    Caribbean Berry Smoothie

I've been here twice now. They are conveniently located in the food court at Ross Park Mall. I've only tried the smoothies. They use fresh fruit for all smoothies and juices. The smoothies are made with fruit, non-fat yogurt and ice. They offer an extensive menu, but you can also custom make your own creation. At around $5 for a 12oz smoothie, I'd say their prices are average. Definitely my new go to stop when I'm at the mall.

A handful of sun dried tomatoes & crusty old basil on a Caprese sandwich. Gross.

I keep giving this place another chance because it's the cheapest place to get a salad in the mall. Every time I'm let down by employees not wearing gloves, eating on the line, and their consistently old vegetables. The lettuce is always brown. Last time I went there I got corn on my salad that was spoiled rotten. Today I gave it one last shot & ordered a sandwich instead. The Pesto Caprese Panini had old, brown basil on it and instead of fresh tomatoes, there was an entire handful of sun dried tomatoes. Who puts sun dried tomatoes on a sandwich!? Has the owner of this joint ever even tried the food? The first bite was so salty that I couldn't even eat the rest of it. I have given this place WAY too many chances and will never be eating there again.

It delivers on what people expected from Subway back in the day and current day Chipotle. You can order tons of vegetables that are perfectly prepared and make the bowl of your choice. I love getting the spinach base with pickled onion, corn, crispy onions, hard boiled eggs, chicken, sweet potato. It is just that... and so yummy! The price is reasonable too! I ordered takeout here and the food was immediately ready at the time promised. The stag kindly greeted me and had me on my way. The store fits the mark too. Current decor, well laid out, and just downright comforting. I'll be going to Roots for many more lunches.

When I first came in, the girl who greeted me was very welcoming and kind. She could see I hadn't been there before and explained how it all worked. I was happy when she said I could make my own. She was patient as I walked through the options and chose what I wanted. Made my own bowl with steak, rice and veggies with lemon tahini dressing. Soooo good! It was $16 for the bowl but I ate half today and will eat half tomorrow. I think k it's a big portion and a good deal. I'd like to come back and try another option. Check them out.

Most bowls are rice, greens, and/or beans based with various vegetables for toppings. Heartier than a salad but healthier than Chipotle. I've gotten lunch there a few times and have always been satisfied. My favorite bowl is El Jefe, which comes with rice, kale, black beans, corn, red onion, avocado, and a protein topping (I like the miso tofu but you can also get chicken). The bowl also comes with cilantro/lime sauce, which I do not get because it's very salty. That's my one complaint about Roots - despite their healthy ingredients, their bowls can get quite saucy and salty if you go with the default options. This particular location is well-staffed, so service is usually quick, but it can get a rush of students around 12pm.

The bowl was good but I was a little disappointed in the portion. Roots is a little bit more expensive than other similar options but I usually don't mind as they often give me a very full bowl, but that wasn't the case with the Gary bowl. It was less full than the bowls I usually get along with being very heavy on the rice and not too much chicken or even the kale. Aside from that it was still yummy but I think I'll be going back to my regular order next time.

My husband and I ate one lunch here. We had no reservation, and we wore casual clothes. Our hostess/waitress served us well, although perhaps they could have lowered the window blinds for us. I ate the Portabella Mushroom Ravioli (4.5 stars). Several large raviolis contained mushrooms and were covered in tomatoes, basil, and a rich parmesan sauce. My husband ate the Chicken Parmesan (4.5 stars). Two large pieces of chicken were covered in a crispy breading, marinara, and three cheeses. On the side was an arugula salad. It was a generous serving size, so he had leftovers to eat at home later. At the end of the meal, our waitress gave us two free mint chocolates. My husband commented that this restaurant is decent for being in a department store. The total price for our two entrees and one soda was $48 plus tax and tip.

Though the wait was long (1hr on a busy Sunday), the food came out piping hot. Each dish was flavorful. The chicken shawarma was juicy, and had the right blend of spices and sauces without being overly heavy or soggy. The rice was simple side, but had nutty buttery taste profile complimented by the parsley garnish. And the friend cauliflower reminded me a bit of Indian Dahi Wada in flavor, but was piping hot and crispy. The vegetarian sampler platter is often my go-to, as an appetizer for sharing with someone or as an entrée for myself. Today I had it as an entrée while my friend had Sally's bowl, which also looked delicious. I very much enjoy the pomegranate green iced tea here and our server was happy to keep providing refills while my friend and I caught up over 2+ hours after not seeing each other for over a year, and never complained about needing to turn over the table. Granted, we were early in the day, starting at 11:30 and continuing through lunch hour, and there were always a couple of tables open, but it did get relatively busy during the lunch hour. This is located in a strip mall and has maybe a little less ambience than my usual location closest to home in Mount Lebanon; the thing I appreciate about that location is that it has outdoor tables set up during beautiful weather like today. Here, they don't seem to have that option on the strip mall outdoors so you are going to be eating inside or taking out. In any case, the food remains consistent and fabulous and the service is always great at every location I've tried. We didn't get dessert today as we were both very full and I was headed next to celebrate Easter with my family, but you can't miss with the absolutely decadent desserts here if you choose to get one.
