Was told they don't service bikes from China. Was not even welcome into their shop. They claim they denied me service due to my bike, not having the proper UL 2849 certification. First impressions are everything. Then the owner immediately responded to my Google review very defensive and began making claims without any verification. It seems that they preffer a specific clientele. So if you don't have a very expensive namebrand E bike don't even bother going. My bike had fallen over and I bent my derailer. I thought I could stop in a local shop and see if they could help me either straighten it or offer any type of replacement part. People know when they are not wanted. And I did not feel at all welcomed at any point during the interaction. There are better bike shops in town. Instead of offering to do anything to make it right. They would rather stand behind their claims of insurance issues or a component, I wasn't even requesting service for. Nobody is entitled to a good review. I would recommend the Great Bicycle Shop to anyone . They provide excellent service and are very helpful. I bought an Aventon Aventure 2 e-bike about two weeks ago and had it assembled here. They assembled it perfectly, but while I was riding home, I ran over a piece of glass. I brought it back in and got some tire inserts to protect against sharp objects. After leaving, I noticed my front brakes were clicking loudly when I tried to use them. I brought it back in again, and they replaced my brake pads and rotor for free. The staff is incredibly friendly and honestly makes you feel like you've known them for a while with how personable they all are. Not only are they super knowledgeable and helpful, but the prices of their bikes match what the manufacturer sells them for! They let you test ride as many bikes as you like and are super patient with test riding, they tell you "Try as many as you like!", so you can try out a bike in person and buy it same day for the price you would online! Of them all, great bicycle shop on Thomasville Road is the only one that has really knowledgeable people working there who can help you find just the right bike for the kind of places that you want to go on your bike. And even better, the staff there know how to adjust the bike you choose to fit your body size and comfort style. Their stock of bikes in the store is huge, plus they have more bikes in their warehouse that can be put together in a couple days if you need a size or color that they don't already have on display! This is not a long review, but I think it is an important one. About 2 years ago we bought two new mountain bikes from Great Bicycle and were happy with the bikes, the price and the service. Doug was, and is, an incredibly knowledgeable and helpful salesperson and bike technician. We then started to go out for weekly rides, until an injury sidelined us. Then, the pandemic sidelined us longer. So these wonderful mountain bikes have been sitting in the garage, unused, for the past 18 months. Now that we are starting to emerge from the pandemic, I want to start getting back into riding. So I took my bike down to them for a tuneup. Ely was fantastic. I told him I wanted to get a tuneup as it was sitting for a year. At a minimum the tubeless tires needed sealant and to be inflated. He looked at the bike and asked if I could wait a moment while he took an initial look and he put it up on the stand. He looked it all over, testing the chain and brakes, looking at the cables, ensuring the rims were true, etc. Wen he was done he said that he would absolutely NOT encourage me to get a tuneup as it wasn't needed. He said a little cleaning, some tire sealant and inflation was all that was needed. So he then started to do all of that. 15 minutes later the bike was good to go! Total cost: Under $11. He **easily** could have just taken the bike in for the tuneup that I requested and have charged me probably $100 or so. And I would have been happy, as that was what I asked for. Instead, he told me what I really needed which only cost a few dollars. That is incredible integrity and speaks highly to him and the Great Bicycle team. Rather than make a few extra bucks they instead now have a customer for life (well....they had that already based on the initial sale), and one who will happily sing their praises. This experience was lacking in every aspect of trying to buy a bicycle. Because of a very poorly updated website, there was a terrible breakdown in communication. Expectations were set and only one out of the four requested bikes was ultimately shown to us. The men's bikes were not the colors I had chosen online and there was no attempt to see if the bike's fit either of us. The result left us feeling looked down upon, lied too, and a burden that they couldn't wait to be rid of. PS. I never did get to try a 27.5in wheel at this shop. I've only been biking for a few months, and am mainly making adjustments to bikes that are loaned to me - the Great Bicycle Shop are always clear and honest (sometimes to the point of being blunt) about what's doable, what the timeframe will be, and how they can save me money. I think they know that they're making a loyal customer! My one quibble would maybe be that if dealing with a customer who's wearing a mask, pull yours on? Once, way back in 2005, I confess to having purchased a cycle at Sports Authority in the TLH Mall, but that was way back when I didn't know any better. These guys have a substantial inventory and expertise on tap. What's more, they have a great approach to customer service that is unrivaled elsewhere in TLH. I sent them an e-mail and they answered my questions on a day they were closed. Nice touch. When I arrived to pick up my rental, the guy running the store was very helpful. He made sure the mountain bike I rented was tuned and ready to go, and even put on 29 inch wheels for me and flat pedals (I had forgotten to pack my bike shoes). Very accommodating. Had a very poor experience with the Great Bicycle shop these last couple days. My wife's birthday is coming up and she really wanted to get a bike. Researched for days for the one she would like and found it. Went online to purchase the bike and was happy they had it, so I thought. It was at night when we bought it and I figured I'll call in the morning and ask when to pick it up. I did, they said they received the order and they would call me later that day for me to pick it up. I was busy at work and didn't get a chance to follow back up and thought it was weird that I didn't receive a call. Call the next morning and they say they are still looking for the bike...... then 5 minutes later someone calls back and says they might not have it and he is looking for something comparable to it and will call right back. So I waited 2 hours and no call back. Decided to call myself and just wanted a refund. Talked to someone besides the manager and said I wanted a refund. They said a manager would do it since she didn't know how. I said I would be fine waiting on the phone to talk to them. The same lady picks back up a minute later and says they refunded it. A manger didn't even get on the phone to apologize or offer me whatever they thought was comparable. I'm glad I didn't give this bike shop my business. Terrible customer service. read more

I'd been trying to find a bike in the New Orleans area for months. I'm short and needed and x-small, so that added to the existing difficulty in finding one. I signed up at Giant to be notified of any Livs in my size available, and eventually, they notified me of stock at GBS, and almost $200 less than the same bike I was waiting on (a 6 month wait) in NOLA (not to knock my local bike shop!). We were taking a trip to FL, so I called them up & after purchasing online, they agreed to hold it for me "till whenever." Made it there yesterday and couldn't be happier to have made the trip! I went in today after realizing that Higher Ground was closed on Mondays (is it a salon or something?). The folks at Great were super friendly and gave me options. My bike seemed like it was losing air and they pumped it for me and let me take it food to try it out before just charging me to replace the tubes. On March 30th I contacted The Great American Bicycle Shop. I told the representative the size and number of tires I needed for my tandem and that I wanted 4 tubes in addition to the 2 tires. The representative stated they would be in on Wednesday. I told him I would come on Thursday but gave him my number to call me if there were any problems since I had a 50 mile one way trip. When I arrived on 04/02/ 20 they only had one tire. I asked why I was not called but all the man at the shop was it was not our fault. After a somewhat tense interaction with the manager I left. At no time did the say they were sorry or offer any suggestions to fix the problem. I am 65 years old and have never written a negative review. The people were both uncaring and unhelpful. They seemed to think I was doing them a favor by just snowing up. I can see why one of there locations has already closed! read more

I've had issues with getting a hole in my tube near the valve. I thought I needed a new cloth liner on my bike rim so they told me to bring in my tire for them to look at and analyze it. They didn't charge me for analyzing the tire and showed me how to put the tire on correctly. It turned out that my cloth liner was good and I wasn't pinching my tube. I wasn't stabilizing the valve when pumping the tube which was putting too much pressure on it creating a hole. The lady employees were friendly over the phone and in person which made me feel more comfortable. The boss was super helpful in answering my questions and making sure I put the tube on correctly. As an independent woman, I like to know how to do things the correct way so I can do it myself. I highly recommend this shop. They sell a variety of tube types/brands, tire liner, velox rim liner, and tire repair kit. However, they don't sell patches separately. read more

I called several shops in Tallahassee to get a quote for how much it would cost to pack up my road bike for shipping. GBS was the only place that could tell me the cost out right. Everywhere else said it would depend on the bike and even the lowest end of their range was more expensive than GBS. All I had to do was to drop off my bike and email them the packing slip from BikeFlights and they took care of the rest. I didn't have to go back to pick up the bike box or pay extra to have FedEx pick it up because GBS took care of the hand off for me. They also did a great job packing up my bike. I purchases a bike one year ago. Only about 100 miles on it now (Feb '18). Garage kept. Had to take it in 3 or 4 times to have the wheel bearings replaced or repacked because they start grinding and progressively get worse until I take it in. I believe I may have a lemon bike. Asked for refund or just replace the bike. Management says the manufacture will not allow that. As the owner it seems he could replace it after looking at the number of times I brought the bike in for the exact same problem each time. I loved the bike before all this started happening.
