They have award-winning sausages made on site, and also cure their own bacon, and make up their own beef burgers. There's a variety of stuffed or marinated meat, good for the bbq in the summer or for roasting in the winter. They make sausage rolls and pasties, and it's pretty hard to resist when you walk by and smell that baking! They were happy to give me bones for a dog for no charge. Anything you want, they'll get in for you. There's a small selection of produce and chutneys, and some meat bagged up for the freezer. Oh, and there's cheese and ham, too. I may just start sleeping on the floor. And if you go in and say what you're making, they'll give you the right cut of meat and the right size, and then tell you how long to cook it. I think one of these days, they'll just follow me home and cook it up for me. The downside? It's expensive. But you're paying for quality and expertise, which you just don't get at a supermarket. They're open seven days a week, too.

I went in last night and there was one person already being served - the butcher had tenderised a piece of beef to order and was in the process of cutting it into strips for her. But that didn't mean I had to wait, as he called his colleague out from the back who was happy to assist. I was very pleased with both the service and the quality of the steaks I purchased. I'm a semi-regular here, although I tend to shop here more in the summer when buying for barbecues etc as they have a good range. They also make their own sausages - the pinner porker is great, and they even make pies, pasties and scotch eggs.

The staff is always friendly, service is quick, prices are reasonable, and everything I have ever purchased there has been amazing. On top of all this, the staff is super knowledgeable. 9 out of 10 times I go in I have no shopping agenda. Not only can they recommend what's hot, but they can also tell you how best to cook it (and they have been right 100% of the time thus far). Highly recommend!

This is a meat lover's paradise…read more And yes, it smells of clean butchery, so probably not a spot to bring anyone squeamish about seeing the actual animal parts you're eating (which, to be honest, you should!). Keyword: clean. And, actually, in a strange way, really vivid and beautiful-- bright red, healthy looking cuts in a minimally decorated 'farmhouse-chic' (if that's a thing) space with a metal chain door curtain. The guys behind the counter are clearly career butchers, dedicated to their craft, and very knowledgeable. If you don't see something you need, ask. They'll more than likely have it in the back. I may be a poor student, but if I am going to drop real money on any aspect of my home cooking, it will be the meat. And I think the Ginger Pig is worth every extra pence it costs in both flavour and happy cow/pig/duck karma-points (plus supporting a really special local business). I also highly recommend their cook book.

I really enjoyed their passion as they described their fare. Here's what you should know: - they are only open to the public for a small window of time each week - nothing is frozen or pre-packaged in plastic - for special orders, you might want to order in advance. I'm guessing these guys will try and accommodate any request, but they simply might not be able to do so if you show up on the day with a massive order of something only you might want. - there's nothing being cooked to eat there. In other words, it's not like Borough market where you can look at raw meat and order a sausage roll in the same vicinity. In other words, don't come here with the intention of having lunch or grabbing some things you'll want to carry around for a day. Rather, come here with the intent to shop for food you'll want to take home and store. It's worth it. This is really great fare. And to help in this cause, there are other purveyors of basic ingredients in the same complex, from veggies to bread to cheese. And there's a beer place next door where you can, in fact, consume some consumables right there. Hoppy to it.
