I've been patronizing this establishment for 20 years, and I gave them a 4 star review 3mos ago on Goggle. Today on June 28th I stopped by for one of my usual meals, which is either chicken & broccoli SPICY, Lomein SPICY, Hot braised wings extra SPICY or Honey garlic wings ALL FLATS WELLDONE & SPICY. I went with House Lomein SPICY and Honey Garlic wings SPICY for my order. I actually haven't had their food in about 2mos because I've been on medical leave from work and haven't been able to get around as much. I sent family in with my order on a piece of paper written out in detail because I'm so FINICKY about my food. Also, I put my phone number on the paper if they needed to call for confirmation, because maybe my handwriting wasn't ledgeable. I always order the same 4 dishes and rarely change it up. Today, for some apparent reason my Honey garlic wings weren't SPICY or WELL DONE. I immediately called the establishment to complain about the mistake on my wings and get the situation corrected. My solution on this mistake was to bring back the wrongly made wings, but be compensated for my inconvenience. I'm home and exhausted from hoping on my foot. I was willing to get back out and come to their establishment despite my current medical limitations to get the correct order. However, the inconvenience, gas, and time should be refunded with the $9.71 wings on the house. My order consisted of 3 entrees, 1 appetizer, and 1 side. My entire order was $45.37, and I kept everything else because it was fine, but the wings were not. It saddens me that Great Wall's ownership couldn't see the fairness in taking a loss of wings that were prepared incorrectly and maintaining a customer for life. I will no longer be patronizing this establishment unless I have an ah moment that changes my mindset. I honestly felt devalued as a repeat patron/customer and won't tolerate the way I was treated. I know them from my job and have informed them about current sales and promotions. I honestly thought over the years we'd established a genuine rapport, but I was terribly wrong and I left upset and defeated. However, when I say I'm done with you...I'm truly done. I've observed a lot of restaurants could care less about customer's satisfaction, since Covid. The customer engagement, food quality, and service has taken a major decline and people no longer care about maintaining BRAND LOYALTY. Therefore, I'll take my coins and business elsewhere where I can be appreciated. read more

I judge different restaurants solely based on a specific ubiquitous item from that genre of restaurant. For pizza places, it's the hand tossed pepperoni, for sushi spots it's the California roll, for Chinese places, it's the egg roll. Based on the egg roll test, this is the best Chinese place in the Albany area. The lo mein was good too, not too starchy but still substantial. Folks were nice, and their covid precautions were better than any other restaurant I've seen in town. They straight up have a plastic sheet from ceiling to counter, it's 2021. The owners have a very thick accent and horrible customer service skills. Which makes it extremely difficult to communicate orders effectively. Long-story short, they got my order wrong and was not able to make a reasonable accommodations for a simple side of .54 cent lemon pepper seasoning. I've only been living in the area since October, so I was still on the lookout for a regular Chinese takeout place.... & I think this is it! I'd been going to Red Wok because it's closer, but honestly, it's worth the trip to get Great Wall instead. Last night I got Sesame Chicken with their fried rice (peas, carrots, mushrooms, broccoli). It was delicious, and a large enough portion that I shared with my brother-in-law :) I also ordered some pork dumplings- EXCELLENT! Could be considered an A+ dupe of the TGIF's appetizer potstickers. A friend suggested we stop by here as it was an old favorite of his. However, it appeared to be under new management. Hesitant but hungry, we took a chance. The cashier was very unwelcoming, not appearing to care much at all whether or not we gave her our business. But hey, whatever. He ordered shrimp with broccoli and white rice, and I ordered teriyaki chicken with fried rice (both meals with waters). I specifically asked if the teriyaki chicken came with vegetables, and didn't really get a straight answer. So I clarified, and asked that I only recieve chicken and rice. Before we sat down, we noticed that chopsticks were 0.50¢ a pair. Never seen that before--kind of ridiculous. We each paid for them though and took a seat. When served our waters (poured from the sink), my friend politely asked if they had slices of lemon, which was answered with a flat "No." When our food came, I opened my styrofoam box to find numerous vegetables mixed in with my chicken and my rice. Okay. I was hungry and really didn't think I'd get anywhere by bringing it back to the cashier, so I decided to just eat it. The vegetables were clearly frozen, and cheap. The chicken was absolutely not teriyaki, but more of a sweet and sour. I'm not sure if my whole order was put in wrong, or if they just didn't know what "teriyaki" was. It was also more batter than actual meat. My friend's food appeared fine to him at first, but after a couple of minutes, he remarked it was "barely edible" and was only finishing it to feel like he got his money's worth. According to him, the broccoli was crunchy. (I don't eat broccoli so I'm not sure if that's a generally accepted bad thing, or just his personal taste.) He also mentioned the shrimp were "basically flavorless." His exact words were "I'd rather have stayed home and eaten a peanut butter sandwich." Ouch. I can't say there was a single redeeming quality of our dining experience. I wish there was, because I'm willing to excuse a lot if, say, the server was kind. But no. Worst service ever and terrible food. Placed an order to be delivered. Was quoted one price. After waiting an hour, we get a call asking if we're going to pick up our order. No, that's why we had the little conversation about how I would need to pay cash because it was being delivered. Food gets here, ice cold and an hour and a half later, ice cold, and it cost more than I was quoted and one whole item was left off the order. So I call and ask for manager. Person who answers the phone asks me why I need to talk to the manager. Really?! So I tell her the whole story. She hands the phone to someone else who argues with me about what I ordered. I again tell her that they left an item off of my order completely and she says "let me give you to the manager" (which is what I asked for to begin with), and he also proceeds to argue with me about what I ordered. Last time we ordered from here, the food was nasty so we thought we would give it another try. Won't make that mistake again. One star is a generous rating. read more

I have been eating at this restaurant since I was 18 years old and I still enjoy them. I always get the general tso's chicken with chicken fried rice. Their sweet tea is really good as well as the honey garlic wings. The staff is friendly enough and I never have to wait too long. read more

It was okay, shrimp fried rice didn't have egg or bean sprouts & shrimp was much smaller than the normal place I visit.

The food is OK, but nothing to write home about. It is at best a take out place, because the restaurant seating capacity is small. Delivery takes anywhere from 1 hour to 1 and one half hours. Yeah, they give you large portions, but is mainly rice, cheap vegetables and sauce. The other experience is that when you order, the people answering the phone hardly understand English so you have to wait to get someone who understands you. Then, they ALWAYS say "we so busy, busy, busy" so you feel under pressure and can't ask any questions about the items on the menu. I don't know about you, but I was not raised on the vast array of Chinese or Asian dishes they serve so it would be nice to know what some of the dishes have in them. I may or may not like them. We have ordered from them a few times and just gotten things that we know we like from eating at other Chinese Restaurants before. So I placed an order and then changed my mind to try something different. I called back within TWO MINUTES of placing my order to change it. After talking to two different people who could not understand English well, a male with an Chinese or Asian accent took my call and told me that I needed to place my order correct and they did not have time to change it because they were so busy. His behavior was RUDE and UNCALLED FOR. I told him that I am a paying customer too and have ordered from you before. He basically repeated himself. I just had the worst experience at Great Wall. When i told them my order was wrong, they said the cost difference to fix it would be $1.50. I said i would pay it even though they should have just fixed it for no additional charge. The lady said that my order wasn't wrong and called the order taker over and asked him for verification. Then the lady asked if I could just keep the wrong order and pay for a side item of what i wanted which costed $5 extra. What?! I said that was ridiculous and she said, "thank you," looking at the next customer implying that she was done with me. This is no way to run a business. Ive worked in the food industry for 10+ years and when there is a discrepancy, you fix the order no matter who is right or who is wrong. Ugh! Im never going back here. read more

It's really only a place for takeout, I've never seen anyone eat in but the service is quick and they never get my orders wrong. The absolute best wonton soup in Albany and the hot and sour soup is also amazing. We eat here at least once a week. I highly recommend it. read more

I will always go to this place for Chinese food delivery because i haven't found another. But when it comes to it. It says about 15-30 minute delivery time. I called after 30 minutes and asked if my order has at least left the building (as I live right around the corner from them). No. It hasn't. She rudely tells me I have another 25 to 30 minutes before I even see it and hangs up on me! That's fine, but I'm starving. If the wait time in the middle of the day is gonna be at LEAST an hour don't say it'll be 15-30 minutes, I would have ordered jimmy johns who is also around the corner and they would have been here in 8 minutes like they always have been. read more

Terrible customer service! I called in an order and the person who answered barely spoke English. I ordered Sesame chicken and she gave me Sweet and Sour, two very distinct names. The lady told me she would not give me a refund nor an exchange because that' what I ordered. She precedes to tell me what the difference is between the two dishes, like I didn't know. She stood there and argued with me over my meal, before replacing it with the correct order.What has happened to providing Excellent customer service. Encouraged by largely positive reviews, I paid my first visit to the Great Wall restaurant today (10/27/15). Unfortunately, I found nothing to celebrate. I'll comment on just a few things. The hot and sour soup was passable, but too thin and watery for my taste. A major disappointment was the cheese wontons. For starters, they look absolutely nothing like what they have pictured on their website (http://www.greatwallalbany.com). They are flat like a very thin ravioli or pierogi with only a hint of cheese. The best cheese wontons that I have found locally is at the House of You on N. Slappey. There, when first brought out, the wontons are plump and filled with warm and creamy soft cheese that I think is tops in the area. When I first saw the Wall's I thought that they were a type of square chip. Very unsatisfying. The chicken fried rice at the Wall is average at best and probably less than that. It was bland and could have benefitted from more onion. Finally, I tried one of my favorites: hot and spicy shrimp. Yes, there were some shrimp in the dish but it seemed they were there as an afterthought. Over half the plate was white rice. The shrimp on the other half of the plate had to share with gobs of stewed onion in a tasty and spicy but all too plentiful sauce. Competing with the outnumbered shrimp was an abundance of green peppers, corn, water chestnuts and some other fillers I can't recall. A far better rendition of the dish can be found at the Crazy Buffet on Cordele Rd. There, more tasty and numerous shrimp (I would guess at least twenty) are served in their shells and are complemented rather than over-powered by the sauce and vegetables. As stated, this was my first visit. I'll go back and try some of their other dishes, but so far I find that the Great Wall is nothing to rave about. read more
