Intrigued, I kept following the signs, wondering where the hell I was and if I would find anything, until I finally spotted the last sign pointing me to the back of a building that overlooks a little water and a lot of boats. Portobello is a beautifully designed and stylish establishment, almost empty at 3pm in the afternoon. The only waiter on hand was having a glass of wine with two friends, but was happy to make me an iced latte. I sat out on the deck, enjoying the view and the odd surroundings of fashionable new residences. The coffee was fine, though a little watery by the time all the ice had melted. However I did appreciate the large size of it on the very hot day. I love the clean, modern design of this place, and definitely plan on coming back for dinner. They have paintings by local artists displayed on the walls, with contacts and prices beside them, which I also really liked. It's the only food place to be found in this area, so thankfully it looks to be a good one.

A thermomix is visible in the kitchen - interesting for the pricing and overall flare of the location. I now know why service with more than just a smile can have even more meaning than great food and a cool environment. Our waitress, Lani, was so passionate and having so much fun in her job that we were convinced she was the owner of the place! She was not shy in sharing her opinion of the wine we should be drinking nor of having a chat in between serving others, we walked out feeling like a regular of the place - still bubbling from the friendliness and genuine concern for ensuring we had a good time. But I also can't go past the food. Here are 3 key finger lickingly good tips for you when dining for dinner here: - Sharing is caring and worth it for anyone on a budget or who gets food envy (yours truly). But don't feel limited to the Bar/Share menu, you can share the pizza, the mains the smaller plates and you'll be full from 4-5 dishes between 2! - If you like unusual flavour combinations, that is still accessible to the normal palette (ie. not offal) this is the place for you. Gin and beetroot cured salmon or Fig & Proscuitto Pizza, even the mushroom stuffed baby squid all were such simple concoctions but so well flavoured. - Get there at sunset, it is really well enclosed on the balcony outside and if you have a coat in winter you could easily sit outside and watch the beautiful sunset over Semaphore beach + score 100 romance points too! Like a kid in a candy shop who just found the best sweets tucked away in the back of the shop, I am still hyped up about Lickerish and can't wait to save up my pennies till my next visit with friends.

Beautiful space, warm and comfortable inside when outside is dreary, but when the sun is shing, get out there on the balcony. The only way to eat! Grab a bottle of something, and feast on a couple of platters. Its run by old 'Greedy Goose' hosts John and Justine Hall, and it has the same attention and love of their food after all these years! I had zucchini flowers (with cheese!) which were devine, the cured salmon melts in the mouth and theres a range of pizzas, most of which can be made gluten free (with a $3 surcharge) Great place, great food, great service - everything I look for, and more!

When I first discovered it while perfusing the internet I though that it's location on the inside bend of the Port River was actually a really good location - it seems that the owners thought that as well because it is actually a fairly classy pub. Mind you, you are looking across the river to the industrial part of Port Adelaide so the view actually isn't all that fantastic. Also, it is a bit further back from the river than I expected it to be, which means you have a pretty good view of some undeveloped land and a bunch of fishermen. Oh, a couple of the staff were pretty rude as well, and getting to this place, especially when you don't have a car, it a bit of nightmare. Still I do give it points for its location.

I absolutely loved the pulled pork, thought it was the winner out of the meats, and it went so well with the apple slaw. The mac n cheese was great, but serving sizes for the sides were a bit small (I ate 4 'serves' of mac n cheese and could easily have eaten more). The potato tots were salty and crispy and tasted great with the blue cheese dipping sauce. I absolutely hate blue cheese, but this sauce was great. The only disappointment for me was the beef brisket. It tasted nice but hadn't been cooked long enough so the fat hadn't broken down properly. Not a huge deal though as I was happy to keep going back to that delicious pulled pork. The staff were really great and the store itself had a really good vibe. If you're thinking of going I have two pieces of advice for you: 1. Book a table! They are really busy so you'll probably miss out if you don't book 2. Go as soon as they open! They only cook a certain amount of each item and sell out quite regularly. My husband went there once at 7pm and they'd already sold out of the beef brisket (they have a count on the wall that tells you how many of each are still available that night).

Not only is it around the block, but it's not very noticeable where it is located, and I had to look twice before I saw it. The first thing I did was to check out the menu out the front of the restaurant. And the prices!!! Oh my... they're rather expensive. You're looking at just shy of $20 for a meal. In Chinatown you can get a nice meal for around half the price. I hopes the food would match the prices, and to be honest the bar was set pretty high at $17.50 for a satay chicken. To be honest the food was actually pretty decent. The thing is that both Chinatown and Port Adelaide are roughly the same distance away from my house. Given the option I'd head to the CBD any day. Good but not worth the high price.
