I had heard through co-workers that Dr. Gulde was wonderful and was relieved to find that he accepted my plan. The sweet woman who answered the phone got me in the same day as "an emergency". I expected to wait, but they didn't make me wait for long. She even had my insurance worked out before I even got there! My last office ALWAYS messed up my insurance. Either way, athough they had other patients, they made sure I was seen promptly. The genuine respect for my fears and desire by him to make this a "pleasant" experience amazed me. The Dr. and his sweet assistant (I think her name was Pamela?), took care of me that day and made sure I walked out with a gorgeous smile. I was surprised I wasn't even in pain, once the numbness wore off. Dr. Gulde explained every step of the procedure so I knew exactly what to expect, putting my mind at ease, and they did not pressure me to start anything until all of my questions were answered. I never thought I would say, but the experience was actually a pleasure. I would suggest anyone who is scared of dentist, or who has had a bad experience (like I have) to give this office a try. My hygienist was great and I can continue with her for cleanings. Prices were reasonable compared to what my friends said it cost them for the same work they had done at their dentist as I had done. The treatment areas are very modern, scrupulously clean and well designed. The treatment chair the hygienist used had a back massage feature that was a pleasant surprise and made the cleaning less stressful. Not only was original Prognosis not fully accurate, the cost would have been 1,000% higher than I ended up paying. My insurance was a "high" plan with United Concordia. My wife and I had periodic maintenance in May and June, 2024 with no issues. In October 2024 I received an email saying I had a past-due bill of approximately $90. Since I had no outstanding bills I printed the email and went to the office to check it out. I was told there had been a "price increase" that wasn't applied to the last two visits. Since it had been so long they would waive the bill since I was a "valued customer" but price increases would apply to future visits. My wife's next visit was that afternoon. Her bill was significantly higher than what had been normal but I had been told to expect that. Three days later I got an Explanation of Benefits from United Concordia. It outlined the treatment for my wife and stated that we had paid the "out of network" price. I had always been "in-network" so I called United Concordia. They said Dr. Hazen had dropped out their network on 1 May 2024. Dr. Hazen's staff didn't tell me that, just that there had been a "price increase." A few days later I got an email bill for another $80 for my wife's visit. I went in and was told they had expected a particular procedure to be paid for by insurance but wasn't. I paid the additional bill and cancelled my November appointment so I could review my dental insurance options during my upcoming open season. When open season arrived I went in to Dr. Hazen's office and asked for which companies they were "in network." They told me United Healthcare. I changed my insurance to United Healthcare and rescheduled my November appointment for January 9, 2025. When I arrived I gave the receptionist my new insurance card and said I wanted to verify I was "in network" before my appointment began. The insurance coordinator came out and spun a story about how they were in network with some United Healthcare plans - but not mine, despite what they told me earlier. That was it. I'm done with Dr. Hazen. Her business practices and customer relations are abysmal. Insurance plans seem to be some classified subject about which they won't give you a straight answer. Time to find a new dentist.
