Shower. We think. It didn't work. Even if it would have - we wouldn't have used it.

First, let me say my hand is to Christ on this review. And I'm not the stuck up, snooty type. Neither is my wife. In fact, we're both pretty easy going and forgiving. Anyway, we were literally forced to desperately duck and cover at this ominous hotel in the middle of a nighttime Texas Tornado warning, tennis ball sized hail, extreme lighting and thunder and a very dangerous flash flood deluge. So, we HAD to check into this hotel. While this stop may have saved our lives - this hotel was akin to literally picking the lesser of two evils. The room was disgusting! It was grossly outdated, stinky as all hell, filthy and totally unkempt. Stinky like smokers and truckers who refuse to bathe! Also, outrageously priced for something so gross! Almost $70.00! Did I say filthy, stinking and disgusting? Good. Because I meant it! Sheets not clean whatsoever. Body imprints still on sheets under comforters. Bed bugs [seriously. i'd post a picture of them if they weren't so small and my poor wife didn't beat the hell out of every one of them that crawled on her as they occurred] and bugs even crawling on the walls! AND CREEPY! Bad neighborhoods and weak door locks really do make for bad bedfellows. Seriously, we checked in at about midnight and booked out long before 4AM. People? We literally risked everything to get the hell out of that hotel. My wife was literally adamant! Tornados or not! At least die with some dignity! Seriously, this hotel is reminiscent of every terrorizing motel movie you've ever seen folks! I swear I'm neither joking or exaggerating. Filthy, disgusting and totally terrifying! The comforters were anything but. From the 1970's I believe. Cleaned sometime about then as well apparently. Their white sheets? Really? We described their hue as, "smokers taupe." We asked for a non smoking room but were met with a smelly room with carpets covered in cigarette burns. A long story short? Unless you're in absolute peril, turn the hell around and drive away as fast as you can! I honestly mean that.

It has DirecTV, microwave and refrigerator.

The biggest problem was apparent dishonesty by the young man in the office. When asked about the breakfast advertised, he assured us there would be biscuits and gravy, pastries, cold cereal, and juices. In the morning - all they had was bad coffee. Nothing else. The young man in the office said they had a problem with a delivery. There were appliances there like a big multi-cereal dispenser, but no present breakfast. The second bit of low credibility was when we were looking for the ice machine and he indicated there had been an electrical problem the previous night and the machine was not currently working --but considering Sara C's review pic from Feb 2025 -"Out of Order. Across the Street Ice Machine Working" -I wonder if this is a continuous problem rather than a glitch from the night before. There were a few other problems: * The deadbolt was inoperable. The door seemed warped out of alignment and no amount of pushing or wrestling the door up or down allowed the dead bolt to engage. (We were tired, it was late, and we didn't feel like demanding a new room so we piled luggage next to the door as an alarm.) * The swimming pool was partially filled with brownish-green stagnant water. I remember the pool being out of service on a previous stay here, but don't remember if it was in this sad shape both of our previous visits. * One of the lights by the bed was burned out or otherwise nonfunctioning. The "Hotel" is situated conveniently on the highway we were traveling on, but we will look elsewhere if and when we are driving through Vernon again.

La Fonda Motel - Pretty spacious.

I was hoping to find a little old-fashioned Motel to stay in, my favorite kind. This one fit the…read morebill perfectly. Well, almost. I didn't get in until about 10 p.m. but the manager was still awake and must have seen that I was a safe person because he invited me inside the lobby and didn't make me stand outside with insects flying around. It was $50 for one room, one person ($56+ with taxes and fees). He said that was the senior rate, that normally it's $55. Everything is old but clean and in good working order. I wasn't expecting a microwave, fridge, and coffee maker so that was an added Plus to justify the price. Otherwise I might have said this was a $40-$45 place, but it's worth it to have the little amenities. The linens are nothing fancy but were clean. The mattress was extremely comfortable. There is a little envelope of shampoo and conditioner and a tiny soap, plus one coffee pod for the coffee pot. I had no problem getting another coffee pod to use the next day and when I told the guy I had my own ground coffee and did he have any filters he didn't just give me one or two but a whole stack of them to take with me on my travels because he said he had lots of them. That was very nice. He was very nice every time I encountered him. The room is spacious and includes a plastic chair, a nightstand with drawers that included a local phone book and a little booklet about the town, double bed, lamp, micro/frig, coffee pot, couple of tables to set things on, mirror, A/C and a power strip right next to the bed so you can plug in your devices. The A/C worked great, the bed was comfortable and the place was very quiet. I slept great. I felt very safe here also, which is important for a female traveling alone. I liked the place so much I decided to spend another night so I could explore the little town of Vernon the second day. All was fine until I got back from having dinner at the Chicken Shack. There was a mild urine smell in the room. I wasn't sure if it was coming from the bathroom or the carpeting just outside the bathroom but later thought it was coming from the carpeting. The smell got worse as the evening progressed and it was disconcerting to have to smell it all night long. I tried spritzing some lavender spray I had with me but that wasn't enough to make the smell go away. Also my feet got very black after walking around barefoot for a while so I think they need to give the carpeting a thorough shampooing. You don't realize how much ground in dirt there is in a carpet till you give it a good shampoo and see the dirty water in the container. I was also surprised at the amount of dirty fingerprints on the door jamb. I always carry one of those magic eraser sponges with me, you know the white one that cleans anything? I used it on the smudges and posted pictures of the difference before and after and all I gave it was a light wipe down with that sponge. I did a little online research the second evening out of curiosity and found that this Motel was built in 1947 which makes it older than me! I also found out the name La Fonda translates to The Inn in English. And I found an old postcard for sale on eBay showing what the place looked like in the early 50s so I included it in the photos Iposyed. This is the kind of place I would have stayed at with my parents when we would travel and that's one reason I enjoy staying a little old motels when I travel myself. If you're looking for fancy you'd better go to another place where you'll pay twice as much. This was a good budget place and I would probably stay here again.
