My daughter's appointment was cancelled by Graystone on the morning of her appointment. They gave two options to reschedule, but when I chose both of them, they had already been booked. I then called to reschedule, and after being on hold to reschedule for 10 minutes, I just gave up and made an appointment with a different doctor's office altogether. I explained I wanted to get another opinion and that would be in FL It appeared that She was quite insulted and couldn't leave exam room quick enough. After waiting almost a month for an appointment, I went in as a new patient for prisms for my cross eye. Had a very thorough eye/ contact exam (55.00 copay) and then forwarded to the eye dr. After waiting an additional half hour. The lady came in looked at my dilated eyes. Said a speech of sleeping in contacting and proceeded to tell me I can't help you with prisms. Not the appointment you were scheduled for. I would need to come back to another or another time/day. So a scam to get me to come back to pay more co-pays. Literally paid an additional 60.00 co-pay to MD. Lira for a 3min visit to tell me she can't help me. I bet they'll charge my insurance for a full visit. I should have read the other reviews before wasting my time and money on this pony show. If they focused on what the customer requested/needed and made appointments accordingly instead of the theatrics I might not have been screwed out of an eyeglass exam. 2.5 hr visit/wait and now to find another office/dr. I also had a bad experience. When I was called for my appt the woman called the incorrect last name. When I asked her if it was mine, she was rude and sad no it was "the other name". Well, it turned out to be my name. And it's not even that hard to pronounce or read so that was weird. I attempted to make a joke to the effect of," Hey, I'm the one here for my eyes...." she would not even engage with me. Just kept trudging ahead. She pointed me to a room and told me to have a seat, and when she came back later seemed upset that I was in the chair along the wall and not in the exam chair..?...At this point I'm thinking, 'What is this ladys problem?'. She began to ask me some routine medical questions quite rudely and abruptly, and honestly she didn't really seem interested in the answers at all. At some points she seemed rather argue with me about my answers than to put down what i was actually saying. Seriously?!? She never once even bothered to look up to engage with me. Even when I made jokes! When she asked me my weight I said in a joking manner, "I really don't know and I don't want to know". She kept pressuring me to make up a number or take a guess. And I kept repeating that, I really didn't know, and I didn't want to know - I was being honest. Some of us do not know our weight and do not want to. That discussion is for my psychiatrist, not my ophthalmologist. And definitely not their assistant. I told her that her guess was as good as mine. Then she quite rudely told me to go back out in the waiting room...? So I questioned her as to whether she was sending me to the waiting room because I didn't know my weight... turns out she was!!?! Except her version was, I refused to answer the question!!!! This is simple retaliation against me, the patient who went there for help! All because I did not know my weight! Then she tried to tell me that I refused to answer the question!?! Oh no no no. I corrected her and said, I didn't know the answer. At one point I told her that her guess was as good as mine.... She tried to spin that as me telling her to guess my weight. Mind you the whole time there, somewhere in this enormous hospital size building there IS AN ACTUAL SCALE. Because she decided to have no personality, no sense of humor and lack all signs of humanity, I get told to go sit back in the waiting room...as punishment!?! I have to bear the retaliation, for her bad mood and bad manners!?!? I've since then rescheduled my appointment, but honestly, I'm hesitant to even go. I'm supposed to be getting evaluated for a possible surgical correction of my eyelids. What kind of medical office would allow this to continue and cause such distrust from their patients?? I know this is made me really reconsider where I want to go. I don't care how long somebody's been there, this is unacceptable. I'm going to try the remain open minded for my next appointment and maybe I'll take this post down.But honestly, I think people need to know. read more

I will never again go to GRAYSTONE they suck. They filed on my medical insurance instead of eye so I had to pay an 80.00 co-pay. RIP OFF the doctor gave me a prescription for glasses!!!! Nothing medical. He said I have dry eye!!! Do not sign the medical paper when you go there. It is a scam for the doctors to collect. Trying to get an appt at any of their locations is infuriating and when you do get one, the whole process takes hours and most of the staff are rude. My daughter had an appt on the books for almost a year. They just sent her notice, a few weeks before her appointment, informing her that they needed to reschedule due to the doctor not being available and the next available appointment is in 14 months. She is supposed to have yearly checkups due to her condition and needs additional support for her disability that can only be requested by her doctor. When their specialist has his assistant do the majority of work, then you know the Drs are unqualified. I've had vision issues after having secondary angular glaucoma surgery. Dr. Harris never looked at my affected eye. He let his assistant go through his surgery notes and eye exam records to give me my assessment about my vision issues. My PCP has more skill and knowledge to at least look at my eye and see the Iris color has changed and that my pupil does not dilate to any type of light. Very unprofessional and careless. Do not go the Greystone Eye Center. They only view their patients as a number. I now drive an hour to Winston Salem for my opthalmology needs. Dr. Harris is as unprofessional as they come. His licenses needs to be revoked. No one there listens to the actual patients concerns, they only review their notes. Pathetic doctors and staff read more

New patient exam. I moved my records from Morganton eye in Morganton NC. In 2013 because my friend went to Greystone and she needed a ride so we were going to make our appointments at the same. When going to Morganton eye I was diagnosed with Glaucoma and was being treated with eye drops to control my pressure. At my appointment at Greystone I was told I did not have Glaucoma. From then to 2019 I had no eye drops. In 2019 my medical DR looked at my eyes and said he thought he was seeing Glaucoma so he sent me to Morganton Eye where my pressure was 40 in one and 30's in the other. I had loss vision in my left eye only seeing shadows. I had a occulison in my right eye. And have loss some vision in it. read more

I've spoken to 5, yes 5 different people in Patient Care who truly Do Not Care. I was bullied by Dr Oursler and Need two more surgeries. I've been begging for another surgeon but "that's not Graystones policy" I need my quality of life back and Graystone Doesn't Care About Me, A Patient that Paid Our of Pocket over $7,000 to have " the top lenses" but instead I'm in tears over my lack of sight everyday. I had an appointment scheduled for a year. Showed up for the appointment and it had been cancelled with no notification of the cancellation! I had taken an hour out of my morning for nothing. I think I should be reimbursed for my time. Graystone will charge you if you don't notify them you are not coming or are 15 minutes late, which they will cancel your appointment and still charge you. Next appointment available with my dr. was a month away . The next earliest appointment was 2 weeks away with another doctor which I took. Office personnel were great and did the best they could with the situation. I am just angry that I made the time and effort to make my appointment to no avail with nothing more than I'm sorry. read more

My elderly Mom has been treated by Graystone for the past 40 years for glaucoma and detachment issues. Her original doctor retired and she has a new one now, but she is still satisfied with the treatments and services she gets here. I read some of the negative reviews here on Yelp and just want to say, by allowing the delivery of health care to be a capitalist, profit-driven endeavor, you are going to encounter these types of problems. Doctors have to see too many patients on an office visit day in order to hit their revenue targets. Insurance companies have cut their reimbursements to unreasonable levels so that they can make more money. It costs a lot to operate a clinic like this so the doctors are under a lot of revenue pressure. Cut them a little bit of slack! read more

I suffer from an auto immune disease that causes eye flare ups called Iritis. When I moved to Hickory in October of 2020, I endured the most painful eye flare up in 4 years. I went to an urgent care center and of course was told it is possibly pink eye or a corneal abrasion. I was given pink eye drops which then caused my eye flare to intensify. Being new to the area, I was at a loss as to where to go! I looked up ophthalmologist in the area and Gray Stone came up. I immediately called Gray Stone, explained my situation and was scheduled that day! I was assigned to Dr. Pascal and he has taken care of me on every eye flare since the first! He is passionate about what he does, listens, and even referred me to a Rheumy to get this under control! I have had nothing but the best experience with Grey Stone and love everything about this practice! read more

Office Experience my appointment was at 1:45pm I got there at 12:45pm which was fine but the lady at the front door was not going to let me check in until 1:26pm so I finally got checked in and than waiting another 20 minutes to go back and get my eye examed and than went back out to the waiting room again and waiting until 2:19 to get called back again to see the doctor which it didn't take long and after I got out from talking to the doctor than was sent over to the glasses area but let me tell you I was over there from 3:05 until 3:43pm and finally i got to get out of there. So my experience was very very unsatisfied. I think you need to cut down on waiting so long. The last time I was there it didn't take but and hour but this time allover I waited well over two hours. The only way I have around is through the social services and I only have and hour by the time I get until I leave. Like if my appointment is at 9:00 am I have to be done by 10:00am if I don't get out in that time frame I have to find me another way home,so please fix the necessarily problem so people aren't waiting that long. read more

I had surgery on my eyelids and eyebrow. Dr. Hargrove was great. His staff was so nice and made me feel comfortable. I was awake for the surgery. It went great. I would highly recommend Graystone Eye. To anyone near or far. We drive 50 minutes and it is well worth it. read more

Scam artists. First of all, I waited in the waiting room for over an hour. Secondly, I received a bill for $300 for an annual eye exam that should have been free. They filed under my medical insurance (which didn't pay), rather than my vision insurance because the doctor diagnosed me with "dry eyes". Who doesn't have dry eyes? When I asked if they could refile with my vision, they said no and that basically answering the doctor's questions that are related to your eyes (other than reading the letters on the board) is medical. I never even asked about dry eyes or knew I had them until the doctor told me, but because those notes were in my chart, it's medical. I've had eye exams my entire life in TX, NC, and CA (including doctors checking for things like eye disease) and have never had it filed this way where I've had to pay out of pocket. I will not be going back here. What is the point of even having vision insurance!? read more

I used Dr. Oursler to do my cataract surgery two years ago and have suffered every day since. My cornea is more round than the average and he just could not get it right. He over-corrected during the first replacement then did a second replacement and my eyes have adversely affected me every day ever since. I am constantly straining to see every and there's nothing I can do now. I would advise anyone to pay a little extra and go elsewhere. Yes, I paid for the upgraded lenses and spent over $8,000 for terrible vision that affects the quality of my life. read more

I would not recommend him to no one. I had a very bad experience with him. I noticed he just wanted me to keep coming back every two weeks and nothing being done. Eye exam was great although long and cumbersom. When I returned for my cataract surgery to the building I was instructed to come to I was told I was at wrong building. Went to correct building and was still 10 mins early and would not give me any instructions for driver except waiting in parking lot. Went to waiting room and in 10 mins and was told to come on back we are ready for you. Boy was that a joke. Layed down on a gurney, very hard, started iv and said will b with you shortly 1 1/2 hours later and several requests for a pillow for my head I was given sedation. Dr came in and proceeced. During surgery I heard him say oops, give me another one not the same kind. My wife waited in the parking lot for three hours in a hot car and the only communication she received from staff was a call that said pick him up at front door now. No one had the courtesy to say surgery was over and he is fine or even mention the oops that happened during the surgery. I was sent home with the drops and a paper with some instructions on it,but it would have been nice to have the instructions given verbally to my wife so she would have known what was expected. Next day went in for follow up and was,told the lens broke and he, the doctor, had to get a different lens to put in. When he realized I had heard the oops during surgery he became very careful in the way he completed his explanation to me. Apparently the oops caused,extra trauma to my cornea and I required an addition of more steroid eye drops and my vision is still quite fuzzy.This is not, in my opinion, a professional way to conduct business. I understand this corona virus has certainly changed the way we do doctor visits, but to have a rule that the driver must sit in your parking lot for three hours and not be allowed to leave and if they do the surgery will be canceled threat is absurd...then not to have your family informed that surgery was completed or that an oops had occurred is not a professional way to run your practice. Your practice needs to treat people with some respect and work on your customer service. You expect your patients to be respectful and courteous to you so it's a two way street. read more

The only observation I can offer from today's visit is that the staff must need a little more coffee as they are a bit on the bitchy side this morning. One staff member directs my wife to a specific area. I go to park the car, then follow the same directions, only to be chastised for attempting to follow the same path as my wife. When you schedule 0715 appointments for your surgical clients, have clear cut procedures & pre-arrival guidance available for them (& their drivers) so they're not running hither and yon prior to their procedures. Everyone at the Lenoir and Hickory offices made me feel hopeful and relaxed before during and after my cataract surgeries on both eyes. I felt no pain as a result of their work and my eyesight is already improving -- just days after the procedures. I go to see my regular eye doctor in a week or two and I fully expect my eyeglass prescription to be a lot different ("weaker" in a good way). I go to Graystone in Hickory and really like my doctor so thi# review isn't about the doctors but About the staff. A friend of mine, who lives in another country now, was coming to the states for a month long visit and needed an appointment for a recheck of the cataract surgery performed at Graystone in Hickory the last time he was in, in February. The doctor had requested he return for a check up in 6 months. I called and tried to get an appointment and explained his situation. They would not work with me on getting him in to see his doctor even though his doctor requested the Appointment. I was extremely frustrated and angry at such callus treatment of clients with special circumstances. Therefore, my friend will be leaving the states without the check up his doctor requested. On top of that, the appointment secretary was rude and very short letting me know she neither cared nor was willing to help. Her attitude came across to say she just wanted to get through as quickly as possible and did not want to help. So, I decided to post this in hopes the management of this department will change their policy and give their staff some more customer service training. read more

My husband and I have been patients of Graystone for many years and have been very satisfied with their care. It's a very busy office with many patients but organized and Doctors we saw were all knowlegeable and usually the wait time has been no more than 15 minutes. I read some of the reviews and some say they had to wait hours to see a Dr. and that may have been because a patient needed extra care and delayed other appointments. We have not experienced a delay and are quite impressed with the Drs. I had cataract surgery in July and all was on schedule and Dr. Lipscomb did a great job. The staff has always been courteous. People love to complain about every little thing and forget to be thankful for good Doctors and excellent care. A good review shows appreciation for excellent care. read more

I was referred to Graystone Eye by my optometrist due to loss of vision by a stroke. I saw Dr. Kelty who was very thorough with testing and began a "plan of action" to recover my sight. I took my daughter here for the first time today for a routine, annual eye check-up. We were there for just over 2 1/2 hours. At two hours, when we still had not seen the doctor, I told the nurse, who had done the initial exam and dilated my daughter's eyes, that we really needed to get going and she said it would be another 20 minutes. I asked her if 2 hours is a typical wait time and she said "yes, this is a very busy clinic". I would hate to have to bring my child here during a school day and have her miss half a day at school. We finally saw Dr. Betor, who seemed very competent and took the time to explain everything about her exam. Based on other eye doctors we've seen in other states, this is an excessive amount of time to have to wait when you have an appointment. read more

I had ilasik surgery on August 9 2012. My surgery was done by Dr.Oursler. I was treated with much kindness and respect. The staff was very effecient and timely. I recieved a call from the surgeon about ten hours post op. My experience was well worth the two hour drive. I would recommend this office to anyone seeking corrective eye surgery. read more
