carrying these cards around if there is no program now, no expiration date either. He should have let me redeem the cards for a book and charge me the same as the other customers, I would have been a happy customer, no, now I will toss the cards and never step foot in there again. The cost to him was probably .50, compared to the $ 20 I spend every time I go there. Bad customer service! read more
