We met several of the makers and growers of the goods. They served us delicious cheeses, sweets, and local wine/ciders. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The vibe was local and friendly. I can't wait to go back to grocery shop. So many great locally made items like Botany Babe lip balm, beautiful earrings, aprons, jams, and so many other things! Doe-eyed cows look at you as you pass, grazing in the nearby pasture. All in all, this is a beautiful nature trail to walk. It is easy to access, well-maintained, and has lots of signage to educate you about the surrounding area. It is not a loop trail, so be prepared to double back once you reach the end. Sadly, they do not allow dogs, which is my only qualm. Then again, since it's a nature reserve, this is understandable. The trail itself is flat and wide, making it easy to access. I would recommend bringing sunscreen and mosquito repellent, however as the tall grass in the area most certainly harbors tiny, winged vampires. However, the views of the old pastureland are breathtaking. The trail itself runs parallel to the slough, so it's good to have a camera at the ready for some shots of the riparian side. Stop in and get some local honey or goat's milk soap at the country store on the way out. It's good for treating oneself for having lugged one's butt off the couch to walk in nature.

A lot of work has been done to return the wetlands to their former state, and it shows. The rebuilt barn and active garden is also a feast for the eyes. I had used it earlier that day before I got lunch and the cashier was incredibly rude to me about using it again and refused when I asked for the key so that wasn't cool especially when it was probably their food that made me sick. Soon after this happened one of my coworkers was told we aren't allowed to park in their parking lot anymore even if we are purchasing gas or food there. Buyer beware!!!

Then the chain couldn't keep a pharmacist and I couldn't get my meds in town. After 15+ years of going to the chain I was a number in their register. At Barnes they know my by name, ask about my family, remind me of important things, and even worked with me to wrestle the insurance company to get me a longer cache of my meds when I would be on the road. And they have worked with me to help figure out a way to get things covered so I didn't have to pay out of pocket. I appreciated their help saving me money! This is where you need to be, and they never have a problem keeping a pharmacist! The shops is really cute too, so fun to browse in if you have to wait, lots of unique gift items for everyone in your life.
