If you're nodding your head like, "Yes, Dani, Preach!" then you should check out Golden Salon & Dry Bar. A colleague at work recommend I check this place out one morning when I got to the office. The second I saw their pictures I booked an appointment and was on my way by 1pm. Now, the thought of dying my hair freaks me out because I have super fine hair that grows very slowly and I love it's natural color. During Winter though, blondes I know you can relate, my hair goes a little on the darker side because I'm not getting enough sun. So I asked my stylist, Krystal, what she thought the best thing to do was and set me up with a non-bleach balayage style, lightening service. In non-fancy terms, it's a natural way of not killing your hair and lightening it in an evenly layered process. I love how far we've come with salon techniques in the world! Krystal was very gentle, a great conversationist. She listened to all my worries about my lack of trust for hair salons and made me overcome those fears by proving the right way to do it. I left with my naturally blonde hair, a little "more sun-kissed," softer, healthier and feeling like a rockstar. She gave me waters and tea, magazines and time alone to close my eyes and breathe. I loved it! I talked with the owner and a couple other stylists on my way out and all were very kind and genuinely helpful with tips. I would definitely recommend this salon on all levels! They have tons of parking and are located right next to a wide variety of restaurants, a movie theatre, and a Starbucks. Great one stop shop to prep with your girls for a date night and/or movie with friends!

Also viewed pictures of color that I liked. I appreciated how she not only gave me her professional opinion on which color(s) to use, but she also explained in detail what she was going to do. She was very thorough and I can't say thank you enough for her taking the time to do all that. My color turned out beautiful and I am so happy with the results. Kaitlin is awesome! I've also been in one time a few weeks ago and had a hair cut with Megan Hamlin. She was the same in discussing with me what would be best for my hair and lifestyle. I like low maintenance. As a self-proclaimed tomboy, I'm always nervous to work with a new stylist out of fear that I'm going to end up with a hard-to-maintain and style super complicated 'do. However, Katie styled my hair in a way that made me feel more feminine than ever without feeling like I was getting ready for prom. The cut and color both looked and felt so natural and I have never before felt so stylish and pretty! One thing that I TRULY appreciate about her is the fact that she LISTENS. I wear my hair in a ponytail every single day for work and too many stylists have ignored me when I said this. In the past I would too frequently end up with a cut so short that I had this tiny little ridiculous ponytail and hair falling all over the place (including in to my eyes). Katie cut my hair to the perfect length where it looked healthier and fuller but still left a great looking ponytail! (And on her first try, at that!) Most importantly (to me, anyway) is that Katie really took the time to teach me how to work with my hair and new 'do. I never used to spend a lot of time on it but now I look forward to going out so that I can work to replicate what she did when she styled it. I have lived in Los Angeles and San Diego for the past 8 years, receiving color correction treatments for bleached out ruined hair, highlights, and balayage at high end salons in La Jolla and Santa Barbara. The peak of what I have spent on my hair should not have been in Wilmington, NC, and for bad hair at that! Yes, I have long hair. I have NEVER been charged anything close to $600 and even if I was okay with that price, I am not okay with it for the hair that I left with. My hair is fried, looks nothing like the photo that I showed her, has a bad cut, and has bad color. There are streaks of platinum mixed with deep brown, leaving me with all shades of human hair on my head. When I called the salon after getting over the initial shock of the $600 charge, Rachel couldn't give me a good explanation for how that price came to be. She said she charges by the hour, then she said by the individual service "she had to charge extra for the money piece in front". Then, she told me that she had to provide color correction and that is why it was so expensive. I color my roots with Wella at home. There was no color correction needed. She gave me a full highlight service with toning and it ended up frying my hair and looking not at all subtle. I feel like crying, looking back at how my hair was just a couple of days prior to going in and paying $600 to someone for this "service" is such an insult. I am super picky about who cuts and colors my hair and she met every expectation I had going in. She was personable and super attentive to what I wanted, she asked a lot of questions to make sure it was clear and talked me through the process. She is so so nice and I am so happy I found her! I found her through Instagram and she is active on there about hair care, how to's, and just overall good people. I learn from her when I'm not even in the chair! Leah is another one I've gotten blowouts from and I am so so happy I met her along the way too! She is so bubbly and has such good skills at making my hair so full of life.
