It was our first time there and unfortunately, the experience was not very good. The restaurant was very hot, it seemed like their air conditioning wasn't working. It was actually cooler outside. I ordered a chicken souvlaki platter and didn't care for the tzatziki. It appeared to be frozen and tasted unusually sweeter than usual. The chicken was ok, a bit under seasoned. We ordered a side of fries because we were both still hungry. It didn't even fill up a small plate. The portion was smaller than what we expected. Went there on a Tuesday 5 pm only few customers not busy, want to order some pastitsio but were out , so were the lamb shank and lamb chops and chop sirloin and probably everything else , so I order just a gyro sandwich and Greek chicken for my wife the sandwich came out dry and semi burnt and the chicken was extremely hot but the skin were soggy and not shiny looks like just got reheated in a microwave and the meat was dry and no taste,the waitress try to give us some gravy to make it less dry that just not right, she said they were busy over the weekend and sold out everything but that was 2 days ago ! We stopped by for their Lamb Shanks and we weren't disappointed! Some things in life are reliable and the Greek Islands' lamb shank is one of those things. They have the same orzo and delicious sauce as they have had for years. The lamb shanks also come with one of their mini-Greek salads. Our regular Wednesday night dinner group decided to try the Greek Islands Restaurant this week. WINNER! WINNER! We ordered the saganaki (flaming cheese), Greek salad (included with the entrees), chicken shish-ka-bob, and mousaka. Every thing we ordered was absolutely delicious. The Greek salad is the gold standard by which all Greek salads should strive to be. The main course portions of chicken shish, which was accompanied by rice and french fries, was beautifully seasoned and perfectly cooked. Greek Islands in Largo was a nice treat. We specifically wanted the Greek Soup, & this is the place that had it close by to Clearwater Beach. It was simple and warm, and that's what we wanted at the time. We also got our favorite saganaki flaming cheese. It's good, yet it's so small and we eat it in a second This restaurant has inside and quite a bit of outside shaded seating. We came late so we were the only ones in the restaurant. This is a family place. They take out, catering, outdoor dining and indoor dining. We had the pork Souvlakia which was perfectly seasoned served with a Greek salad with a dollop of Potato salad, along With pita bread and tzasiki. We also had the gyro in pita bread loaded with fresh meat, tomatoes, lettuce and homemade tzasiki sauce. Everything was so darn good I forgot to take pictures. What a nice little place to go! There are many things to compliment about this place but I'll start with the bad to get it out of the way... One: parking here is atrocious, the spots are way to close together and there aren't that many spots if you go when it's a busy time. Two: the service here, at least the waiters we had, seemed to not like their jobs and two different ones asked our drink order and then never showed up again with the drinks. When our waitress, for the rest of the meal, came over she was still empty handed but waiting and ready for us to order. We had to remind her about the drinks twice! The good now! I orederd the gyro platter and it was very generous with the portion of the meat! The meat was seasoned perfectly, not overly peppery or overpowering in general! Friendly, efficient, attentive and personable. Food was delicious! The Avgolemono soup was a bit thicker than I am accustomed to, but flavorful with a fair amount of rice. The saganaki was perfect: light, tasty and delicious ( sorry, no photo of it aflame!) The spinach pie was not the usual multi layer flakey crust with lots of cheese; they didn't call it spanakopita, but it was yummy ( and reheated well for dinner!) Greek salad was light and not overly saturated with dressing: perfect with potato salad topper.The sautéed chicken strips were perfectly seasoned, moist and served over rice with a variety of vegetables, and fantastic with the accompanying bread. Lastly, the souvlaki platter was also delicious with Tzatziki sauce and pita. Food all perfectly cooked with good sized portions ( and lots of leftovers). Stopped on a Sunday afternoon at Greek Islands for a late lunch. It's not a fancy place, a square room filled with plastic covered tables and blue checkered tablecloths. The food is fantastic! We had a Greek salad for two, with gyro meat. The salad is served family-style in a big bowl. An enormous helping of gyro meat on a separate plate. The salad has an iceberg lettuce base, and is adorned with slices of red and yellow peppers, beets, onions, Greek olives and a few pepperoncinis. Also included is a scoop of potato salad (a Pinellas County uniquity). The whole thing is lightly dressed with an oil and vinegar Greek dressing. This is a taste sensation. Among the best Greek salads I've eaten. The combination of flavors, mixed with the creaminess of the potato salad and the right amount of dressing is excellent. The gyro meat is sliced thin, right from the spit, a little crunchy around the edges and spiced just right. The serving for 2 is enough for 3, so plenty to take home for later. No room this time for dessert, but I'm sure the homemade baklava alone is worth the trip back. Plus, there's an extensive menu of all kinds of Greek delicacies to try next time. This is my favorite restaurant when I come to Clearwater. It is owned and run by a Greek family and most of the people working there are extended family members. The menu has a number of authentic Greek dishes that they make on-site. Their Greek deserts are varied and quite delicious. The restaurant itself is very basic, almost like a beach restaurant. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed. Today I had the gyro platter, one of my favorites. The gyro meat was spicy and moist like it should be. It's dry from hours of cooking in too many Greek restaurants. The Greek salad is probably the best in the area. I could live on their Greek salad alone for a week. The pita bread is very fresh. When my friend and I were walking up to the restaurant they have a space out front for out door seating but it was closed off. It was almost like a dock on the isle of Greece awaiting a boat but it was over grown with weeds and the potted plants outside were very dead with weeds growing everywhere. The front door was dirty, although we decided to go in anyway b cause little dicey places often have the best food. We sat down and were approached by a gentleman who seemed authentically Greek. He wasn't very friendly and his demeanor felt as though we met gut have interrupted him from something important. The menus we ordered from were dirty to the touch. The waiter took our order and our food came out so fast it had to already be prepared. The salad was good but the potatoes salad was not the potatoes had very little flavor. The interior is filthy and when I went to wash my hands in the bathroom I found the bathroom dirty also. There are many Greek restaurants and they all have revues on yelp. Went for dinner with my son and mom, and I really wasn't impressed by the food there. My son and I both had the gyro platter which came with gyro meat, pita bread, and a Greek salad on the side. I liked the gyro meat, the pita was good but nothing really special but the Greek salad wasn't so great, I guess because I'm not used to the pepperoncini and red peppers that came on it, and since I'm not really a fan of either of those things that just altered the taste of the Greek salad for me. I also think it had too much oregano on it. I love that they had potato salad in just as they do in most the Greek salads that they make in nearby Tarpon Springs which is a highly Greek populated city. My mother had the lamb shank which came with orzo and a Greek salad. She really enjoyed it which i was happy about. The portion was huge and she had enough left for lunch the next day. Service wasn't the best but the owner of the restaurant was very nice. I noticed there were some high rated reviews in the past but I also understand that recently there's been new ownership. I called to place an order and the server laid the phone down to help a customer but then forgot about me. I hung up and called back about 7 minutes later and placed an order for the Greek Island Special which was $12.95 on the online menu. I was charged the actual price of $18.95. The food that was supposed to be hot was at room temp. The gyro meat was sliced thin (as it should be) but one side was hard like cardboard. The chicken strips were nothing special. Didn't taste any Greek flavors at all. The rice was buttery but there was nothing about it that tasted Greek. The Greek salad everyone raves about consisted of one mushy tomato wedge, two black olives, One thin strip each of green bell pepper and onion, one small beet slice, two thin cucumber slices, and a little feta cheese sprinkled on top of some iceberg lettuce. The Greek dressing was its only redeeming factor. I do not recommend this restaurant. Maybe I just ordered on a bad day, but the food was not good. What a waste of $. read more
