I have gone a few times to this shop before as a walk-in and every single time I get cut by a different lady in the salon but I always leave satisfied . They are all so great at what they do and the pricing is amazing!! I used to go to the more expensive salons and none of them have left me LOVING my hair afterwards like this place. This is just for the amazing shampoo service that literally saved my hair. Last night I tried the Lush Superbalm and it was a bad mistake. I couldn't wash it out of my hair despite shampooing 3 times last night and another 5 times this morning. My hair was sticky and a waxy mess that looked worse than Snape's greasy hair. Thankfully Areli was able to get most of the product out with clarifying shampoo and even offered tips on how to get rid of the remaining residue. Go here if you wanna go bald for no reason! The particular staff who operated, doesn't really listen to clear instructions and does not really understand what's asked. Despite explanation & previous pics for references, they could not really understand what kinda haircut one is asking for! They could go their way to chop off your hairs. I used to go to premium barber shops that would charge 30 to 40 dollars per haircut but everytime I went there, the stylists would try and change up the style that I wanted because they didn't like what I wanted. I went to several different high end barber shops in search of a barber that would just give me what I wanted but to no avail. One day, I just decided to come to this Great Clips and the stylists here always listened to what I wanted and they gave me what I liked. Then one day I had Kim cut my hair and she re-styled me in the best possible way. Now everytime I come here I only ask for Kim because she goes well beyond the scope of her duties as a barber. She even takes the time to ensure that she did has met my expectations and more! I now have a new barber and it will always be here at Great Clips. Thank you Kim and all of your team members! I've been going to this place for decades and for a long time had been happy with the haircuts. Now that I have switched my haircut to a shorter style the stylists here seem incapable or unwilling to cut it as short as I ask. I got a good haircut with the new style once and have gone back 3 times since then and each time I have been very unhappy with the haircut and need to try and correct it myself at home. I agree with other reviews that the stylists here seem very set in what they can/will do and will cut your hair in a way they are comfortable with regardless of what you ask for. read more

I loved my visit to GC. Areli was so professional. I just wanted a trim and get rid of some dead ends, but she went above and beyond. She recommended small layers and got rid of split ends. I received a haircut here about 10 days ago, and had checked my bank statements this morning. Noticing that the amount I was charged was different than what I had actually paid. I then went and checked my receipt to verify what I had paid (cost+tip) noticing that who ever had processed it had added money onto the transaction. If anyone else has had this happen too, then I would venture to say we are all being stolen from. I'm extremely disappointed to say that after having been a customer since this location opened. Decided to come here instead of the usual location in Sunnyvale. The experience was ok. It looks like the Sunnyvale location is not correctly connected to the Great Clips network. The stylist could not find any notes from the Sunnyvale location regarding how my hair is normally cut, etc. Several different stylists at the Sunnyvale location have done my hair and I've been happy with each and every one of them. I was not really "feeling" my haircut from this spot. So, I will just stick to the Sunnyvale spot. read more

After a very nice conversation that included an apology for a rude reception, I've changed this review from one star to five. Kim is a very good hairstylist and Laura a very courteous and professional owner. Be sure to question the validity of coupons prior to expecting them to be honored. There are apparently unscrupulous coupon companies that post fake coupons. This should not be a reflection on the businesses that are also victims. I have been going here for years and unfortunately I have to call it quits. On average 1 out of 4 haircuts are meh/sub-par(depending on who you get to cut your hair). Sometimes they are slow and you get a decent haircut, and others they are rushed and pay less attention to detail. This past week I went in for my usual cut - which varies on how it is performed, but usually comes out kind of similar. A 1 to a 2 blended on the side and a slight trim on top. *slow day* 1. My head moved significantly every stroke of the clippers. 2. Due to the force used with the clippers, the stylist lacked precision and buzzed about one whole inch further than she should have on the back on the head... and then tried to even it out( without acknowledgement), she kind of fixed it but ended up having to take more off of other areas. 3. She asked how I wanted my sideburns - and suggested no sideburns - to which I replied, sure. I'm pretty laid back when it comes to the specifics of my hair. I just like to look decent at work. Tapered or straight line - sideburns or no sideburns, I do not care. She ended up trimming one and forgetting the other. I fixed it with my razor and beard trimmer when I got home so no sweat. - I didn't mention any of this when I was there because I have always felt on the spot in the barber chair with your hair/image in someone else's hands. I usually grab my beard trimmer when I'm home and get the loose ends. My wife has told me for years to stop going, but I am a creature of habit. I will say that Jimmy has provided amazing haircuts in the past and will recommend him to people I know who go in. I guess now I have to pay $30 for a good haircut now. read more

The owner reached out to me after I left my review to apologize for Kim. Apparently she was a temp to step in for someone who was taking time off due to health reasons. After I requested a refund, she granted that and offered a free haircut to fix my disaster. Unfortunately I was only home for the holidays so I could not take her up on the offer. I still stand by my advice to remember who has given you good haircuts and request them. If you don't remember either ask the manager for a recommendation or ask for your history or who you've had previously Great clips still has a 4/5 from me with 0.5 stars taken off for Kim (since she's not a regular) and rounded up since I can't give half stars read more

I am not a picky person when it comes to my hair, but I do expect a decent level of customer service from any place I visit. The first thing that happened when I walked in is the person at the desk asked me if I had been to their salon before, to which I replied, "no." He then asked me for my phone number, with no explanation why. I reluctantly gave it to him (I later found out they do it so that they can put your name, phone, and cut numbers into their database). If you're going to any kind of information from the customer, there'd better be an explanation beforehand. An old lady was the one picked to cut my hair, and from the moment I sat down, she started giving me attitude. She made a really negative remark about my hair. Since when is customer service about making the customer feel bad? As she was cutting my hair, she chatted with the person next to me. It was clear she didn't care about my hair. She probably thought I was a high school student and that it was okay to provide a bad haircut for me since I wouldn't really mind. After she was done cutting, I was left with little hair, and an extremely uneven cut. I have these random hairs that stick out and are almost twice as long as the other ones. I sometimes feel like a old timer here when I come here to get my hair cut in the weekends. This place is frequented by mothers bringing their kids to get a hair cut. But I come here just to get a reliable and consistent hair cut, as they keep all your preferences stored in their computers. The staff there is nice and friendly. Also, I get the impression that all their staff people had prior training, so I've never felt like my head has been a ginny pig for the trainees fresh out of hair styling school. When I said I wanted short on the side and somewhat longer on top, the woman who destroyed my youthful good looks looked at me, slightly confused, then laughed and said, "No, #3." Then, she tried to convince me that the #3 she suggested was actually too short and that I wanted "finger-length" on top, which seemed reasonable to me until it turned out that her fingers were about four centimeters thick. Unfortunately, I only realized this after she sheared off a chunk of hair. By the time she was done, my hair was pretty much completely buzzed, except for five individual hairs that she kept the original length, though whether that was as a fashion statement or because Great Clips has a deep-seated commitment to being awful at everything, I could not say. Have to sing Areli's praises. I am new to the area and decided to try a cosmetology school for a bob haircut. I've had this haircut before and know how it is supposed to look and feel. Unfortunately, the cosmetology school cut was a bust. The angle and overall shape of the cut was just wrong. Panicking, I went to the nearest Great Clips in hopes that a stylist could fix the damage enough to tide me over until I could get a salon appointment. Enter Areli. II've shopped at Piazza's for years, but never ventured into this side of the Charleston Mall before. And yet, on this rainy Sunday afternoon, I'm feeling unkempt. I don't have a 'stylist' on this side of the hill (I've lived for the past 22 years in Santa Cruz) and hate the thought of walking into some chi-chi place where they'll at least sneer, if not try to sell me Expensive Hair Product. I see Great Clips and think "what's the worst that could happen?" As luck would have it, the first person in my line of sight was Evonne, the only grown-up (read: my age!)-looking haircutter in the joint. I told her I liked my basic cut, needed a major trim and more layers. She delivered exactly what I wanted and I left, $19 poorer (I tipped big -- why not?), looking like myself on a good hair day, sans Expensive Hair Product. Perfect outcome!
