Sunday just before noon, I hear a loud crack and thump. A branch has fallen into the street. I'd emailed Great Plains to have my trees removed per their recommendation but then this happens. I called the guy that gave me an estimate and asked him what should I do. Carl said "I'm on my way!" He called 911 and got the police out to block the road. You would not believe the idiots who had tried to drive under it! He then talked the officer into calling the city to move the branch out of the street. Monday morning, Carl and his crew were back and went to work. They even flushed a varmint... raccoon... and then back at it. They were efficient friendly and courteous. Poor communication was my first concern, but that quickly gave way to incompetence. They sent two young men (high school age) to our house to treat for Emerald Ash Borer. The two young men did not knock to tell us they were there. They proceeded to drill holes in our oak tree! It was good thing we happened to be home and noticed this happening. When told to stop, one boy responsed with "calm down". If Great Plains is sending people out to treat ash borer, you would expect that the people treating the trees could properly identify an ash tree! How many people paid $300+ to have their ash tree treated, but these kids treated the wrong tree? read more

I have an Italian Chestnut tree in my front yard and to my amazement, the arborist who arrived after my initial call actually knew what it was. About 30 feet tall and best described as a giant bush, branches and runners all over. Now I can tell it is actually a tree. With in a day of my call for an estimate, the arborist arrived. Very friendly and knowledgable. I received an email with a detailed, firm estimate about 20 minutes later. I accepted the price and shortly there after a follow up email. Later that afternoon I received a text message saying they would arrive at 8:00 am the following morning. A crew of 4 arrived and all were very friendly and personable. The supervisor and an arborist explained how they would proceed and also provided a recap when they had finished. Along the way of the conversation they asked for my desired outcome of the trimming. We had a great experience! We got a reasonable estimate to get our trees trimmed and when we decided to get the job done, there was a crew at our house the very next day. I worked with Zach and they were all very professional and respectful of our property. They even trimmed up the dead limbs on our smaller tree which wasn't a part of the quote. I couldn't have asked for a better experience! They came out to remove a giant spruce and trim deadwood from my ash! This was my third time using them and they have now done all of my trees on my property. They do an excellent job with clean up and all my trees all look amazing!! The work on my neighbor's tree seemed to be fine but the debris was left in my yard and next to my driveway across the street. Before they left I went out and asked if they were going to clean up and the guy said yes. After I went back in the house they left and left their mess behind. read more

Mike did a good job on the tree care. He showed up when he said he would and his prices were reasonable. There was some damage to the surrounding plants but this was expected. HOWEVER the gate to the backyard was broken off and a bush planted by it this Spring was trampled beyond recovery. I left a message regarding these two things because I was upset there was no acknowledgement or apology for the damage. When Mike returned my call he was rude and insulting. He basically called me a liar, said he knew what I was trying to do and then proceeded to tell me what a mess my yard is. He assumed I was trying to get out of paying him and wouldn't let it go. He began texting me after the call ended with photos of a weed showing between the boards of the open bottom gate as "evidence" it had been in its current location for a long time. One weed...showing in the space between two vertical boards of an open bottomed gate. Really. This could have easily slid between the boards when the gate was placed against the fence. I freely admit the gate is not in great shape but it was up and functional before Mike began work. I had just gone through it the night before to put lawn waste out for pick up. If you decide to hire him, do yourself a favor and take photos of your property before he begins work. read more
