And now some of my hair is breaking off along the hairline, which prompted my doctor to tell me to go get a good haircut while we work on that. But of course, where to go? I mentioned my dilemma to an acquaintance, who promptly suggested Tangles, and specifically Gerri. I called, and was aghast to learn from Stephanie, their ever-friendly receptionist, that I wouldn't be able to get in on an evening or weekend for something like eight weeks. However, she patiently worked with me (and put up with several meandering phone calls!) and we eventually settled on a lunchtime appointment some six weeks out (never mind that, while I live 5 minutes from Tangles, I work 20 minutes away). Fast forward to the actual appointment. I arrived a few minutes early, was greeted by Stephanie, and told that Gerri would be right out, which indeed she was. She promptly exclaimed "Oh, I knew so-and-so was sending me someone, and I'm so glad it's you!", gave me a hug, took my purse to stash in a safe place, and settled down to examine my hair. And that, my friend, is where I was really impressed. Gerri took the time to listen to exactly why I hate my hair and what my doctor told me, combed it out to look at it, and suggested a bob with side-swept bangs that would both improve the look of the breakage while shortening the length that it would need to grow out to. She proceeded to shampoo me herself (I hate the hoity-toity places that have special shampoo people) and give me exactly that cut, which I absolutely LOVE. I'll let Gerri's words speak for themselves: "I'm on Team Karen. I would never do anything to to you that won't look fantastic." The grand total for such amazing service and skills? $30. I would have happily paid twice that and not batted an eye, it was that good. Before I left, Gerri gave me her card and made sure Stephanie got me scheduled for an evening appointment 9 weeks out, so I'm good to go. So if you need a stylist, give Tangles a call. I'm super picky about who does my hair and had been going to the "it" stylist in Miami for a decade before coming home to Memphis. Anyways I wasn't picky who I went to and got Matched with Margaret. She is sooo on point and knew what to do without me giving that much instruction. I have really long thick hair which can be a pain for stylists to work with, yet she tackles it with ease. The other thing I love is that she's so uplifting. I feel so happy when I see her and get excited when I get to go to her. I also was on a reality show and had her touch me up and get me "stage ready" and honestly my hair was on point the whole time.
