If you want a terrible haircut then this is the place. Uneven and poorly blended cuts are their speciality. I used to get good cuts here years ago so every once in a while I try my luck again. Occasionally a good stylist will be in but they turn over often. The one stylist who's been there the longest? She's a total hack who has shown no improvement over the years. Last time I tried my luck was the last. They had a highly skilled stylist who had previously given me a great haircut pushing a broom while the veteran hack was terrorizing customers' noggins. When I suggested the pro give me a haircut the hack insisted she do the job. I had to return a few days later to get my hair fixed and the stylist who did it was not new to fixing the work of others. My sense is that this shop is a toxic workplace that cannot keep good talent due to an abusive owner or manager. read more

I normally come in every couple weeks on my lunch break to get my haircut, today when I went in my hairdresser was asking me how my day was and such, I could barley hear over the loud girl behind us. I've never had this issue here before and I would not have said anything but it was very unprofessional. I glanced in the mirror and saw a blonde haired girl that was practically yelling at her customer while telling him a story. The look on his face could only be described as pure horror. In a pinch not a bad place for a trim but I would not do more than a wash/blowout or trim and that is what my three is based on. They don't do a good job of listening if you want more or they say they know what you mean but don't do it. I was very descriptive about the bang trim I needed and she said, "like this?" And showed me a picture on the internet. My bangs were way too short and fluffy once she was done. If you can't do something, don't say you can. And if you screw it up better to stop and ASK the client if she wants you to fix it by going shorter or not. Honestly, I would have told her to just keep them uneven and too long and pinned them back for a few weeks rather than get the embarrassing bang cut I did. read more

I don't usually like to make complaints but, I have been a long time customer of the Great Clips in Dexter, MI. My past visit on 10/16 was my worst experience yet. I understand that Great Clips has a high turn over for what ever reason. I don't mind getting the new styles fresh out of school who may struggle with learning how to cut hair. I DO have an issue with the so call new manager. As I stated I've been a long time client and in the last year alone this location has gone through 5 managers! And I have to say the new one has struck a nerve. She did not great me as I walked in. Unless you consider a glare as a welcoming tool. She was rude and bluntly asked for my name or number. She did not tell me how long my wait was so I had to assume. So, unfortunately she was giving me my hair. The entire time she talked about herself! I don't care you are the new manager. I don't care you are short staffed. I don't care you are obviously having a bad day. I do care that you never told me you name. I do care that you didn't show me my neckline so when I went home my wife had to fix! And I would hope as manager you wouldn't just run your mouth and just simply do a good quality hair cut. Ive tried now several times to come to this location and all I can say is.... horrible. I've noticed a MAJOR change since new owners have taken over this location. All the girls there are forced to work extremely fast, my son had been called back the last time and i timed it, it was a whole 7 minutes and 20 seconds from the time they called his name until I payed for his haircut. When I asked why they don't take their time I was told it was their policy to give the fastest haircut possible or they risk being fired. Are you kidding me? These are people that your using sharp tools on ... you would think that they would take a little more time when using such tools especially around young children. But I'm guessing they are paid slave wages and expected to do 20 plus haircuts in a shift (I've overheard them talking about "only doing 20 haircuts" that day like it was no big deal as in they needed to do more to make decent money) I wish I could say otherwise but it's been a disaster every time. The stylists aren't bad... but don't expect to be relaxed. Even when I payed for a shampoo and blowout style it was done so quickly it didn't look or feel good. I wanted to buy the shampoo she used but they didn't have it in stock... shocker. When I've asked the main manager questions she has been so unbelievably sarcastic and rude. She's a young girl in her 20s and I'm an older woman when did people lose respect for their elders or at least respect for your customers. My family members and myself will never return. At least until someone else runs that dump. It's great clips quit sticking your noses up like your running a palace because I can assure you I would rather go to a hair school if i want a cheap rushed unsanitary haircut or style, and I must add this summer it's been sweltering hot in there the poor girls often have sweat beads rolling down their faces so I asked my stylist if they were allowed to dress down (I noticed all of them were wearing long pants and layers of clothing underneath their aprons) I was told they had a dress code in place and weren't allowed to touch the thermostat and myself a customer I was hot and I was in shorts and a tee shirt... again I feel bad for these girls. So many things in this place that are wrong I don't have the time to write them here all I can say is, buyer beware. Take your families and kids to a different place. These owners are so cheap they can't even hire a receptionist and several times during my service I was left so they could "check in" other clients. Absolutely unprofessional rude and I'm disgusted. I know it wasn't the stylists fault, as the stylists have no control over the owners rules. I just might make a few phone calls to the actual franchise who may do something about the horrible aspects and rules this salon goes by. Definitely not a salon at all. I'd call it a 5 minute get ur hair whacked off and then your lucky if you look decent. Again I don't blame the stylists I actually feel really bad for them. read more

Great place to stop by and get your haircut nice and quick, however I was in a few days ago and the lady I had was extremely rude I believe her name is Kayla she has short hair. I usually get a scissor cut all over and I know it takes some time of course. When she was finished she asked me if it was short enough I asked if you could take a little more and she got a rude loud tone with me saying "You want to go shorter?" And I said yes she then breathed heavy and rolled her eyes and continued to cut. I'm sorry but you asked me if I would like to go shorter and I said yes. read more

While I do understand that the stylists have a certain time limit on the hair cuts that they do, they really do need to be checking their haircuts to make sure that they are evenly cut. I took my son in to get his hair cut the other day. Yes, he's two years old and needs me to hold him while he gets his hair cut. Yes, he cries, but he doesn't thrash around. She wasn't even going to use the trimmers around his ears until I held his ears back and showed her the spots that she missed. It was a #3 guard, so of course it needs to be trimmed around the ears. At the end I asked if she was going to use the trimmers on his neck. She said, "I guess, but he needs to hold still." He was still. I think she was just afraid that he might move, but she should have still used the trimmers without question. Even after she was done, I noticed when we got home that there were a few spots that she missed. The top is uneven, but I think that's because she didn't know how to properly check a haircut. I do tip fairly well (it was a $12 haircut; I gave her an $8 tip) because I think that most stylists do the best they can, even if it isn't perfect. I really do think that the stylists need more training. Again, I understand that they need to meet their time requirements, so I don't blame the stylist entirely. read more

I was in there Sunday afternoon and I was very displeased with the stylist that my son had. Normally my ex-husband brings him in, but on occasion I do bring him in. My son had the stylist dani cut his hair and needless to say I and my ex-husband will not be bringing him back. I was completely horrified by this "professional". Not only was she extremely loud and talking so much but her clothes showed she was not professional at all. They were too small for her because every time she bent over her butt crack was showing and her boobs were falling out of her shirt. My son is very young and does not need to see that stuff neither does anyone else. So that did not appeal to me one bit. Her actions of performing the service was very "wild". She kept flinging her arms around and my son told me he was scared she was going to cut him and that she was very rough with him. And the whole time she was talking so loud that it was almost yelling! And she wouldn't stop talking, then she tried talking to me about her sister, her house, and her fiancé and I really don't care. Why would I care about anything she has to say with her arms flinging everything and her voice so loud when I concerned about my son and his haircut. As I sat in the lobby I had another parent mention to me that maybe this stylist should talk softer and not be so anxious. I couldn't agree more! While this other parent and myself were talking we could barely hear each other because dani was so loud, and the parent made a comment that she felt unsure if she liked being here with that stylist here! As a result my son will not be returning to this location due to this stylist acting like a child and being so loud it's uncomfortable to be in there. read more
