When I walked into the salon and saw the decor and the enormous Christmas tree he designed and decorated himself, I knew I was in the right place and in good hands. He puts all of his creativity and energy into creating the perfect look. He was born to do this! It takes 1-2 months to get an appointment with Carlos himself, but it is well worth the wait. The other hairdressers in the salon appeared to be doing a wonderful job on their clients, as well. I have A LOT of hair, but he managed to do all-over highlights and lowlights with foils, cut, dry, and style my hair in 2 hours. Other stylists have taken 4-5 hours in the past for a less than satisfactory job. As long as I am fortunate enough to have him here in Johnson City, I will NEVER go to another salon for my hair. He is the shit. And I think his price is VERY reasonable for the level of service I received. My advice: make an appointment now, be patient and think about what you want your hair to look like, and then go to him and trust in him. If he makes suggestions, listen to him. He is an expert artisan.

What frustrated me even more was that the checkout system automatically required a 20% tip, with no option to leave a smaller tip or decline it. I understand tipping for good service, but I don't feel comfortable being forced into a 20% tip, especially after the price of the service had already increased significantly from the $60 I was originally quoted. If there were additional charges based on time and labor, I feel those should have been clearly explained before the service so I could make an informed decision about the cost.

I reached out right away, sent photos, and explained my concerns. The initial suggestion was that additional highlighting may be needed, and I was also told that an assistant could highlight it. After the original result and that proposed correction, I no longer felt comfortable having more chemical work done at the same salon and decided to get another professional opinion. I asked for at least a partial refund since I now have to pay another salon to assess and correct the color, but the salon declined because I did not return for an in-person reassessment. I understand businesses have policies, but as a client, I also think it is reasonable not to feel comfortable returning for additional chemical services after losing confidence in the result and proposed correction. I'm sharing this so others can make an informed decision. I would recommend taking clear before/after photos, asking exactly who will be performing each step of the service, and clarifying the salon's refund/correction policy before booking. I would also recommend asking for a full price breakdown before any service begins. I was not given the full pricing until I checked out, which added to the frustration.
