I dropped into Green Tea for dinner last night after meaning to for several months. It's always looked great when I've walked past it before so the anticipation was high. I'm sorry to say that the experience didn't live up to expectations. The indoor and outdoor seating is well arranged to avoid overcrowding and the restaurant itself is relatively new and very clean. Our entrée of steamed dim sims could have been hotter, but was satisfactory. My main meal of Caramelized Fish Clay Pot was delicious, and I'd order it again in a heartbeat. The rest of the food, however, was a little disappointing. My dining companion's chicken stirfry wasn't as flavoursome as it looked, and our shared side of a mixed vegetable stirfry was the biggest surprise of the night. At a first glance, something looked a little out of place and we soon realised this was the piece of raw meat that had somehow ended up on the plate. What the? The vegies were nicely cooked but for a vegetarian dish (or any dish for that matter) that was pretty unappetizing. Our meals also came out about 10 minutes apart, which meant that mine was cooling off by the time the second dish arrived. Good service, nicely set out restaurant, but we won't be going back any time soon.

Green Tea is one of those great restaurants that defines the term "cheap and cheerful". Being smack bang in the middle of Chinatown mall, Green Tea is always busy, therefore it's wise to make a booking. With plenty of seating space it's also fantastic if you're needing a restaurant which accommodates for a big group of people. On my most recent visit I was dining with 15 colleagues. Normally even the thought of organising 15 people in a restaurant is a headache but Green Tea had it sorted. Their staff are obviously used to catering to groups. The menu is mixture of lot of simple asian dishes, made with fresh ingredients. We ordered the prawn toast, curry puffs and rice paper rolls to start and they came out promptly. The prawn toast and rice paper rolls in particular were delicious, especially with the yummy dipping sauce which came on the side. For mains I ordered the Moreton Bay Bugs in a chili sauce. To give you an idea of the reasonable prices, it was the most expensive item on the menu at a mere $25. The portions were super generous too. Two whole bugs came out on the plate and it was delicious! The only problem I had was that the chili sauce wasn't all that spicy, but a ramekin of fresh chili soon sorted that issue out. Overall the food was fantastic and there's really nothing to complain about with the prices paid for it. Due to the fact that Green Tea is always so full and popular, it has a bit of a rushed feel to it. There's a "get them in, get them out" vibe that I couldn't shake whilst dining there, which is a shame because the food is great and it would have been nice to linger. Otherwise I really don't have any complaints about this little asian kitchen. If you are pressed for cash or just want an honest, cheap meal, then head to Green Tea in the Valley (after you've made your booking, of course).

The general rule of thumb is that when you find an awesome fish and chip shop, you stick to it. I…read morecan tell you that my attachment to my local fish and chippery, Fish's in Teneriffe, might be a little unhealthy. And not just in the beer-battered kind of a way. It has gotten to a point where I turn my nose up and any other option for the combination of potatoes and barramundi. Now that's good fish and chips! Although I usually indulge in the takeaway variety, Fish's is also a restaurant and has a relaxed, family atmosphere. Along with the usual fish and chips, there are burgers, seafood platters, meals, mussels, oysters, prawns and calamari also on offer. If it comes from the ocean, chances are Fish's have it! And it's as fresh as fresh can be. If you are looking for somewhere to get excellent fresh prawns for Christmas or a BBQ, theirs come highly recommended by me! As does the cajun fish. I veered away from crumbed fish a little while ago and lashed out with the cajun (a big deal considering I'm a creature of habit) and it is awesome! For reasonable prices, Fish's offer huge portions of (in my opinion) the best fish and chips in Brisbane. The wait is never long and the food is fresh and delicious. Get to Teneriffe for a taste!

When we walked up to the greeter she asked, "what do you want." I looked around to see if she was talking to someone else. There was no one else. And then I thought maybe she confused me for someone she knew. That was not the case either. I said, "This is a restaurant, isn't it?" And then my husband tried to defuse the tension by making a joke about turtles eating jellyfish. It was all just awkward and weird, but she was just the greeter, and we sat and ordered drinks and a pre-dinner appetizer. The waiter was not a particularly happy person either, so after the app, we paid our bill and went to another restaurant for dinner. Every place can have a bad day, and when staff is fighting with each other they can take it out on everyone else, but OMG, the service we received here was awful. P.S. That appetizer was good.

So my family and I weren't too sure if it was worth going back there for the seafood platter if not for these vouchers we printed out via the social living website. The prices are very up there for what you see, but the fair is good... I guess that's what you want! Fresh fish, calamari and prawns. It's a very popular joint, I saw most of the tables fill up, and I asked the owner if it was a busy day, and she did point out to me that they were also all voucher people. Many of the regulars tend to get the bucket of prawns to share... but on a hot summers day... not really that great to sit at such a fancy shopping arena at a daggy looking seafood takeaway. While seated, we repeatedly asked where our food was, as it took over 90 minutes to arrive, and our sides never came at all. The table next to us was also missing their sides. Despite us raising these concerns, the woman in charge never came to our table directly, instead, a waitress was sent back and forth relaying messages, which was incredibly frustrating and completely unprofessional. After we finally finished eating, staff did take away a few items from the bill, but for the long wait and the amount of food we never received, including crab, rice, and other items, it still wasn't worth what we were being charged. We tried to calmly work through the bill at the counter, pointing out what we hadn't received, but some items were still left on the bill. We went back and forth for at least five minutes just trying to get the final snow crab (which never came) removed from the bill. Instead of resolving the issue, the woman in charge told us she had been instructed over the phone by another manager to call the police, simply because we were trying to explain what was missing and make sure we were only charged for what we got. The situation was handled with zero professionalism and absolutely no attempt to de-escalate. And to make matters worse, we had brought THREE packets of birthday candles, and all of them were used on other people's cakes for other tables. While at the counter, I saw one of our candles in a cake in the back room, and when I asked about it, the staff member pulled it out of that cake and tried to hand it back to me. Completely unacceptable and unhygienic. What was supposed to be a fun birthday celebration turned into a frustrating, stressful, and embarrassing experience. Between the delays, missing food, poor communication, and the unnecessary involvement of the police over one missing item, this was by far the worst dining experience I've ever had. I absolutely would not recommend this place to anyone. They need serious training in communication, customer service, and basic hygiene.

The choices are really quite meager, as we found a few places scattered around, but none that seemed to be particularly popular. Since we decided yum cha was what we wanted, we decided that we wouldn't set our expectations very high, and just go for the best one we could find [with best being most convenient and decent]. Our search landed us in the center of Chinatown in the Valley, at King of Kings Seafood, a place pretty much the epitome of Chinese restaurants - with the live fish and the big round tables. When we got there at about 1pm, it was actually rather packed. There were groups of families - both Asian and non [I mention this because it may just as well be a gauge to how authentic a restaurant is], and the place remained busy even as we were leaving since the place serves dim sum till late. Also, because there were constantly diners coming in and out, some of the yum cha that was being reeled around was pretty fresh! The food was as expected - decent - but not great. Everything was very standard, and the cha siu pastry was not too bad, but I don't recommend the taro cake (?-), which was way too dry and didn't taste much like taro. The duck that we had was also a bit dry, which disappointed me, since duck is a very forgiving meat. Overall, it was not a bad experience, and the waitresses were very friendly, but it was a bit pricey. We got quite a bit of food and were filled to the brim, but it was a bit over $20 for each of us - and I don't know if I can get used to restaurants here charging for tea per person.
