I went here from 2010 to 2017. The first few haircuts were good. Some haircuts were short, that's fine. But my final visit was not fine. The stylist was going way too short and despite reminding the Hispanic woman who cut my hair that she was going too short she disregarded my concerns and kept cutting. I saw all the other negative reviews and was hesitant. But I have been yearning for a haircut since April and I wanted a lot cut off, plus this place was conveniently located near my hotel. After years of getting my hair cut shorter and shorter, I thought I was finally ready for a bob (although still a little nervous about going that short). So when I read the reviews that said the bespectacled Hispanic lady cut hair too short, I thought, "What's the worst that could happen? Hair grows, and if I get her I'll just tell her to cut it a little longer than I actually want. If she cuts more, I'll live." And wow. I got the bespectacled Hispanic lady. I went in with no expectations, and I was blown away. Just look at these pictures! (Excuse the face, since I wear my mask everywhere I don't bother to do makeup besides my eyes.) She let me see where she was going to make the first cut so I could okay it, and I really felt like she listened to what I said I wanted. She even gave me some styling tips! I think she did a great job. I absolutely love my new hair cut. If you're apprehensive, do what I did: Show her some pictures of the haircut you want, tell her why you like it (in my case, chin-length bob with some layering, but not too stacked in the back), and know what your hair is like. I don't tend to style my hair much and it usually just behaves. So I went in knowing that she wasn't going to pull some magic and give me movie-star perfect curls. I normally don't go to any hair salons. We have a family friend who's a stylist and she cuts our hair in her basement for a lot less money than any salon. However, with my 5 year old's class photos scheduled this week and our usually dependable stylist unavailable, we thought we'd come here for his haircut. Great Clips is located on Mannheim in the mall next to Allstate Arena, somewhere between Target and Coldstone Creamery. We walked in at 6:30 PM and there was no wait. Two stylists were available at the moment. My son hopped on a chair and he got a quick buzz-cut from Debbie in less than 20 minutes. We wanted to make sure the little "tail" he grows in back remained intact since we know our usual stylist dislikes the tail deep down inside... Debbie did a good job and reminded my son that the girls won't be able to stay away from him on picture day. During the haircut, my other son, the Stunt Baby, was occupied with a giant box of Mega Blocks in the corner of the waiting area, which kept him from jumping off of chairs or some other risky behavior. The salon is clean and the service is friendly. A kids cut cost only $11. The kids got lollipops at the end and we were off on our way in no time. While we won't be coming back anytime soon, I know we got a good place if our usual stylist is unavailable. read more

Crummy service. Seems like every time I come here they shorten the time they spend with you. Hurried cut, leaving hair all over your clothes, face, forehead. Don't even think about going back to work or anywhere after this cut except straight to a shower. Pathetic. And now let's talk about the actual haircut. Crappy to say the least. If zero stars were an option. Checked in on line, when we arrived I explained that my daughter needed a shampoo/blow dry. The girl that came up to the counter began to act strangely and rudely said she could do a shampoo and 'I can do a finger dry". Apparently they didn't have time to dry hair with a brush because they are having a hair cut sale and "customers for haircuts might come in" I have never heard of a business that didn't want to take your money for services. My daughter spent almost 2 months in a burn hospital and is unable to wash and blow dry her own hair. This was the most ridiculous display of customer service, I have ever experienced. Wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. I come to this location all the time and I had never been so angry. Today I got my hair cut with a lady called JIL. She was diabolically rude with me. I asked her if she would cut my sides and she got very bad when I ask her that and did not even answered my question. I ask her to cut my hair a little shorter and she was still very rude to me. I literally took 10 seconds to take a deep breath because she is a very old woman and I would never be disrespectful with a very old lady that could be my great-great-grandmother. At the end I told her that I had a coupon that Great Clips send me every time on my email and she did not even believe me and rolling her eyes she told me that I needed to pay 14.99 which I did and if I wanted to give tips. I would NEVER give tips to someone that treats people in a disrespectful way. How disappointing! But then what can you expect for an à la carte franchise hair salon. The service is subpar to mediocre at best. This was my second time there & the only reason I went there was because higher end salons are usually closed on Sunday & I needed a BLOW-OUT. My hair gets really frizzy in high heat & humidity so when I have a special occasion I'd like to get it blown-out. I go in & ask for a Blow-out and the receptionist proceeds to ask me if I would like to get my hair shampooed too. Ummmmmmmmm, doesn't that always come with a blow-out? What kinda salon is this? I am not sure what other services they offer & how those turn out, but I NEVER want to find out. I paid $47 for a Blow-out that was done by someone that barely spoke English, but insisting on making small talk with my anyway instead of concentrating on my hair. Then after the hair was dry & STILL FRIZZY like a freshly electrocuted poodle, she attempted to flat-iron my hair with a "dollar store quality" flat iron. She succeeded only in completely crunching & burning my hair. It took me another 30min of work at home to fix my hair into a more visually appropriate style. Well, you live & you learn. For that amount of money I could have driven to Old Orchard & went to Mario Tricoci which is also open on Sunday, but since I live in Des Plaines, I opted for something closer. Stopped in today for a haircut. I have been to great clips before so they have a write up on how I like my hair cut. Things seemed to be going smoothly when the lady cut off a large chunk of my hair. It was late and dark, so I paid for my haircut, tipped her and left. I get home to better light...the lines around my ears look like an impressionist painting. It is basically a buzz cut because she left so little of my hair long on the top of my head. I will never return to this location. Waist of time and money. Horrible service. Checked in online, arrived on time, and was asked at the counter if I checked in online to which I confirmed. Then sat there and was repeatedly skipped for 20 minutes beyond my time until had to ask why I was being skipped for people walking in without appointments and I was blamed for not checking in at the desk when the lady obviously failed to mark it after asking me initially. What is the point of an online app if you ignore those that use it? And where is the customer service to ask why 1 guy has been sitting there for 30 minutes while the person walking in now gets helped. read more

Went in to have about 2 inches cut off the bottom of my straight long hair. I asked her for a perfectly straight even bottom line cut. Also stated that I absolutely did not want the front to be any shorter then the back & that I did not want a curved look. Started with a shampoo which was optional by the way, and a conditioning treatment to detangle. The shampoo job was ok but I didn't think she rinsed much of the conditioner out. The Stylist didn't organize the hair very well as she was cutting it, and literally she finished in slightly over 5 minutes. When she was finished she showed me the results while my hair was still wet. Well , you can't tell anything when the hair is still wet. I guess at that point I was done and expected to leave. So I asked if she was able to blow dry it and style it which is pretty easy with straight hair that's all one length. She used the blow dryer and tossed my hair around with her fingers a little bit and then asked if that was ok. Now it was worse and even harder to tell if she cut it straight. My head was still very wet so I asked her to finish drying it. I think she was bothered by this because now a couple people had come in the front door and were waiting. She never used a brush to assist in the drying process. When she said she was done the 2nd time, I still had wet sections throughout my hair and it wasn't even brushed or combed to lay flat so there was no way to tell if this was a good haircut. Once I got home I rewashed my hair because it felt like there was still a sticky layer of conditioner left in it from the stylist, and I wanted to check and see if my hair was cut straight. After I dried and styled and smoothed my hair as I usually do I saw that the haircut was a disappointment and a fail ... It is NOT a continuous straight line, the front is shorter then the back and there are areas that are jagged throughout. So, skip this location if you're looking for a nice simple straight line . Mine turned out crooked and the overall experience was not great . The conversation she initiated was a downer too. All she talked about was cancer... I should probably go back and ask someone else if they'd be willing to correct my cut, but I'm reluctant thinking the place is really centered on the "quick get em in and get em out" business mode, not quality. I'm not sure why I even gave it a 2 star rating . It did however appear to be clean. read more

Been here twice. I had different styists each time but I don't mind not having the same stylist every time I get a hair cut. Service is always super friendly and courteous. The owner/manager (guy who greets customers) is always friendly & accomodating. Super clean place. Hair on the floor are swept/cleaned right away. Called ahead to set up appointment but owner said no appointment necessary for a hair cut. Service is straight-forward, quick, no muss/no fuss, and affordable (I believe approx. $15 per hair cut). I usually don't have to wait long, the cut is neat and even, the people are friendly, and the price is reasonable. Looks like they just remodeled so the salon is comfortable. So I just witnessed one of the most rude customers in my life at this great clips. I was patiently waiting for my haircut when this lady starts yelling at the one of the employees about how she's getting screwed in her prepaid haircuts. I don't know the background and whole story why she was so upset. It doesn't matter. There's absolutely no reason to yell across the store when the person you're speaking with is two feet away, especially when your children are with you. What a wonderful example to set for you kids. Throughout it all, the employee was professional, helpful and kept her calm. At one point she did end up tearing up, excused herself and walked to the back room to compose herself. The customer then complained and yelled about how she just left her and didn't resolve her problem. Ridiculous and embarrassing. She should be ashamed of herself, but she won't. She never will. She's ignorant to the world and will always think she's right no matter what and will teach those lessons to her kids. Let's continue the cycle. As for the employee? Thank you so much. If I could put no stars in I would. I went in here today with my mom. Both of us have been in before and had good and bad experiences. After today though, my entire family will NEVER return. I was there a month ago and the man who cut my hair did not really do what I asked. When I got home, I wasn't too happy but I decided to wait and see if it would grow on me. It didn't. And everyone I talked to about it said my hair looked uneven and everything I did didn't help. I went in today and started to explain how unhappy I was and the stylist began arguing with me about it. She told me I was wrong and that it wasn't uneven. I told her I had even consulted with another stylist before going in today and that the stylist said it was uneven and needed to be fixed. She continued to say I was wrong and I decided to get up and leave without a haircut. I'm not a big believer in "the customer is always right" but I do know that I am the one who has to style my hair everyday for work and no matter what I do it looked horrible. My teenage students could even tell that it was a bad cut. My mom received a haircut that was way shorter than she asked for and it was uneven as well. We will not ever return to this salon. We are currently at another place altogether and getting our hair fixed; we will go here from now on. read more
