I'm not too picky about my hair, and my mom likes to go to Great Clips so I sometimes go in for a trim. She always appreciated the convenience, efficiency of service, and the value. Convenience was really the only reason I went: if my mom wanted a haircut I would get a trim rather than just read on my phone.
I don't think my hair is too complicated: it's long, I get long layers and face framing. My hair is wavy and it does it's own thing, so it's pretty forgiving. But I've never been happy with a haircut I've had at this location. Usually the appointment takes 10 or 15 minutes, though sometimes less, and I often leave feeling that nothing was done with my hair, or I have face framing so short that it looks like I have a spray of outgrown baby hairs at my temples. Sometimes my hair is misted, sometimes it is cut dry. There's no consistency. My mom says she appreciates not having to spend so much time getting a haircut, but I have always felt it was time wasted for me personally.
But I'm not leaving a review for myself today, but for my mom who has always been the loyal Great Clips customer. She went in for a haircut today without me. She brought with her the same photo she has brought to haircut appointments for the last 20 years, at least. She is an older lady now and hard of hearing, so sometimes you have to say things twice, and she speaks English as a second language, and I understand how all that can be frustrating. I also admit that I am only hearing this story from my mom's perspective. But from what I understand, there was confusion between the stylist Jenny and my mom about what she wanted cut. My mom kept referring back to the photo she brought, and eventually Jenny said she couldn't do the haircut and refused my mom service. What I found most surprising about this story is that Jenny was my mom's stylist the last time we went in together a few months ago. I sat across from them and heard their conversation, and it did seem like there were some communication misunderstandings because my mom couldn't verbalize what she wanted. That cut was spur of the moment, so I'm the one who advised her to bring her photo for the next cut. But apparently, that became a point of contention. Maybe Jenny was having an off day? But one negative interaction like that can cost a lifelong customer, and that's the case with my mom.
As I said, I have taken my mom to Great Clips appointments for years--decades perhaps. I see LOTS of parents of boys bringing their kids in for trims, and they all seem satisfied with the service. I think that is their wheelhouse. If you're looking for care and consideration with a female hairstyle, this is not the place for you. read more
