02/12/25 - Tortas Frontera Grill. This is a Rick Bayless restaurant in O'Hare International…read moreAirport. Rick Bayless has built himself a restaurant w/award winning restaurants like Frontera Grill & Topolobambo. The first time I got food from Tortas Frontera to take on the plane as it was a domestic flight that wasn't serving food so I thought I would grab a Cubaba Clasica & take it on the plane, BIG MISTAKE. This sandwich is meant to be eaten on the spot & not later When I went back the second time on 02/12/25 I ordered the same Cubana Clasica - Carnitas, smoked pork lion, bacon, jack cheese, chipotle mustard & pickled onions. This time I ate it before boarding the plane. It was delicious & meant to be eaten right away When ordering it's better eaten right away. I learned my lesson the hard way taking it on the plane instead of eating it right away. There are three Tortas Frontera locations at O'Hare International Airport (ORD), located in Terminals 1, 3, and 5. Founded by Chef Rick Bayless, these popular, high-quality sandwich spots are found at the following locations within the secure area:Terminal 1: Near Gate B10/B11Terminal 3: Near Gate K4Terminal 5: Near Gate M18

I am confident of that. If it weren't in a ticketed area, I would consider running out here occasionally just for a torta. Most of the time, we fly in the morning and find ourselves planning to arrive a little early to ensure we have time to enjoy a breakfast torta. The avocado, egg, and rajas is my go to, but the chorizo is excellent too. Definitely slather the torta with that green salsa/chimichurri that comes with it. Tons of flavor. Superior black coffee here too. They serve Dark Matter coffee, and they're brewing it perfectly. I used to run to the Intelligentsia over at Concourse C for coffee, but I realized a while ago that I dont need to. My torta was $14.30 this morning. You will spend that on a prepackaged tray of cheese and crackers at Hudson News and be sad all day. This place is still an excellent value. The service is always incredibly nice and efficient. If you have time, grab a table or seat at the bar. Just walk past the line for takeout and let them know at the bar that you want to dine in. Great guacamole with fresh chips too. Bonus that the little TV in the corner is always playing Rick Bayless' cooking show. His cadence is always so soothing.

They prepare sandwiches to order, so you know the assembled sandwiches haven't been sitting around all day. The line was out the door and spilled into the terminal when I arrived, but it moved quickly. I do wish the staff were communicative ... at the right time. They were out of burrata, but wasn't told until after paying and waiting a few minutes. The right time to tell me would have been before ringing up my order. I requested the Scorsese. I may have set my expectations too high. I anticipated a sandwich much like a similar looking one I had at Eataly in Las Vegas. This one lacked the same flavor. It wasn't bad, just not memorable. With tax, it came to about $20, so I hoped for full flavor ... airport pricing or not. Would I visit again? Maybe. Maybe not. Prior to forking over money, I'll be sure they at least have all the components of my order in stock.

The line to order moved incredibly slow, and then the wait for already-ordered food was somehow even longer. If you're cutting it close before boarding, grab something else because this can easily eat up way more time than you think. There's other food options in this terminal.

I ordered my sandwiches and then walked around, taking in the location/store that my hubby had so many memories at. I see there is an area with slots in the connecting room next door. Upon arriving home only to find there was not any Italian dressing on either sandwich or surprisingly in the salad. The sandwiches and salad were dry until we added our own Italian dressing, and the salad is spicy, not refreshing at all. It wasn't until we finished eating that we did a search and found that the family sold the store a while back due to the passing of the original owner. We can say we tried it but will not return. Simply not the same.

Well I took Friday off and made this a bucket list to make a comparison to Old School Manny's deli…read moreand cafeteria. Surprisingly the food for their corned beef deli is delicious in another way. Quality was good it's not as greasy or thick as Manny's corned beef which you'll have a food coma if you ate a whole corned beef or pastrami sandwich over there here the way they make their sandwich is similar to Jason's deli if anybody remembers Jason's deli. Jason's deli was not bad but it wasn't greasy if you're the type that likes greasy salty corned beef if it's done right like Manny's then that's what you should go otherwise if you don't like that feel this might not be a restaurant or cafeteria to eat at. The corned beef in regards to quality their Mile high corned beef was light and delicious it's fresh too just like Manny's but not greasy and heavy. I have seen this on Facebook as well and they're Italian versus being a kosher Jewish and they've been around too but not as old as Manny's since they've been around since 1960 whereas Manny's has been around since 1942 and is as old as my parents. Ambience was very casual and friendly it was my first time I had a dress to the cashier it's not really a cafeteria style but you can still sit down and eat I would most likely come back also because of the prices since Manny's tends to be expensive for their sandwiches. This was expensive too but then again I ordered a chili and a tiramisu I was going to get a potato salad just to find out they had soups. If you're around Franklin Park in like Mom and Pop delis this is another good option and don't want to drive to Chicago for Manny's and an alternative to Jason's deli in oakbrook or in Chicago surprise I did not know the other Jason's deli at the four stars. Being an Italian deli it's going to be a bit more limited to certain kosher dishes so don't expect to have knish or matzo ball soup but they will have chicken noodle soup.

I remember it was a gem and couldn't wait to go to their airport cafe during my layover in Chicago. I walked and walked and walked to reach the Berghoff Cafe. It is located in Terminal 1, Concourse C, near gate 26 and it was TOTALLY WORTH THE WALK! Of course, I had the REUBEN. The fellow sliced up several thick slices of REAL corned beef and put it on homemade rye bread and added sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. He pressed it in a panini press. Then added the Thousand Island dressing. This was served to me in a TO GO BOX along with a pickle. It was absolutely delicious and very filling. The atmosphere was very nice with wood tables, a wood bar, checkered floor, etc. I wish though, that my EAT IN ORDER was placed on a plate. Everyone was eating out of boxes. This didn't fit the ambiance. THIS WAS THE BEST REUBEN I have had in years!! Warm, Delicious, Flavorful and Filling!! I highly recommend the Berghoff Cafe!! For the COMPLAINERS, why would you order a quesadilla at a German restaurant? It's like ordering fish at a steakhouse.

Place your order and they make the omelette right in front of you. Since it was the morning I didn't have a drink but they seem to have a full bar and a lot of their own brand of IPAs. Definitely something to keep in mind if you're in the seat Gates at Chicago O'Hare airport.

I ordered off a kiosk and had to wait in a short line (probably like 2-3 minutes) for the kiosk. You can also order online from the ORD website. Because of the kiosk ordering, I had very little interaction with the staff besides my quick pickup, but the person that I picked up from was pleasant and it seemed like they were hustling in the kitchen. There's some seating directly outside the kitchen and the main food court is across the main hallway. I grabbed one of their seats and was glad I ate there because I got to listen to their Latin music. There is a bar too (with a bartender) if you want alcoholic mixed drinks. You can also get cans and bottles on the quick service side but understandably can't order them online or from the kiosk; you have to go through a cashier. I got an avocado, eggs, & rajas torta, added pickled jalapeños ($.40 - worth it) and chose the verde side salsa. Delicious! The rajas seemed to have been cooked in salsa which made them very flavorful, and the avocado was very fresh and green. The salsa verde was also delicious, although I almost felt like I didn't need it because the sandwich was great on its own. Any sandwich with eggs and cheese I expect to be kind of greasy but this was not greasy at all. I also got a mango lime fresca. It was pretty sweet but also tart from the lime so it balanced out. It was a nice accompaniment to the sandwich. Highly recommend trying them for some legit food in ORD!
