Treats there employees like a piece of garbage. Got fired for no reason even have them saying it on video recording. Then threatened me with legal action about the recording even though it was completely legal. Salesman will tell you anything you want to get you to sign that day. Kinda wrong and wrong for business. My son received a quote from Green Shield for a deck that came out to about $30k for 12x12 deck. Then he received a quote from West Michigan Decks By Design for a 24x20 deck made of PVC with picture framing even on the stairs and cedar wrap around the posts for the same price! Needless to say I have them building a deck for me right now and the local small company is the way to go! read more

In August 2024 we had green shield come out and quote an 18 x10 patio. Nothing huge or extravagant by any means. We received a discount because we were flexible with our installation date. We were not in any hurry.  On December 12th or 13th I received an email that they would be out on December 16th to drop off materials and the project was going to start on December 18th. I immediately called and said I was totally caught off guard because I wasn't giving any prior notification and I had family arriving on December 20th. I thought by being flexible they would at least give me a heads up that they were even considering doing our job. I did inquire why they couldn't start after Christmas break. The person I was speaking to on the phone told me it was a smaller job and shouldn't be an issue. We went back and forth a little bit and the person on the phone assured me that they could get the job done by the 20th.  The crew arrived on the 18th and started doing their thing and then realized that they had to remove more dirt than they accounted for. Originally I told the sales guy that I would keep the dirt that they removed because they estimated it to be about 2 maybe 3 yds and I could use that throughout my yard, but it ended up being almost double that. At that point, I told the crew I don't want any of it and to remove it all. The equipment they brought was not appropriate for the amount of dirt that they had to remove. They parked the dirt trailer at the end of my driveway and as they were moving to the dirt they were bouncing up and down my driveway and dirt was dropping everywhere and because of the time of year it was and my yard being clay it was a horrible disaster. By the end of the day on the 20th my driveway looked like it was a dirt driveway, not an asphalt driveway. The crew were supposed to only be here for half a day on the 20th and they ended up being here all day and they still were not done. They wanted to leave because they had their company Christmas party to get to, understandable. They really didn't want to come back on Monday to finish the job because that's when their break was for the holidays. I totally understand that, I want a break from my work as well. Some of the crew came back Monday and finished the patio up and left a pile of dirt here and said they would be back after break to remove the dirt. I was fine with that. During the sign off review of the deck there were a few issues that I saw they did fix but trying to focus on the deck fully was pretty impossible for me because all I could see was the mess of my yard which gave me extreme anxiety. My yard has never looked like that, even with tree trimmers in my yard! And now knowing I was going to have to spend more money for a landscaper to fix what was done. I was definitely not excited for this patio and was completely regretting it! All winter I could not even think of the patio and didn't want to look at it. All I could see was the MESS left behind. So disheartening. A patio has ALWAYS been on our bucket list of things to do and we were so excited since we've waited 18 yrs to do it.  After 2 reminder emails, with pictures, to green shield from me in Feb and March, on April 3rd, the crew leader came out and removed the dirt pile,  Finally, I was able to do a thorough inspection of my deck and for the most part it's fine but there are a couple of low spots with the boards that will be a tripping hazard. There was one board that was so tight that it cracked my siding. But I seem to be out of luck because I've already signed off on the final approval, which I will never do again, lesson learned! For the amount of money that was spent I should have just had a local guy come out and if my boards rotted it would have still been cheaper to have them redo a new patio.  I'm not blaming the crew 100% for this. They were doing the job that they were assigned to do. I am upset with green shield as a business because they put the crew in a position of doing a job in 3 days, which I don't think should have been done in 3 days. They didn't take the time that needed to be taken to complete the job as they would have with any other non rushed job. Green shield just saw it as a small job and just wanted to fit one more job in before Christmas. Small job or not it's still a big expense for the customer and should have never been rushed!! I don't know if I would recommend green shield or not. It really is hard to say because the mess that was left behind was so extremely disappointing but the deck itself is ok. I'll definitely be sharing my experience if anybody asks for a recommendation and they can make their own mind up. It could have been a totally different experience if they would have just waited until springtime, I guess I'll never know. read more

Nothing but a headache. Signed in June. August Loan approved. Then crickets. Said we postponed our measure and made changes on the plans so it was my fault for the delay. Who makes stairs only 3' wide with additional, unnecessary railings? That was my only change. It's now October and no sign of a deck or even any communication from the company. Cancelling the project as I do not want these people on my property due to the harassment and accusations from their production manager when trying to get updates. I have never had a company representative basically bully me into a project. Do not recommend. Sorry I didn't read these reviews prior. read more

I will first compliment the tech who came to our home. (J.L.) was very respectful and knowledgeable when it comes to decks. Reading these reviews I do have some concerns. Some of what some individuals already had regarding price. $30,000 in my opinion is high. Even if you use a wood deck, so what. Our deck lasted over 17 years with an every 2 year stain. We will get it down to a reasonable price for the vision we have. Especially with the economy the way it is, you want the best deal. All we really wanted is an estimate and pay cash next year. They can of force you to sign. I didn't like that. Even after I told the lady on the phone I wanted JUST A DAMN ESTIMATE!!! We have a budget, and to me, I would rather invest in other things needed in terms of work being done to our home. We don't live on the deck. If you finance something like this, it takes over 20 years on 300 bucks a month. Jesus Christ! We have someone else in mind and thus will use them next year as we they can design a deck and patio that we want. read more

Since my last review, Green Shield did come out and fix the stairs and the scratches. The corrections looked nice. I was happy with that. What I wasn't happy with this time was to find 11 decking screws that weren't put it in the holes of the decking boards to the stairs. All the screws that were rusted were not replaced. They applied paint to them when they ran out of screws. There were 3 screws on the railing that were missed and not in the holes. I took it upon myself to finish adding the screws that were missing so that part of the job could get complete. I also have a missing black finishing piece on the railing that was not put on. Plus, a spacing bracket that needs fixing. The attention to details are a joke so now I need to call the service team again. I am hoping this will be the last encounter with this company. read more

All around bad experience! At first it was ok but now planks are shrinking and cracked. According to Green Shield they don't warranty that. My we and I have to contact the manufacturer about the warranty they offer which at the time was a supplier of Green Shield. Lifetime warranty lo yeah right. read more

VERY happy with our new deck w/Pergola! Everything about the process was fantastic.....from our salesperson, Jeff to the 3 man crew, Beau-Judah-Tyler and the excellent communication with the Production Team. We contacted Green Shield Deck Builders through Angie's List. Apparently companies pay to get on this list, I can't imagine how they would get on the list otherwise. We had a sales rep come to our house to give an estimate to replace our aging deck...the first company we contacted. Green Shield's sales practice boarders on coersion. He gave us a quote of $39,121 ... only good for that day! If we chose to get quotes from other companies and waited a week or so to hire them, our cost would have increased to $51,429. Where on this planet is this even close to reasonable? This is our first time replacing a deck and we had numerous questions. We also wanted more than one opinion and more than one quote. There was no way we were going to sign on the dotted line that same day. We hired another company! read more
