But - I found myself over by Ross Park Mall and was starving, so I decided to give it a go. After finding a parking place in this bizarre parking lot, I popped in. The greeting from a very cheery team was so nice! I was checking out the El Jefe bowl when a really friendly employee offered me a tiny cup with some of the bowl's adobo-spiced chicken with its yummy cilantro lime dressing. Sold!! I thoroughly enjoyed my bowl -- the black bean, charred corn, avocado - YUM! I'd opt out of the tortilla chips. They do NOT reheat well, and who needs the added calories!! Definitely planning a return visit!

It delivers on what people expected from Subway back in the day and current day Chipotle. You can order tons of vegetables that are perfectly prepared and make the bowl of your choice. I love getting the spinach base with pickled onion, corn, crispy onions, hard boiled eggs, chicken, sweet potato. It is just that... and so yummy! The price is reasonable too! I ordered takeout here and the food was immediately ready at the time promised. The stag kindly greeted me and had me on my way. The store fits the mark too. Current decor, well laid out, and just downright comforting. I'll be going to Roots for many more lunches.

Most bowls are rice, greens, and/or beans based with various vegetables for toppings. Heartier than a salad but healthier than Chipotle. I've gotten lunch there a few times and have always been satisfied. My favorite bowl is El Jefe, which comes with rice, kale, black beans, corn, red onion, avocado, and a protein topping (I like the miso tofu but you can also get chicken). The bowl also comes with cilantro/lime sauce, which I do not get because it's very salty. That's my one complaint about Roots - despite their healthy ingredients, their bowls can get quite saucy and salty if you go with the default options. This particular location is well-staffed, so service is usually quick, but it can get a rush of students around 12pm.

My frittata was excellent. Stuffed with spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes and a nice side salad. I was most impressed by the kid's menu. It wasn't a sugar overload; it was good, whole foods. My daughter devoured her eggs, seasoned potatoes (I was fighting her for them-- rosemary potatoes were amazing!), and her toast. My husband and I ate one lunch here. We had no reservation, and we wore casual clothes. Our hostess/waitress served us well, although perhaps they could have lowered the window blinds for us. I ate the Portabella Mushroom Ravioli (4.5 stars). Several large raviolis contained mushrooms and were covered in tomatoes, basil, and a rich parmesan sauce. My husband ate the Chicken Parmesan (4.5 stars). Two large pieces of chicken were covered in a crispy breading, marinara, and three cheeses. On the side was an arugula salad. It was a generous serving size, so he had leftovers to eat at home later. At the end of the meal, our waitress gave us two free mint chocolates. My husband commented that this restaurant is decent for being in a department store. The total price for our two entrees and one soda was $48 plus tax and tip.

He also ordered the BLT wrap with hot chicken, which was really good - but the hot in hot chicken was no joke, it was spicy! He also ordered the burrata marinara with grass fed beef meatballs, and carbonara with fried chicken. The vegetarian sampler platter is often my go-to, as an appetizer for sharing with someone or as an entrée for myself. Today I had it as an entrée while my friend had Sally's bowl, which also looked delicious. I very much enjoy the pomegranate green iced tea here and our server was happy to keep providing refills while my friend and I caught up over 2+ hours after not seeing each other for over a year, and never complained about needing to turn over the table. Granted, we were early in the day, starting at 11:30 and continuing through lunch hour, and there were always a couple of tables open, but it did get relatively busy during the lunch hour. This is located in a strip mall and has maybe a little less ambience than my usual location closest to home in Mount Lebanon; the thing I appreciate about that location is that it has outdoor tables set up during beautiful weather like today. Here, they don't seem to have that option on the strip mall outdoors so you are going to be eating inside or taking out. In any case, the food remains consistent and fabulous and the service is always great at every location I've tried. We didn't get dessert today as we were both very full and I was headed next to celebrate Easter with my family, but you can't miss with the absolutely decadent desserts here if you choose to get one.

Super messy but that's means it's legit we shared the fries - they were good and not super salty, but I prefer that over being too salty. My fiancé got the 916 burger and really enjoyed it! Hos only comment was that he felt there were too many onions - but he's not a big onion person and only eats small amounts of them when I use them in dishes at home.
