Their miles/months since last service was inaccurate, even on items they previously did the work themselves. I asked if my account could be corrected because I accidentally got a service I wouldn't have received otherwise and I didn't want to make the same mistake in the future. I said I wished I spent the money on something else, then the employee told me to work harder and make more money to afford additional services. I didn't ask for a discount, but told him it was frustrating that I was spending extra, while also hearing other customers get 20%+ off. He responded by asking if I wanted to fill out an application for a job, that way I could get 100% off. read more

I rarely write reviews--especially with six little kids and no time--but I feel compelled after two terrible experiences at the Alameda Grease Monkey, both involving the owner. Two months ago, I stopped in because my "engine oil low" light came on after only local driving. I'd had an oil top-off at another Grease Monkey just two months earlier, so it seemed surprising. The owner interrupted me multiple times, denied I'd ever been there (because it wasn't in his system), and condescendingly blamed me for "not changing the oil often enough." When I suggested there might be a leak, he dismissed it, insisted it was my fault for not changing my oil sooner, and "highly recommended" a full oil change--which I reluctantly agreed to. Today, my mom and I went back because the same issue happened again. He treated her just as rudely, claiming it was just "how the car burns oil," and tried to upsell us on another oil change. When I asked for a simple top-off, he said he'd do it--but would charge $30 since I was 49 miles over the 3,000-mile free limit. My mom asked if he could waive the fee since he was the manager and I had just been there 2 months ago, and he corrected her that he was the owner and "couldn't." Never again. The good reviews must be from people who haven't interacted with him or questioned his so-called expertise. I'm not sure if it was sexism or just pure egotism. After decades in business, you'd expect better professionalism and basic customer service. This location gives Grease Monkey a bad name. read more

Don't take your car to Grease Monkey! I went in for an oil change and they didn't change the oil or filter. I only had 3500 miles since my last oil change. The color of the oil when I checked it after the oil change was the same brown color as before. I have changed my oil myself plenty of times, it has always came out clear on the oil stick after changing. I had the paper towel I checked it with before the change. After it was the same color. I went back down and told them what I found. The manager said he had a video and showed me a video of them under the car going through the motions. All you could see was the back of the man and couldn't see any oil coming out. The oil filter they supposedly changed was on top on this engine. They showed a guy taking it off and handing it to the man underneath. They said he was cleaning the gasket. He handed it back to the guy on top without changing the filter who reinstalled it. No new filter in sight. Another interesting thing was the manager said when I brought it in it was 1/2 quart low and they topped it off. Why would they top it off if they were going to change it. It is a very elaborate scheme to actually look kind of like there actually doing something, however the other thing that wasn't correct was the video of when they supposedly pulled the plug in the video they replaced it within a short amount of time which you still cannot see any oil draining in the video because the man is conveniently located in the way. Why isn't the camera where you can see the oil coming out. When I change oil I let it drain for at least 10 minutes. The grease monkey on 10880 W Alameda Ave in Lakewood Co. My current mechanic said my battery tested fail. I went back to the grease monkey # 32 that I bought it at and asked them when they replaced it. They said they never had. I had my mechanic replaced the battery and went home and looked up my receipts and they had lied. Called the manager he had the owner call me who said I had to go find the warranty card. TERRIBLE SALES TECHNIQUES They literally asked me like 7 different times if I want to change things and upgrade. I literally just wanted an oil change. That is it. What a terrible experience. They have seating inside. They have a series of questions that they ask you each time to make sure everything is up to date. I have a older car that i had a few problems with. Roughly idle i took it i and had it fixed,it had a hole in the throttle intake hose. It was running fine. I also had a tune up done just to be sure $450.00 It requires a inspection for tags this year,so I wanted an oil change done to be sure. Took it in to This grease money. They did something? Now won't idle at all stalling out and dying. They did something,Pulled a line loose jacked something up. $80.00 have them mess up my car. I barely made it home. Now I will have to have it towed back to my My mechanic and have him try to fix whatever they screwed up. More money!!!! intentional or not intentional accidental or not for whatever reason I'm the one who has to pay the cost because I can't prove anything. Again an older car but it was running OK don't go here. last item the owner of the company seems to be a genuinely nice guy, he actually remembered me from visiting his business one day and stopped and gave me a ride. this is not a character assessment, but I am the one who is in trouble. This is my primary means of getting to work, the grocery store, and doctors office. I live from paycheck to paycheck this is a disaster. I have been going to this place for as long as I have been here for just oil changes. They have been good to me. That is until yesterday. No problems with the service. It was the woman who got in my car and moved it. Not only did she move it but she messed with my radio- my radio was off, my dash board-my trip numbers where erased, my seat- she was about my size and the seat didn't need adjustment and a few other things that she really had no reason to touch! If you don't like your job or the people you have to help find something else! I will be going back to this place but I will not be around while she is there. Hey guys! I had my oil change at this location 08/01/2020 it was great at first, they checked everything they can work on. Until we got to my air filter which is a K&N washable air filter(normal wear and tear).I said I will just clean it when I get home to CA. While driving home, I noticed that the engine was producing more sound than usual during acceleration(sounded like it is working harder than it needs to be. Long story short we got home 08/04/2020 cleaning my truck and bout to clean the air filter when 1.) I notice a wet/ oil leak from one of the small tubes that is connected on the air intake assembly. 2.) I noticed a spot on the air filter turned dirty gold/yellow. ( air filter is now white rather than pink after cleaned) 3.) took out the air filter and saw some amount of engine oil on the intake box. Mind you I clean my air filter before and after a long trip and that engine oil was not there before. I do not recommend this business. If you do go, please watch them like a hawk! Know what to expect. Don't let them treat you like a dipstick. I get it. Car places are shady and have a reputation to try and take advantage of the the ill informed consumer. A simple oil change can turn into a laundry list of problems in under 20 min. Be informed on what you need done and stay strong unless there is a blatant obvious problem. Okay, that's out the way. Sorry for the short rant. I've been coming to grease monkey for a little over a year now to get my oil changed. I came originally due to location and convenience and enjoyed my experience. I've never felt taken advantage of but I also have a decent knowledge of cars (due to all the car problems I've faced in my life). You SHOULD expect for them to try and up sell you, that's just what car places do, but it's never felt aggressive or insistent to the point that my "no thanks" wasn't sufficient. They also have a go to line about the cleanliness of your cabin and engine air filters as well as some nuts or bolts beginning to be "rounded." I genuinely am not trying to be condescending, but I literally just heard them tell the 2 people sitting beside me the exact same thing so it feels like they're following a script. Let's summarize. Car places can be scary. Know what you need. Be firm in that. Expect some scripted requests and up selling. HOWEVER, from my experience YOU CAN TRUST THIS PLACE! Well... this stared out excellent. I was planning on giving 5 stars and while it's still fine, it slowly started to go down hill. I pulled up and they got me in right away. Which was wonderful. I think the oil change took maybe ten minutes. Perfect since I waS in a rush. Everyone was friendly so another plus. They offered snacks and drinks and the inside was clean so more pluses.. Once the oil was changed I was ready to go... but they weren't. It took another 30-45 minutes til I could leave because they couldn't figure out how to turn the oil light off on my car. So I'm still driving with it on, not a huge problem but surely annoying. So for the price, I was a bit frustrated. But again they were friendly and fast for the most part so I would go back if I couldn't get into a Toyota place. At least next time I could tell them not to worry about the light. read more

I was long overdue for an oil change. I was worried that it would take long but man was I wrong! This place is great! They have a little waiting station for the kiddos, popcorn, water and TVs letting you know when you're car will be ready. The guys there seems very in tune with the flow of tasks. They were quick, efficient, and hard working. I am so happy to have found this place. Not only did they change my oil but they even cleaned my car. I am appreciative of that because I work 3 jobs and haven't had time to clean it plus that's not what i was expecting when I got an oil change. My wife went here to have the first oil change of our new SUV @ 5000 miles. The sales associate tried strong arming her to compel her to select a full synthetic oil ($90) and stated the manufacturer mandated it. After quickly consulting with the dealership, she was advised the vehicle would gladly take regular motor oil. Ultimately, they did complete oil change as requested. read more

These guys take care of a machine with the precision of a machine. I can stop in at any time between oil changes and they will cheerfully top off low wiper fluid, brake fluid, oil, or other car fluidly stuff. No charge! Yeah, it is a chain and not totally cheap on the full Monty oil change, but I can't leave my truck someplace for two days for a frigging oil change. They are so efficient and quick, it almost isn't a pain in the oil tank to go there. I have been to others - it is worth the drive. The magazines can entertain the soccer mom or the very manly man. Cookies, coffee and sodas are available to distract and a TV is on with (hopefully) something really good such as "Who's the babies daddy Maury? I am 1300% sure he is the babies daddy!!" New flash, he ain't the babies daddy. I love that - so much better than soaps! Good place, nice guys, they take care of cars. They do not try to up sell me as much at this location as much as others. I'm usually really skeptical about going to chain auto shops, but I've received nothing but very friendly and honest (presumably) service from these guys. I usually only come here to get my routine oil changed and they will do several inspections on the vehicle, all of which pass their inspection. They will top off fluid levels for me at no additional cost. And they're pretty cheap for getting a hand car wash.... somewhere between $5-10. My latest visit here was to get my battery checked b/c my car has been struggling lately when I try to start it. They tested the battery and alternator at no fee and concluded that the alternator was fine but the battery doesn't have much life left in it and offered to replace it. I declined b/c I had purchased the battery within the past few years and should still be under manufacturer warranty. They will run all these tests on your car to try and tack on additional tasks and work that they can charge you for. This is all good and fine by me except when they charge double to triple the cost for new air filters..... My advice to anyone who needs new air filters, forgo this place, purchase your own from an auto parts supplier and take two minutes to change them out yourselves. It's as easy as changing your own windshield wipers. read more

Whoever changed my oil decided to take the surgical and cloth masks I had sitting on my back seat. Nothing else on the seat was taken so I'm assuming this was some sort of anti-mask statement. This was a breach of the trust that I placed in your company with my property. It was just plain theft, and it created a situation that could have posed a health risk to my family. These guys are heros. They saved my car from seizing after having a botched oil change where my car had leaked 2.5 quarts in six hours. And they did it right before they were supposed to close on a Saturday. This team is hard working, honest, and they do the job right the first time. They offer tire balance and rotate which I have done before in the past as they change the oil but this time after they did it I took my truck on the hwy and the whole front end was shaking violently and it was to dangerous to drive so I called the store to see if they would fix it and all I got was the owner telling me what a pain in the ass my truck is to balance and rotate and that they have to spend to much time working on it and there is nothing they can really do to fix it? If that is true then why was Les Schwab able to balance and rotate the tires perfectly an hour after I left their shop?? If you can't preform this service on my vehicle then tell me before hand and dont charge me for something you cannot do.
