Do not let Lisa cut your hair. She absolutely ruined mine. I said 1/2 inch, she cut 1 1/2 inches. Even worse, she only finished one side, literally. And while cleaning the neck area, she smoothly got everything, but at the end it truly seemed like she intentionally gouged the trimmer into my neck. It bled and was swollen for 2 days. It was the entire length of the trimmer blade. The overall experience was terrible. I went back the next day and her coworker was nice enough to finish it. She evened things out, but she couldn't do anything about it being cut too short and just oddly. read more

Ran into a problem trying to use the online coupons. Both said good til 10/27, but only one coupon worked... happened to my son last time too. Pretty frustrating... ugh. Being that it's the first time coming here after the shelter-in-place order has been lifted, I was in dire need of a haircut! I came in right when it opened and was immediately given a couple of spritz of hand sanitizer. There was no wait and the hair stylists all wear masks and gloves with some even wearing a face shield. Anita gave me a refreshing and well needed haircut. She's very pleasant and cuts hair at a caliber that is fitting for a high-end salon. I will definitely be going back to get my haircut from her. On a side opinion note, I feel it's more convenient to wear a mask that has a single elastic strap around the neck than around the ears since it might be easier for them to avoid hitting it with their clippers. read more

You figure since she's the main person running this place she'd have a better sense of customer service. Against better judgement I went for a haircut. The first time, which I said would be my last, I got a horrible haircut. Horrible. My mom urged me to try again, and it was a bad idea. I had longer hair with lots of texture layered in. When the woman cut my hair, she took out all of the texture, and cut all of my hair down to 1 medium length. My "bangs" being a straight line across my forehead. It's quite literally a very basic bowl cut. I won't return. Awful haircut. read more

Bad hair month! Thanks, Great Slips. In the past I showed an "after" photo to the hair cutter so the haircut would be satisfactory. This time i didn't and now I'm paying the price for trusting the cutter. I verbally described the need to keep my ears covered with hair at the top. But Attena (sure can't spell her name) apparently forgot and gave me a buzz cut on the sides and long on top. That's a good haircut for middle-schoolers, but not a 66 year-old man. DAMN MAD! I have my regular hairdresser but when I need to have my hair trimmed, I go to Great Clips in Lafayette, CA. The hairdresser who is a Filipina has an attitude and her face shows it! Even if you double the payment (that means 100% tip), she still has an attitude. This person should not be serving customers! read more

5 stars to Anita - always very good. She takes her time and the cut still looks good weeks later. 2 stars for Sharon... just got a cut from her and its not good. But worse, she was rushing and using such force that it was painful when she was using the electric razor. I felt like we were in a sheep shearing contest and I was the poor little lamb. I came in for a trim last week. My hair is very long, halfway down my back. I just asked for 4 inches off. From the start, the lady was very rude, comparing my "very dry hair" to her hair. She made me comb my own hair because she claimed she couldn't brush it because it was so knotty (?!) Then she wanted to cut my hair dry, but I insisted on having my hair wet. The entire experience was really negative, she kept clicking her tongue and complaining that my hair was so dry. It gets worse though... When I got home, I noticed that the right side of my hair was (no exaggeration!) 2 inches SHORTER than the left side!!! I came in the next day and asked to have my hair evened out. The lady was there again, but she made a new guy trim my hair because I think she was embarrassed. As he evened my hair out, I asked if that lady had just started cutting hair. He said no, that she was there for 10 years! As I walked out (with my hair evenly trimmed this time), she said "See I told you, you should have let me cut your hair dry". What a mean nasty person! I don't think this woman should be allowed to trim women's hair. I can only imagine what a hack job it would be if she was asked to do something more intricate like layers... I have been going to Great Clips for years, well about 10. I recently stopped and here's why: The turnover of stylists is just unreal. Just when I latch on to one that I like, who understands a man's short hair style (read "STYLE" not, "BUZZ CUT"), poof- they're gone. I have heard from other stylists (who are no longer there) the owner is really controlling...and suspicious of his staff, to the point of having cameras everywhere and heaven help the stylist if they trimmed a hair off my moustache but didn't charge me the extra $10 or whatever. I can think of 5 excellent stylists over the past few years who are no longer there. What a bummer... read more

Every time I come I get to save time by checking in ahead of time (so I don't have to wait long before getting my cut). They also have saved the haircut I got last time so I don't have to try to describe it. I just want to set the record straight. I don't come here. My bf does whenever he needs a trim. With that said, it's a great place for men haircut, especially if you have a coupon. Check the local newspaper and there should be one somewhere inside every few weeks. I wouldnt recommend coming here if you're a female, unless you want a simple trim. They rotate their workers a lot so be prepare for a new barber when you come in. Call ahead to see if the one you want is still working. Keep in mind that the person who cuts hair isn't a stylist, but a barber. In the end, you can walk out with a good haircut or not so good one. You get what you pay for, which is why I recommend bringing in a coupon. If you want to save even more money, head over to Oakland Chinatown for an almost identical cut. I hear SF Chinatown also has a couple of places that offer $5 haircuts. Great Clips accepts walk ins and credit cards. It's located right across the street from Safeway and Rite-aid and next to a Starbucks and a sushi restaurant. read more
