    In August 2024 we had green shield come out and quote an 18 x10 patio. Nothing huge or extravagant by any means. We received a discount because we were flexible with our installation date. We were not in any hurry.  On December 12th or 13th I received an email that they would be out on December 16th to drop off materials and the project was going to start on December 18th. I immediately called and said I was totally caught off guard because I wasn't giving any prior notification and I had family arriving on December 20th. I thought by being flexible they would at least give me a heads up that they were even considering doing our job. I did inquire why they couldn't start after Christmas break. The person I was speaking to on the phone told me it was a smaller job and shouldn't be an issue. We went back and forth a little bit and the person on the phone assured me that they could get the job done by the 20th.  The crew arrived on the 18th and started doing their thing and then realized that they had to remove more dirt than they accounted for. Originally I told the sales guy that I would keep the dirt that they removed because they estimated it to be about 2 maybe 3 yds and I could use that throughout my yard, but it ended up being almost double that. At that point, I told the crew I don't want any of it and to remove it all. The equipment they brought was not appropriate for the amount of dirt that they had to remove. They parked the dirt trailer at the end of my driveway and as they were moving to the dirt they were bouncing up and down my driveway and dirt was dropping everywhere and because of the time of year it was and my yard being clay it was a horrible disaster. By the end of the day on the 20th my driveway looked like it was a dirt driveway, not an asphalt driveway. The crew were supposed to only be here for half a day on the 20th and they ended up being here all day and they still were not done. They wanted to leave because they had their company Christmas party to get to, understandable. They really didn't want to come back on Monday to finish the job because that's when their break was for the holidays. I totally understand that, I want a break from my work as well. Some of the crew came back Monday and finished the patio up and left a pile of dirt here and said they would be back after break to remove the dirt. I was fine with that. During the sign off review of the deck there were a few issues that I saw they did fix but trying to focus on the deck fully was pretty impossible for me because all I could see was the mess of my yard which gave me extreme anxiety. My yard has never looked like that, even with tree trimmers in my yard! And now knowing I was going to have to spend more money for a landscaper to fix what was done. I was definitely not excited for this patio and was completely regretting it! All winter I could not even think of the patio and didn't want to look at it. All I could see was the MESS left behind. So disheartening. A patio has ALWAYS been on our bucket list of things to do and we were so excited since we've waited 18 yrs to do it.  After 2 reminder emails, with pictures, to green shield from me in Feb and March, on April 3rd, the crew leader came out and removed the dirt pile,  Finally, I was able to do a thorough inspection of my deck and for the most part it's fine but there are a couple of low spots with the boards that will be a tripping hazard. There was one board that was so tight that it cracked my siding. But I seem to be out of luck because I've already signed off on the final approval, which I will never do again, lesson learned! For the amount of money that was spent I should have just had a local guy come out and if my boards rotted it would have still been cheaper to have them redo a new patio.  I'm not blaming the crew 100% for this. They were doing the job that they were assigned to do. I am upset with green shield as a business because they put the crew in a position of doing a job in 3 days, which I don't think should have been done in 3 days. They didn't take the time that needed to be taken to complete the job as they would have with any other non rushed job. Green shield just saw it as a small job and just wanted to fit one more job in before Christmas. Small job or not it's still a big expense for the customer and should have never been rushed!! I don't know if I would recommend green shield or not. It really is hard to say because the mess that was left behind was so extremely disappointing but the deck itself is ok. I'll definitely be sharing my experience if anybody asks for a recommendation and they can make their own mind up. It could have been a totally different experience if they would have just waited until springtime, I guess I'll never know.

    We are so impressed with Green Shield! Our designer Ava was amazing with our decision making and gave us exactly what we were looking for. The work crew was polite and we so appreciated the work they did during our wet and rainy fall. Getting this deck is worth the wait and money we have invested into it. Thanks again for making this such a positive experience!!

    Gaps

    Since my last review, Green Shield did come out and fix the stairs and the scratches. The corrections looked nice. I was happy with that. What I wasn't happy with this time was to find 11 decking screws that weren't put it in the holes of the decking boards to the stairs. All the screws that were rusted were not replaced. They applied paint to them when they ran out of screws. There were 3 screws on the railing that were missed and not in the holes. I took it upon myself to finish adding the screws that were missing so that part of the job could get complete. I also have a missing black finishing piece on the railing that was not put on. Plus, a spacing bracket that needs fixing. The attention to details are a joke so now I need to call the service team again. I am hoping this will be the last encounter with this company.
