We went to the Music Fest around 5 solely to see Manchester Orchestra play at 8:45 last night. Since we got there super early, we walked up and down the fest to see what all was going on. Lots of green/recycling education which was neat and a bunch of different food vendors. Since we ate before the fest, we missed out but I wish we would have waited. The prices seemed reasonable for a fest, especially since beer was only $6. Sometimes you throw the word "fest" on something and the prices are no longer affordable. We especially loved that it wasn't overly packed like some other Chicago fests and we had actual room to walk without being trampled.
We ended up hanging out by North Stage and listening to Into It Over It. They were pretty good and were from Chicago, so they had a lot of supporters there. After they were done, we saw the opportunity to move up front to wait for Manchester. We ended up in the front row near the speakers and spent about 2 hours waiting for one of my favorite bands to start. Although my feet were killing me by the end of the night due to unreasonable shoes, it was absolutely worth it! They had a DJ filling the time between the two bands. While he wasn't playing my style of music, it was still somewhat entertaining.
Manchester killed it of course and I still can't believe we were front row and it only cost us $5 to get in. Once we were leaving, we saw how many people had accumulated behind us and it got super packed. If a band you like is playing, I would highly recommend going, but you might want to get there early. It seemed to get packed the later that it got. read more
