What was really interesting to us, was a long the trail there were signs giving the coal mining history along the trail. There are multiple trails to explore and I look forward to coming back another time to explore some of the other trails. They also have horse trails, which is pretty cool. I just need to find a horse and learn how to ride one.

There was plenty of open grass for families to lay out picnic blankets, and a covered area that was bustling with what looked like a birthday party or community event. The park also has solid amenities like tennis courts, a volleyball area, and a basketball court for older kids and adults. I especially enjoyed the shaded walking paths, which offered a nice break from the sun. The one downside was the bathroom. It was in poor condition and definitely could use some upkeep. The entrance of the…read moretrailhead is located in a small area of neighborhood that will require you to park along the side of the road. Once you walk past the closed gate (which is only there to prevents vehicles from driving down the road), you go downhill on a paved road for about half a mile. You can continue left at the fork in the road, or you can continue straight onto the dirt trail. After about another half of mile, there was a downed tree in the way that was jumpable. Along the whole walk, you see May Creek at its finest, and forget that you are in the middle of a neighborhood. Not until the last minute of the hike does the grade change. It's very steep, so if it is at all wet and muddy, you might want to bring some poles, especially the downhill portion. All in all, it was a very easy, VERY scenic hike! If you're looking to get outside without having to drive very far, check out this one.

I like the parking on the west side of the park better than the spot on West Lake Sammamish Parkway, but the latter is good too.

We ended up exiting the park and walking back through the surrounding neighborhoods to complete our loop, which felt a little unconventional, but the residents were surprisingly friendly and welcoming. A significant drawback of the main trailhead is the extremely limited parking. For future visits, I will definitely explore alternative parking options around the park's perimeter, as there doesn't seem to be a strong necessity to begin at the designated main entrance given the park's layout. During this visit, we didn't venture down to the lake or explore all the various routes, but the trails we did experience were peaceful and scenic. There were a few sections that presented some minor challenges due to curvy inclines covered in roots and uneven ground, requiring a bit of careful footing. Overall, Weowna Park offers a pleasant and serene hiking experience. While the lack of a dedicated scenic loop and the parking situation at the main trailhead are points to consider, the park's natural beauty and friendly neighborhood make it a worthwhile destination. Especially for a quick weekend walk. They allow pets, but be sure to keep them leased and bring clean up bags because that's also required.

The Gnome Trail goes left and a Loop trail to the right. There are So. Many. Gnomes! It was a lot of fun to slowly wander, looking side to side, trying to see all the gnomes! There are a couple of sections of trail with almost no gnomes, but most of it has plenty. An abundance if you will. They are everywhere! Hanging from limbs, on logs, under leaves, on tree trunks, in crevases, off in the distance. It's quite fun trying to spy them all. I like the idea of bringing a troll to leave. I would like to leave one in a less populated area. A momento of my visit to Maple Valley. This is a fairly easy trail. There is one steep incline, and some rocks and roots under foot, but the trail is a nice width and fairly easy to follow. Much of it is well blaze. An excellent trail to bring your pre-school child or anyone who enjoys a bit of whimsy.

The trial winds through a few thickets, a small bog, a terrific stand of old growth firs and follows a brook that eventually becomes a glorified trench. Plenty of small wild life includes squirrels, rabbits, red-winged black birds, ducks, sparrows chickadees and woodpeckers. While a few signs warned of bob cat, mountain lion and bears (really, in Bellevue?) what I found in most proliferation was the wild and well coiffed Eastside MILF commonly found gazing in Bellevue, Issaquah and Redmond. Both lakes are quite serene and larger than you might suppose. A great in-city adventure, I got in 5 miles of brisk urban hiking. Check Bellevue Park Dept.for various well marked trail heads.

This trail boasts a pretty long boardwalk that extends into the wetland area, giving you a great opportunity to enjoy nature while also being in a central location that's super easy to get to. While traffic can be heard, it's overall a quiet place to go and the birds seem to enjoy hanging around - definitely awesome during the Spring when everything is growing and green and the animals have their adorable little babies. If you're going to the mall or one of the other many, many business in the area, consider swinging by right quick!

Also keep in mind that Cougar Mountain isn't just some random name. Know what wildlife lives here, how to handle yourself, and remember we're the ones trespassing.

You can go back out to the parking area or it connects to another trail, Wilderness Cliffs, and you can keep going. I'd say this is an easy to moderate trail.

I have been visiting Tiger Mountain (AKA Fraternity Snoqualmie) Family Nudist Camp for about 7…read moreyears. During the summer it's the best time to just lay out in the sun and swim in the heated pool. You must be nude to swim in the pool. I've always found the locals and residents at the park to be warm and helpful. There is a full covered kitchen available for anyone to cook in and eat at the picnic tables just outside. Being publicly nude seems strange at first but that soon goes away. No one cares what you look like, just who you are and they are willing to get to know you. A couple of years ago they built three small cottages next to the restroom/shower facility. They are called the "Birdcages". All three use the established facilities so it is a bit strange but worth the place to stay at a very reasonable price. I plan on going back there for my annual summer "migration" to the park. It's worth calling them at 425-392-6833 and talk about any concerns. They are very professional and concerned about your privacy. Cross it off your bucket list if for no other reason.
