Sadly this Post Office has recently been closed down, which is a great shame for the area. A lot of…read morethe smaller post offices in the region seem to be losing out due to cutbacks by the government and it is often those who do not have a voice (elderly, disabled, local people) who end up suffering. I have heard many elderly people at the Keppel Street branch complaining about this shut down as they now have to travel into the centre of South Shields to collect their pensions, which is an added inconvenience for them and costs extra if you have having to pay busfare or taxi charges to get you there!
